@navajaz: Bleh. Ordinarily, I'd choose any cinematic character over cheese syndicated, poorly choreographed Arrow lady combatants (except Ra'as' non-Talia daughter), but I can't endorse any character played by Anne Hathaway winning a fight. Even if Thea was full of Ambien, I suspect she would kick faux-Catwoman's arse back to pitiful romantic comedy-land.
I recently started to work in an American middle school with an armed police presence--a single, veteran officer. His presence has been sufficient to alleviate extreme violence since he began working there, several years ago. However, I live in southwest Missouri, and while shootings have occurred in almost every state, the other proactive measures that the school has taken to alleviate student stress and identify and help students with potentially explosive dysfunctional behavior have been as effective as the armed police officer.
I do think that private security guards should not be authorized to carry firearms in school. Police officers, however, are a different story because: 1) they have training that most rent-a-cops lack, including not only in the use of the handgun, but when it is appropriate to draw, 2) the badge and radio are as effective as the sidearm; the revolver is just part of the uniform, and 3) teenagers and preteens have marginally more respect for a cop than a private security guard, but that margin can make all the difference.
