JL vs mother nature 0

What a great improvement from the Rebirth issue and a good way to start this story.Right from the start we jump right into the main story, major earthquakes happening around the globe and the League having their hands full. The premise of the JL going against an enemy they cant fight like these natural disasters was intriguing and I wish it was developed as the main plot at least one more issues before it being revealed not to be the main threat and that something more is happening as it usually...

Year one part one 0

Much much MUCH better issue than #1Just as in the first issue,we split time between Diana and Steve to learn how was their life before they met. On Trevor's side we follow him and his buddy through a brief but emotional story and in Diana's case it is a more classic story as we already know more or less how was her life as a the amazon princess: lots of study and training with lots of friends and a never ending wish to know what lies beyond. As I said at the beginning, everything is 100 times be...

It just took Hitch 1 issue to turn me off 0

Hitch gives us his first issue as writer of the main Justice League book and is a complete disappointment for both new and older readers as it fails to give us a decent story or a proper character introductionIn relation to the fisrt point, the plot is very simple and it revolves around and alien invasion from a giant squid monster that is also part machine that deploys millions of mini squids to mind control people. I believe this to be an homage to the League's first story where they fought St...

Collision course 0

What a great way to start a new series: having Batman confront a situation I've never seeing him deal with before, by doing it in a very original way and by introducing a new character we don't know if its friend or foeThis issue goes from 0 to 60 in no time when an airplane is suddenly shot down and Batman goes into action, King did a great job making the issue feel fast paced, exciting and dramatic by constantly telling us via the characters how fast was time running out, how precise Batman's ...

Remember the titans 0

Wally has returned from the Speed Force, he has spoken with Barry, now he is looking for his old teammates to warn them about the stolen time. This issue revolves around Wally trying to make the Titans remember him while they mistakenly attack him (how weird for this to happen in comic books?!). What I liked about the issue is the way Wally talks and feels about his teammates and what made them such good friends and the obligatory flashbacks did a good job conveying this friendship as well as sho...

Who's agent 37? 0

Detective Corrigan interviews 4 witnesses trying to find out the identity of the dangerous agent 37.First at bat is John Constantine telling the story of how a handsome and half naked man destroyed a family of vampires. What do vampires have to do with Spyral? who knows, the story didn't made much sense and art was sub parNext in line is Azreal and the tale of how a thief sent for a divine stone that can communicate with heaven ended saving a village. This story reminded me of the early issues o...

Good prologue to Action Comics, awful follow-up of Darkseid War 0

Lex is back on Earth and he just found out Superman is dead, what will he do? well if you read Action Comics 957 3 weeks ago you know he is the new Superman; what you will learn here are 2 things: Lex's motivation to become the new protector of Metropolis and how he got the deceased Clark's cape for his suit.Lets start with the positives. Jurgens knows how to write a good Luthor, his monologue displays Lex's characteristic coldness and ruthlessness that I like about him and then surprises us wit...

Not the best of the beginnings 0

I dont know about the other series but this issue is a direct continuation of what we saw in WW Rebirth #1 and things havent improved much. This issue is very brief and not very interesting. On one side of the story we have Wonder Woman looking for Cheetah's help in her quest for the truth while on the other side we have Steve Trevor who's also in Africa looking for a terrorist; this side-story has the obvious (and probably sole) purpose of unite Diana and Trevor in a WW comic for the first time ...

Joining the big leagues 0

We travel back in time to 6 months after the 5 years previous to the New52 starting point and follow Dick Grayson on the day he meets the Justice League and helps save the world from a crisis. This is a very fun issue. Since the beginning this is full with humor (most of the time courtesy of Flash and Green Lantern which is a joy to experience again for the first time I believe since the Flash Annual way back in 2013) and its nice to see the League's fun side even if it is for a brief moment befo...

DC Universe Rebirth 1.5 0

We follow Barry (it seems we cant no longer just say Flash) through the previous moments before Wally came back, then we are treated to an extended conversation betewen them concerning the mysterious return of Wally and its implications until moments later they take their separate ways, and finally, we get a little follow up with Batman and the smiley face buttonThis felt like a direct tie-in to the Rebirth issue and was handled very well; before reading it I thought the art looked rough but as ...

