@oldnightcrawler:
Hm you're probably right. Not much has happened in those runs, which probably says something. But I wouldn't say the same about Morrison per se. Another run I'm not really fond of, yet is very important for not just the upcoming writer, but the franchise in general. It's all relative I guess.
Even Morison I think you can get away with only reading the first half, really. You get the best and most relevant stuff all in the first half, and lots of the later stuff was either retconned or made irrelevant anyway.
Still, that first half of Morrison's run might be the most relevant X-men comics of the 00's. You could make a case for where Brubaker left off and Fraction picked up -especially if we're considering what was most relevant in more recent stuff, but for overall quality I still think the fist half of Morrison's run and Whedon and Cassaday's run are the only parts that really stood out.
And you could easily say that W&C's run wasn't especially relevant beyond being a good character sequel to Claremont and Morrison's runs. Then again, I wouldn't recommend the majority of either of their runs (even Claremont's -and his is still basically the most relevant), but I would recommend W&C's in it's entirety, so, yeah.
