I work at a comic book store in northern Utah. This is actually a really big market for comics, and as far as I can tell our sales pretty much match up with these charts. Marvel dominates every month, and not just the Star Wars stuff (although that stuff sells like crazy). People are eating up all the new Marvel stuff. It's kinda weird. Online people seem to really be mostly dissatisfied with Marvel's direction, how they renumber, and revamp, and all that jazz, but it's not reflected at all in how people react face to face or when walking into our shop. The amount of positive feedback we've gotten for Secret Wars and Marvel's soft reset is staggering. And people keep coming in to buy that stuff.
I kinda hope that DC decides to return to some less used characters to try to boost sales. I would love to see more Animal Man, Stargirl/Starman, and Shazam.
Did everyone forget that all these number 1 issues are coming out eight months post Secret Wars, and that the destruction and reconstruction of all the marvel universes makes everything fair game? Tons of characters are gonna be back from the dead these next few months, and tons are going to be missing. People need to realize that while these stories are continuations of previous stories the status quo of the world is completely changed, which includes who is alive and dead.
Haters are gonna hate, but this looks like it may be the best or second best title out of all the new Marvel #1s. Mahmud Asrar does such awesome art, and these characters are much more interesting then a lot of our recent Avengers rosters. Really happy they are sticking with Jane and Sam as Thor and Cap.
