Legacy is often forgotten, though occasionally the fictional monikers and mantles bequeathed across generations will persevere - father to son, mother to daughter - maintaining the heroic memory of childhood, introducing the expansive fictional playground of the DC Universe to a newer, younger brood. Rebirth eloquently re-frames DC's older heroes to their gleaming golden days of glory to tell fresh epochs of heroism and justice, this same device, if Titans: Rebirth is any indication, will be used to integrate, or re-integrate, teenage superheroes into the limelight of the DC Universe. Thus, list your favorite young heroes! Describe their abilities and what you believe makes them a compelling character. Do they have potential to graduate from "sidekick" and become a hero in their own right? Let's try to make a comprehensive list of teen DC superheroes! Have Fun.

Parameters :

  • Age Limit is 20 and below.
  • The 'Titans' count since their ages change every few years anyway.
  • Young Superman [Golden Age Superboy], Batman, and Wonder Woman do not count.
  • Adult characters who are transformed into teenagers for a story-line or run do not count.
  • If you're using a Robin describe which one.
  • Try not to just use Robin and Wally :D
  • Feel free to post story arcs you'd like to do with your favorite teen character if given a chance!

@HeavenTear: In DC Universe: Rebirth #1 the returned Wally West states that when the timeline was reforming after Barry Allen fixed the Flashpoint created by his attempt to save Nora Allen, some unknown force, implied to be Doctor Manhattan and the Watchmen, removed 10 years from the DC Universe. This seemingly occurs off-panel, during the double page spread in Flashpoint #5 [2011] where Pandora restructures reality, merging three separate universes in the multiverse, DC, Wildstorm, and Vertigo into one, thus creating the New 52 universe. In this timeline, superheroes have been publicly active for roughly 5 years. The heroes of the DC Universe are unaware that any of these events have occurred until Wally West informs Barry Allen. In total, superheroes have been active for 15 years in the DC Universe, though they only remember 5 of those years. In this timeline there exists two Supermen. The Superman native to the New 52 timeline is younger, more brash, and was recently killed by a confluence of events which involved fighting the Kryptonian Sun-God Rao, absorbing solar radiation from the fire-pits of Apokolips, and being poisoned by kryptonite in an attempt to regain his lost powers. The second Superman is in fact the Clark Kent from the Pre-Flashpoint DC Universe who is older, wiser, and more experienced. During the Convergence event, a God-like version of Brainiac abducted various cities from across various timelines and universes within the DC multiverse and forced them to fight. During Convergence #8 [2015] they defeat this Brainiac, however, Pre-Flashpoint Superman, Crisis Supergirl, Zero-hour Parallax, and a few others must return to the past and prevent the Crisis on Infinite Earths in order to return all the cities to their proper timelines. After the heroes save the multiverse, Pre-Flashpoint Superman, Lois Lane, and their son, Jon, arrive in the New 52 universe believing it be a parallel reality with their home universe destroyed. However, it appears that the New 52 universe is simply their universe with 10 years missing from its timeline and not an altogether new reality. I hope this helps, I understand it may be a mite convoluted.

Since you have to choose, I'd go with Titans simply for the fact that it continues the 'Rebirth' story-line, though if you didn't read Titans Hunt you'll likely be a mite confused. Whereas I'm assuming Teen Titans will serve as an easier jumping-on point since it will be an entirely new creative team working with fresh characters who, besides Starfire and Damien, have all had very little exposure during the New 52 or DC You, so you'll end up doing less catching up.

Initially, I wasn't wholeheartedly sold on the concept of Damien as the leader of the Teen Titans either, however, after reading Benjamin Percy's work in Green Arrow Rebirth #1 I'm much more excited than apprehensive. From reading just his GA work, Percy seems to have a knack for appropriately balancing story and character, a trait that was sorely missing from either volume of Teen Titans published during the New 52. So, personally, I'd rather see a well written team with Damien in the lead than a poorly written team sporting Tim. I'm guessing that Teen Titans Rebirth will take Damien on an emotional journey many people, including myself, have felt he's needed since his introduction. Hopefully we'll get to see more of his tender side, and see him slowly abandon some of that arrogant swagger that's comes with being the son of Batman. I do, however, take issue with the de-aging of Raven and Beast Boy. Though I understand why Raven is in a different 'Legacy Cluster' than Starfire since she was introduced later, as far as meta-continuity is concerned, but she and Gar look about 14 which in my opinion is way too young. Wally's de-aging doesn't seem too drastic though, I figured he was 16 or 17 so taking him down to what looks like 15 doesn't seem so harsh. But Raven and Beast Boy were at least 18 or 19 in the New 52.

