Mister Morgue
Derick Vein was originally born back in the 1800 the son of a wealthy Southern American land owner. As he grew in age he was educated in the ways of man by the finest of teachers money could buy. His every whim was indulged as his father refused him nothing. As many men in the day, he was constantly tutored in the art of the pistol and sword, both of which he excelled at. The only act he was ever questioned about was his fondness to interact with the slaves. One in particular was his house nanny whom he affectionately referred to as "Nanny Bula"
Bula was the one person he could talk to about anything. Although she was a slave she was looked upon as an actual family member. She was also highly respected among her other workers. Her sole job was to take care of Derick to the best of her abilities and that was a job she would not fail at. You see Bula was more than just a slave, among her people she was a high Voodoo Priestess with many special talents and for her own reasons she wished the best for her friend.
But both of their lives would change forever one dark night. Around the time of Derick's thirtiest birthday, the Vein family was visited by an unholy of beast, a Vampire. One by one the blood sucker went through the house killing off all the landowners until final reaching Derick's room. Unaware of this Derick was asleep when the Vampire began feasting, but before he could finish the job Bula charged in and with a spell she cast away the unclean intruder. Derick awoke just in time to see the beast exit his room and saw an image he would remember for the rest of his existence. The Vampire had one distinct characteristic, one of his fangs was made of pure gold.
As the Vampire ran off into the night Derick thrashed around in is bed suffering from the venom now coursing through his veins. Bula knew full well that if Derick survived the night he would be cursed to live as one of the Undead. For the rest of the night she sat by his bed repeating a mystic chant hoping it would give protection to his soul.
It wasn't until next the morning when Derick arose that she would see the effect of her spell. He was indeed a Vampire and one without a soul, however he had a sparkling of humanity left in his eye. It wasn't much but it was something she could work with. For the next few months Bula used her friendship with Derick as starting point to rebuild his morals. As he learned the differences of right and wrong he was rewarded with treats such as a spell allowing him to walk in the sun. Eventually she got through to him. Unfortunately the fact was he was a beast, one that needed human blood to live, but he was also a man who respected the sanctity of life. Together they could try to contain the beast within him for as long as they possibly could.
