Kulan Gath first appeared in Marvel's Conan the Barbarian series so I'm not sure if he's a Conan character or a Marvel character. He later went on to appear in Uncanny X-Men #189-191 (1985), Avengers #38-30 (2000) and Exiles #55-57 (2005), implying that he's a Marvel character. However, starting with 2006, Kulan Gath became part of Dynamite Entertainment's Red Sonja series, suggesting that Marvel either never had ownership of him or decided to give him up for some reason.

So should the Crossover concept be added to his appearances in the Marvel Universe?

There are several Amalgam characters (for example Supermutant) whose Real Names or Super Names were never mentioned in the comics but they have Real Names and Super Names on Comic Vine. As far as I can tell, these names were just made up. Should these pages be deleted or renamed or are we happy to keep calling them by their unofficial names?

Thanks to crossovers, it’s possible to connect characters from many different franchises including DC Universe, Marvel Universe, Star Trek, Star Wars, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Buffy, Street Fighter, Mario, Zelda, Conan the Barbarian, Tarzan and many others.

So I’ve always wanted to start a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon type of game for fictional characters, instead of actors. But I’ve run into a problem.

Characters are more ambiguous than actors and it can be hard decide exactly where one character ends and another begins. For example, Elphaba Thropp, Evilenne, Lynessa, Old Snarl-Spats, Theodora, West and Zelena are all separate characters and yet they are all The Wicked Witch of the West. In some stories the Wicked Witch isn’t named at all, so how do we decide that this counts as an appearance for Elphaba or an appearance for Theodora or one of the others? There are lots of characters where such ambiguity exists.

One option is that the version that appears in the newest story is the default version. In this example, the default version is Zelena who is currently appearing in Once Upon A Time Season 6.

Another option is that the version that appears in the most popular story is the default version. Popularity is measured by the number of Amazon.com reviews that a story has. In this example, the default version is Theodora since the movie Oz the Great and Powerful has 2,929 reviews (more than the other stories).

Another option is that I decide myself which version is the default version based on what I like more.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

The New Testament is a continuation of the Old Testament, not a crossover.

Old testament/New testament bible crossover.

Actually probably ancient African, Egyptian, Sumerian mythologies really.

The Bible may have borrowed some elements from other religions, but not actual characters names.

I didn't know there were any Greek stories before The Iliad and The Odyssey. What are they called?

Check wikipedia on, mostly any of the main characters... go on from there

I did check Wikipedia. The article about Greek mythology says Among the earliest literary sources are Homer's two epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey. It doesn't mention anything preceding them. I also checked the articles for Achilles, Odysseus and Heracles, but I didn't find anything.

I've been trying to post a thread in the General Discussion forum about identity retcons, but each time, I get an error message. Sometimes, when I look at the General Discussion board, there are five duplicates of my thread (most of them are broken links) and sometimes when I look at it, they're all gone.

I'm also having problems with the thread What is the first fictional crossover? that I did manage to post. Sometimes there are 3 replies and sometimes there's only 1. What's going on?

UPDATE: The duplicate threads are now gone, but the crossover thread still shows there are only 2 posts when there are actually 5.
