The Occupy movement? Really? That's the latest bandwagon? Is that because a lot of the groups wear V masks (copyright: Big Bucks film studio...you know, the type you're protesting against, Occupy fans...) ;)
Like many of the people on here I'm disappointed that the new titles didn't get a chance to shine. In a world where half of the comics seem to be Bat or Supes related (yes I'm tweaking that up a little, yes they sell) it's disappointing that other comics are not given a chance. I like Sword and Sorcery, especially the Beowulf back-up story and I was interested in where they would take Stalker. And I'd just started to get into T7, what with them usining Eclipso and the hints that people like Majestic and Spartan are going to appear (two characters I'm curious about in the New 52 world.
I remember reading of the main Comicvine people suggesting that we should have another Bat title to explain what had happened in the New 52 past rather than 'rebooting obscure characters'. I remember hating that idea but that's still better than this. I'm pre-judging, and hats off if it's great, but I doubt it will be.
I guess that's why Marvel have started to draw me back. Sure they may have event, after event, after event (wait, not after, almost at the same time as!). New 52 still has a lot going for it but, just lately, its gone a bit off the boil for me.
@IronAngelX Hardly the first time a gay man has 'played straight'. Rupert Everett has played romantic leads for years and is openly gay. Or even in comic book/sci-fi films - Alan Cumming is bi-sexual, currently living with his male partner, but played Nightcrawler. If you go back to the likes of Rock Hudson then you have a leading romantic lead who was gay but not open. These days, more people feel they can be open (a V V good thing) but there are still examples both way. :)
Super_SoldierXII I've nothing against being entertained. I just prefer to be treated with a little intelligence. For me Marvel are not doing that. They promo event after event, not waiting for the last one to finish, before ploughing straight in. That would be fine if what they then produced was any good. I tried AvX. I nearly gave up after the depiction of two of Marvel's best leaders - Capt and Cyke - suddenly heading back to schoolyard mentality just to justify a big fight between the two teams. I carried on and it didn't get any better.
You're right about the variety. I've now switched that hard earned 'mula' into other comics. If I like a title (as with Aquaman and Elric: The Balance Lost) I'll stick with it. And I'm sure they'll be people who think those titles suck. But I also don't think it's abll about people being neagtive for the sake of it. Some of it, sure. But some of it is just what it is - calling Marvel on their constant back-to-back, low quality events.
I actually don't mind the costume so much. I'm finding it a bit hard to get excited about it, though, as the idea of a man trained as an assassin who goes his own path and has links to the Bat has been done before...Hello, Azrael! I'd have much preferred a New 52 take on the latter to Talon.
Knowing Marvel, the new character will be a new version of Wolverine! Isn't it the law there that he has to appear in every other comic? ;) More seriously it'll be interesting to see who they have, although I can't shake the feeling that there are already too many heroes in the Marvel world.
Like the sound of Sword of Sorcery book. Talon does seem something of a waste when you could have had Azrael in there (personally I would like to have Jean Paul Valley back but hey that's me). Personally I would have liked to have seen some of these get the nod instead of Batman Inc. DC didn't need another Bat-title for any other reason than grab more Bat-dollars (in the same way Marvel flog Wolverine to death...).
So the rather 'obvious' curve ball of it not being Hope is revealed to be five instead of one. I guess that makes as much sense as the rest of the books...;) I do like the 'Phoenix armour' but I agree with the person who said Cyke looks like Nightwing! As for the X-men coming across as villians...it was bound to happen when they are up against Marvel's beloved Avengers! Plus I'm not sure if mentioning the spiler below is really needed when you have a picture of the cover alongside it! ;) If it's supposed to be a shock why have them all in Phoenix glory on the cover?!?!
I agree on the timing part. I think it's great that Northstar is getting married and I also agree on the point that it's natural progression. I think some people will have an issue with it but that's their problem. But I also agree that people will be cynical about the timing. Especially as it's Marvel and their current attitude of doing anything to get readers (hello A v X!).
On who it was going to be everybody in the world said it would be Northstar it's not like it's a big reveal. Also have to say I really dislike the art on this. It makes Northstar look just plain ugly and the guys a looker!
