Martial Artists of Recognition

I enjoy seeing them fight, displaying skills, speed, precision, fighting knowledge, tenacity, experience and creativity in the art of unarmed combat. This isn't a list of who's a better fighter than who, only those who I find the most entertaining the watch to my expectation at the time whether the scenes give a good laugh or are downright serious.

Honorable mentions to Kung Fu Hustle which couldn't be found on the lists. There are several actors that can't too such as Yip Man.

List items

  • The finest real human specimen ever produced. Bruce is the epitome of the word "master" a combination of high level mastery and peak human condition. The true definition of unbelievable, especially when you see him in actual combat. A real-life Goku, training each and every single day, perfecting himself to a point such that not even live action TV or movie CGI can keep up with such speed and precision. I'm dead serious. The guy even plays ping-pong with nunchucks with incredible displays of skill and accuracy. Bruce Lee is truly a legend that he is.

  • Being a huge fanboy of kung fu, Po has shown more dedication and commitment to the art of unarmed combat than most other martial artists having quickly excelled to a near master level within a few days. He easily stands out among his peers and cleverly uses his environment to his own advantage plus a few neat party tricks up his sleeve. Po's sense of humor provides a comical relief few martial artists can ever match.

  • Most people think he's nothing more than a stunt artist, though that may be true, Jackie Chan's fighting style has to been some of the most creative and most hilarious ever. He makes good use of his environment in which unsuspecting opponents get made a mess out of. Also he's a funny nice guy too.

  • Though I personally am not really a follower of DBZ, I've seen some amazing fight scenes that really go off the charts. Most martial artists are thought of as street level, which makes Goku extra special because he's superhuman. He has been training all his life, absolutely dedicated to constantly improving himself, beating tougher opponents, learning under new masters and so on. His Saiyan heritage provides him with enormous strength, ridiculously fast speeds, great stamina and added with his skill makes him one of the most powerful if not the most powerful martial artists in all existence, fiction or reality.

  • The main man of the Matrix never fails to amaze me with his fight scenes. Thanks to better stats, speed and skill he seems far too overpowered for the sheer number of opponents that must face him unless its Agent Smith.

  • Having mastered the use of a single, dual and double bladed lightsaber, Maul is one of the most highly trained Sith in the entire Star Wars history. Even without using the force or a lightsaber, Maul is a complete physical powerhouse with extreme endurance, stamina and skill at his disposal. He proved himself on a completely different level of skill to TPM Jinn and TPM Kenobi despite being at a young age. Incorporating unarmed techniques into his fighting style makes a tough opponent to encounter should one's options be limited.

  • The awesome ninja from G.I Joe has produced many enjoyable fight scenes much better than most movies. A combination of swordsmanship and unarmed combat provides a well-rounded combo entertaining to the eyes to watch. Can't wait til the next G.I Joe movie to come out.

  • It's always fun to watch Batman beat up the bad guys. While his TDKR skills were rather disappointing, elsewhere Batman has always been a top tier unarmed fighter, rarely having to use direct weapons in combat. He shows great skills in fighting especially in animation shows and video games where the action can actually be witnessed.

  • He is very unlikable to begin with. Constantly picking on Po but he later changes his ways. He may be small and old, but man is he quick and nimble on his feet considering he fights bigger opponents. Shifu successfully trained Po and while he himself couldn't beat a rogue apprentice, he had inspired Po to do the unthinkable. His limited fight scenes were pretty good too.

  • My favorite Capcom character. Similar to Goku in many ways. Dedication to martial arts, distance energy attacks and a strong spirit to never give up no matter the hardship whether it is through training or fighting a tough opponent.

  • Truly fast and amazing combatant when you get to witness his insane moves on screen. On paper it's hard to tell but if you've seen the Iron Man or Avengers animation, he's got wicked sick style.

  • Jet has always been one of my most anticipated martial artists on the big screen ever since Bruce Lee isn't around anymore. Though I sometimes compare Li to Chan, Jet is an actual accomplished martial artist who can fight for reals. He has been part of movies such as Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo must Die and countless oriental films. I don't get why he turned down a Matrix trilogy opportunity though it was his fighting choreography in Fist of Legend that inspired them.

  • Val is highly regarded as the best fighter in all comics, save for Batman 1000000 who dispatched him with ease. Nevertheless he is an incredibly talented from the 31st Century and uses martial arts for simulating superhuman feats such as slicing off limbs with a karate chop or shattering mountains despite being a peak human. His fight scenes in animation display him making short work of opponents without even trying.

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing him on the big screen, that is if it'll ever happen. If he really is the best human martial artist in Marvel, it will definitely awesome to watch him display his amazing skills and become more famous instead of being unknown. He has an interesting back story and it would be nice to bring him out of the shadows for once.

  • Another great martial artist who played his role as Snake Eyes in the G.I. Joe movies and as Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1 TPM. He too was a fan of Bruce Lee and seemed to have followed his footsteps along the way.

  • His fighting scene with Winter Soldier in his 2nd movie is one of the best I've seen of Steve Rogers. It's good to see him not rely on his shield too often at times. Credit should also go to Bucky Barnes for making his fight scene with Steve a worthwhile one to see.

  • CW Green Arrow had turned a spoiled rich Oliver Queen to one who has the fend for his life, coming back to a world that has changed since his disappearance. Though he doesn't show as much archery he does display a lot more sophisticated fighting style.

  • It really can't a list without Chuck Norris. Aside from his jokes he's a good fighter who was able to match Bruce Lee for awhile.

  • Deathstroke has always been one hell of a crazy fighter may it be in video games, animation shows, live-action and hopefully the big screen. His ability to predict his opponent's moves makes him one deadly adversary to confront.

  • The main protagonist of Berserk is just hopping mad. Very fast, very skilled and when he goes mad, you better run and hide.
