Oh ya, I do remember Selina having a son and that someone threatened to kill him unless Selina offered her services. Too bad the DC reboot wiped most of that history off.
Yup, very good question indeed. As far as I can remember, the heroes or villains only get infected with fictional viruses like Legacy virus but never anything down to earth like STD or flesh eating bacteria. Would be interesting to see Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark deal with gonorea or syphlis on top of fighting supervillians.
A lot of alien stories these days seem revolve around their need for our water. I'm guessing Battleship 2012 is about them wanting all our oceans and rivers and the humans need to protect our resources.
