You cool kids probably never heard of it (or me for that matter) but a decade ago I wrote "Whatever happened to the last nighthunter?" on this site.
It was a love letter to both my Nighthunter character and the rpg side of the vine. It was the biggest and most innovative thing I did here and by far the best thing I have ever written.
I just re-read it and got both excited again and proud of the fact that most of the big names of the vine at the time gave me authorization to write their characters.
I didn´t know it at the time but it was my goodbye to writing on the site and I couldn´t think of a better way to say goodbye
I like to think we're all better than that now, but just to say, vets and big names aren't exempt.
That´s why I´m saying that the majority (both big and not so big names) voted for the most part to people who deserved it. Looking at the generations (at least until the names I know) I find it hard to discard any name due to the impact that they did at the time.
I may have not voted exactly the same way as people when the voting happened, but I don´t think it´s fair to say that people on the HOF don´t deserve to be there.
I think everyone in the HOF deserves to be there? Yes. I think there are a lot of people who also probably deserve it but didn´t make the cut? Also true. It´s a democracy based induction so it isn´t perfect but it is still a good shoutout to people who made an impact on the vine at the time.
A problem with the HOF has and always will be people voting in their friends, their favorite RP'ers or people they like and admire, none of whom are actually deserving of HOF nominations because they don't fit the criteria of someone who had a resounding impact on the forum, on the way we RP, being responsible for a historically memorable run with a character, introducing canon-defining storylines and so on.
While that is a fair point and one that is to some degree true for all of the generations, and keep in mind I haven´t been here for years so I´m probably speaking of a vine that doesn´t even exist anymore, but I think that for the most part even with friend bias the majority of the votes go to the big players who did all those things you mention.
Again maybe I´m just talking from my experience in something that doesn´t apply anymore.
