Figured you comic fanboys and fangirls might be interested in this:

Yes it's open to anyone worldwide and you can even use social network blogs like MySpace (or say, Comic Vine's!) to post your entry.

Good luck!

ComicBookMarks site

Man, I haven't logged in here in a loooong time. Bleh on me. So first the comic news... I'm playing catch-up on lots of comics. I just read the first 2 trades of Brian K. Vaughan's EX MACHINA. I'd heard good things about it, and for good reason. It's definitely not your typical superhero book. It's actually more of a political book, but don't let that scare you. I'm far from a politics fan myself, but this series is fascinated, unpredictable and downright fun. I'm hooked.

Second, I've finally breathed new life into an old comics site I had. It used to be heavy database stuff with php code and whatnot that your average computer user like me couldn't update super easily. Well, I've since converted the entire site to a blog style, and now it is insanely easy for me to keep it up to date. Woo. So free plug time:

ComicBookMarks.com is the site. The main part of it is a directory of Official websites of comic professionals (writers, artists, publishers, organizations, etc.) I'm not including fan sites or Web comics at all. And while I have a news & reviews page, I haven't quite figured out how to fit sites like ComicVine into there. Yes, there's News & Reviews on here, so it'd fit there. But it's also more of a wiki, so maybe I can create a wiki-resource type page (which would then be the only real fan type pages I had). Anyways, I'm always looking for new sites for your favorite comic professionals, so if you know of any, please let me know!

Be Seeing You,

Andrew

Father's Day Gift Ideas

Don't know how many dads are on this site, but if so, chances are you're a younger dad whose not really looking to get a tie or new belt for Father's Day. If you are a father of the younger variety (or an older dad who still loves to geek out), then check out this article on Father's Day Gifts for Young Dads. I know I'd be pretty psyched to get just about anything on that list.

300 the movie

Finally heading out tonight. Been way too long since I actually got out. And thankfully there's a decent movie playing! So yep, I'm seeing "300" tonight with a buddy of mine. I loved the comic when I came out, though I barely remember it. Hope the film's nearly as good.

I'll post a review tomorrow!

Hah. And I found the entire comic series in video format. :)

Wolverine's Brother

So I was playing superheroes with my 4-year-old son, digging through a bin of my old action figures. I found my favorite classic Toy Biz Wolverine figure in the classic yellow and blue outfit. I showed him Wolverine, and then he grabbed a Secret Wars Wolverine figure. I said, "Who's that?" He responded with, "It's Wolverine." I told him good job figuring it out, even though the costume was different. To which he replied. "Oh. It's Wolverine's BROTHER. Farfel."

So there you have it. Scoop right here! Wolverine has a brother. And his name is Farfel.

Up Up and Oy Vey!

Jews and comic books! While there aren't too many Jewish superheroes (Sabra, Moon Knight, Magneto, Kitty Pryde... uh, the Thing), there are apparently an insane amount of comic book creators who are Jewish.

According to this article , Rabbi Simcha Weinstein who teaches at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, said that discrimination in the 1930s kept many Jews from joining industries such as advertising. Which meant they ended up working in comic books.

Weinstein was speaking recently at a community college to push his new book "Up, Up, and Oy Vey! How Jewish History, Culture and Values Shaped the Comic Book Superhero."

I always knew Superman creators Siegel and Shuster were Jewish, but never knew that the name Kal-El actually has biblical significance. In Hebrew, Weinstein said, it means "the voice of God."

Who wants to buy me this?

I can't believe Star Wars collector insanity has now hit the LEGO world. I mean, I know they've made a ton of Star Wars LEGOs and a lot of them are high-priced. But this is insanity!!!

Ultimate Millennium Falcon

Feel free to buy me 1. Or 2. Or 3...

Ebay comic lot #1: Captain America!

Okay, so I started the beginning of the end of selling my collection. Figured I'd start with my biggest bunch, Captain America. I've got every issue of the first volume (#100-#455 or whatever that last Mark Waid issue is). I'm keeping select runs but except for 6 issues I can't seem to find, I'm putting up issues #290 through #442).

Figured I might as well promote it here since you guys are comic fans after all. :)

Anyways, here's the link:

Captain America #290-#442
