A former nuclear physicist and atomic researcher, Otto Octavius' life changed forever when one of his experiments went horribly wrong. From that day forward, he has set out to prove his superior intellect in a number of ways, but these plans are usually thwarted by Spider-Man.

  • Alistair Smythe is the son of Spencer Smythe: a mad scientist responsible for the creation of Spider-Slayers; robots designed to hunt and kill Spider-man. After his death Alistair carried on his work.

  • Darla Deering was a trendy socialite who after a romantic encounter with Johnny Storm, wound up as a substitute member of the Fantastic Four. Now as a member of the team, she wears a suit previously used by the Thing when he was de-powered which grants her superhuman strength.

As Oscar was not seen afterwards, he can be presumed among the casualties.

  • Overdrive is a villain who uses nano-bacteria to alter motor vehicles to his liking. Formerly working for Mr. Negative, he is now a member of the Sinister Six.

  • After refusing the Owl's partnership offer, the two clashed over possession of a nuclear device in what was called the 'Owl/Octopus War'. The conflict ended after Doctor Octopus nearly killed the Owl in a violent attack. Later, as the 'Superior Spider-Man', he broke up a fight between Owlsley and third White Dragon, then subdued them.