I actually love Idea of retaining the monikers 'Superboy' and 'Robin', it's fitting since now both Bruce and Clark have in-continuity children. Who better to take up the mantle!

@dernman: Why aren't you fond of the pair in-continuity, just wondering?

I'm super interested to know too. She was the catalyst for the creation of the New 52, you'd think they would expand on her current exploits a little more. I know that at the end of Trinity of Sin #6 Pandora and The Phantom Stranger are free of darkness (whatever that means) as the Question has taken it all into himself.

So, I believe it's fair to assume that a large majority of DC readers agree that the New 52 version of Superboy was treated unfairly. Few characters can survive being bounced around from title to title, while being plagued with inconsistent characterization, privy to every crossover yet playing a crucial role in none, not to mention his frankly, convoluted origin. However, with all these flaws I still love the character. So going into DC Rebirth it's become clear that Jon White/Kent will be assuming the Superboy legacy and fighting alongside his father, the Pre-Flashpoint Superman. The last apperance of Kon-El was in Teen Titans #12, an awkward mess of an issue where he willingly returns to Harvest's side. My question is: Whatever Happened to the Superboy of Yesterday? Will he simply be forgotten by DC or do you believe they will the write him out of continuity with Rebirth?

@abdullahzubair: Honestly, no one knows. I just ignore Future's End and pretend like it didn't happen because it serves no purpose. The Batman Beyond comic is really the only trace of that awful storyline left. I still don't really understand why it tied into Convergence beyond Brainiac taking Metropolis. Earth 2: World's End was a better lead-in to Convergence but even that isn't really that incredible. To answer "2", Darkseid invaded and it blew up and the refugees flee to Prime Earth, DC's "main" continuity. But for most of it my answer is: I don't know, I don't think the writers knew, and you shouldn't hurt yourself thinking about a poorly written story with terrible characterization and absolutely no point. :) Cheers!

Hello! So, I realize that is a loaded question, but it is essentially the bare bones of what I'm asking. Why do DC fans dislike initiatives like DC You and, in a grander scope, the New 52? These operations serve as DC's attempts to cater to its fanbase and ultimately profit. I understand being unhappy with the delays and all of the technical problems, but what about the initiatives specifically do fans find deplorable? Does the fault lie in the storylines, lack of creativity, characterization, excess of creativity, lack of emotional depth or too much emotional depth? Is it simply because characters like Superman aren't being written with their Golden Age ideals intact? Shouldn't characters reflect the societies that produce them? Using that logic morally ambiguous heroes are the product of the increasing tumult of the 21st century and thus necessary in creating a believable three dimensional world. Is attempting to make a comic about a teenager cater to the social media obsessed generation by adding aspects that they can better relate to like Twitter and Facebook such a bad thing? The ideals of family and friendship simply don't GENERALLY resonate as strongly with that generation, as a whole it usually has a greater stake in the digital and the superficial. I'm trying to play devil's advocate with most of these examples. But to my point: is the hate that comes with these relaunches simply a product of the anger and betrayal of a generation who've in a sense 'lost their heroes', or is it an honest abhorrence at the smothering of the creative potential of such iconic characters?

So the solicit for Teen Titans #9 is out:

No Caption Provided

TEEN TITANS #9

Written by WILL PFEIFER

Art by KENNETH ROCAFORT

Cover by BENGAL

THE JOKER Variant cover by SCOTT McDANIEL

On sale JUNE 24 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

On the run with Superboy, the Titans must uncover the truth behind the Boy of Steel’s crimes, or they all might end up serving time with their former teammate.

So thoughts? Who is the White Martian looking girl? Miss Martian? Is Bart really back or is this just a cover gimmick. What do you think about the addition of Klarion? (Personally I liked the 'Futures End' suited-up version) What about Kon's new costume? Is it better/worse/meh? Is Kon just following Superman's lead? What about the new symbol? I think it looks pretty sick!
