The Wolverine page says that Wolverine's 1st Appearance is The Incredible Hulk #181 even though the article itself mentions that he first shows up in The Incredible Hulk #180, and it even has an image of Wolverine's one-panel appearance from  The Incredible Hulk #180. He even has speaking role. And yet, when I tried to edit it, the submission was rejected. Why?  I was under the impression even a one-panel appearance counts as an appearance.

The Marvel Encyclopedia published in 2009 says it's  #180. The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Vol. 13 published in 2010 also says it's #180. So why does Comic Vine refuse to acknowledge this? Black Bolt first appeared in one panel in Fantastic Four #45 and Comic Vine accepts this. Galactus first appeared in one panel in  Fantastic Four #48 and Comic Vine accepts this. How is Wolverine's first appearance any different?

Yes, it's a comic book website, but it's also the only website to have a character database including characters from many different fictional universes with 1st Appearance information for every character. It's interesting to know when a character first appeared, so that characters can be ranked according to age. Movies are already in the database, so what's wrong with a movie being a 1st Appearance?

Then there's characters who appear in a comic book movie but don't appear in an actual comic book like General Hager from Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe lists X-23's first appearance as NYX #3, despite its attention to detail in most other areas.

However, I don't think novels should ever be counted as 1st Appearances. They don't have any pictures (except on the cover sometimes) so it can't really be called an appearance. How can you distinguish between a character who "appears" in a novel and a character who is only "mentioned" in a novel? And if you include novels, where do you stop? What is Jesus Christ's first appearance? Is it William Tyndale's English translation of The New Testament, first printed in 1526? Is it the Latin edition of The Bible, first printed in 1455 (the first printed book in the world)? Is it John Wycliffe's Middle English translation of The New Testament, first hand-written in 1380? Is it the Codex Sinaiticus, a Greek Bible hand-written in the middle of the 4th century? Or is it Papyrus #66, one of the oldest surviving Bible fragments to include a near-complete Gospel, written in 200 AD?

Comic Vine includes movies in its database, as long as those movies have at least one comic book character. So why is it that a character's 1st Appearance can only be a comic, even when the character actually first appeared in a movie released decades before the comic? I'm thinking of Edgar Frog who first appeared in the movie The Lost Boys (1987), but only appeared in comics in Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs #1 (2008).

Should Comic Vine's editing processes be changed to allow movies to be listed as 1st Appearances?

The script for the first issue of 30 Days of Night is in the first edition of the 30 Days of Night trade paperback.

The script for the first issue of Star Trek Klingons: Blood Will Tell is in the Star Trek Klingons: Blood Will Tell trade paperback.

Several of the Absolute Editions have partial or full scripts, including:
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume I
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume II
Absolute Sandman 1
Absolute Sandman 2
Absolute Green Lantern Rebirth
Absolute Watchmen

The Comic Book Script Archive has around 70 comics scripts.

Are there any other websites or trade paperbacks that have comic scripts?

Why was my thread transferred to the Superman board? It's about Zatara's first appearance.

The Superman Chronicles and Batman Chronicles series of TPBs collect the earliest Superman and Batman comics in chronological order (publishing order). Can anyone who owns these TPBs tell me what this order is?

I want to know the chronological order of Superman and Batman stories, but it's hard to figure out when both characters appeared in 3-4 different series in the same year and some of the comics have a cover date of "Spring" or "Summer" without mentioning the month.

Also, what are the main differences between the Chronicles series and the Archives series? Why is the Archives series so much more expensive? Which one is better to collect?

Action Comics #1 has been collected several times including:
The Superman Chronicles vol. 1 TPB
Superman in the Forties TPB
Superman: The Action Comics Archives vol. 1 HC

Do any of these collections include the Zatara story from Action Comics #1, or do they just have the Superman story?
If they don't, does anyone know which reprints of Action Comics #1 include the full comic?

I'm trying to make a list of DC and Marvel characters in the order of their first comic appearance. But there's a problem. The publication date of Batman #1 is written as Spring 1940 and the publication date of Superman #1 is written as Summer 1939 in most places including printed books like The DC Comics Encyclopedia. Comic Vine, on the other hand claims that Batman #1 was published on April 7 1940 and Superman #1 was published on June 1 1939.

Is there a reliable source for these specific dates?

Anyway, I found what I was looking for myself. Batman: Secret Files and Origins #1 (1997) gives Nightwing's name as Richard (Dick) John Grayson.

Thanks for your help guys.