Rebirth, literal 0

Calendar Man takes the spotlight as the villain in this issue and his plan is to kill everyone in Gotham using some kind of spores that only bloom on spring and to have several chance to succeed he also constructs a machine that alters weather to follow the seasons 1 each day; seems complicated? dont worry, as Batman saving the day and frustrating Calendar Man's plant is only a tiny part of the issueInstead we focus on Duke jumping in on the proposal to be Batman's new partner and start to learn...

Truth seeker 0

As you most probably know, this issue is about the truth, the truth about Diana's origins. Through her history there have been many iterations of her origin, how she was born, how she was viewed by her sisters, how she came to the man's world and most importantly who is she? whats her role?So in this issue Diana analyses all this different and contradicting aspects of her life, trying to figure out which ones are real and which one are fake, and with the help of her lasso she discovers someone is...

A war's end 0

I would like to start saying that this issue was awesome and as the last of a 10 (more if you count the tie-ins) part storyline it did an awesome job. Since the beginning it was ambicious, it was entertaining, it was BIG, and this last issue doesn't let us down and bring us a great finish. If you are reading this review to know if this single issue is worth your money and time, or if it is a decent conclusion to a big story I would simply say YES, go read it now; but if you're more interested in...

Anger management 0

There are some cool scenes, others don't seem that important, and in the end this issue is not essential but succeeds in being entertaining and in giving you that little extra infoLuthor now possess the Omega Effect, but in order to actually control it he will have to learn from his new sidekick Ardora, as well as some flashbacks, that he needs to let go his anger and that hope may be more powerful than strengthWhat worked in this issue is that we actually see a change in Luthor (or at least an ...

According to Superman: apple pie > everything 0

We learn nothing from this issue besides that Clark likes apple pie a lot. This issue was so plain that I read it in less than 5 minutes when I usually take easy 20 min; just ignore this issue entirely.Superman is back from Apokolips and being a famous universal celebrity he arrives while beating a random alien who dared fight him and whom after his defeat, leaves a symbiotic kind of glue that consumes everything while Superman is busy eating some pie and ignoring it. Jimmy treis to convince him...

Shazam's new groove 0

Hard to follow issue for me since I dont know much about DC's new and old gods, depending on if what happened here is referenced or connected in the main story, the score could improve to 3 stars but right now I would recommend to skip itThis issue deals with Billy traveling (more like a spiritual journey or astral travel) to The Source, the place gods go when they ''die'', to fight an ancient evil god named Yuga Khan who was liberated with Drakseid's death and who has short circuited Billy's co...

God of Light 0

Deep theological aspects and science fiction combine to form a very entertaining story; maybe not essential for the main story but very recommendedWhat happens when a Darkseid's mother box searches for a new master? One as powerful as the last one? That's what Hal is dealing in this issue as he returns to Oa after Batman warned him of the parademon's attackWhat started as what I thought was YET ANOTHER story of how the GLC were destroyed completely only to come back again as if nothing happened ...

Flash vs Black Racer 0

Confusing issue and not essential for the main story, skip it while I tell you everything that occurredSo Flash just killed Darkseid and is the living embodiment of death when suddenly Flash hears his mom's voice which makes him be free from Black Racer's control for the longest millisecond ever, but what happened?Flash obviously tried to run away but fails and is transported to Central City were he sees the Racer about to kill a person and when he he thought he succeeded in stoping him, he sees...

Preventive justice 0

Good read, mostly good but not essential for the Darkseid War story and here is why:Bat-God has returned to Gotham and is using the knowledge of the chair to prevent crime. Its a simple premise that I think was executed in a good way.The story features a great conversation between Gordon and Batman dealing with the effectiveness of his new methods with Gordon claiming that Batman is fooling himself, we get to see Batman's new methods in action and there's a moment that makes you reflect whether ...

Back to square 0 0

So Wonder Woman's New 52 story comes to an end and before I start raging about all that has happened since Finch took over, lets see what happened in this issue in full detail with spoilers included:Diana is lamenting what appears to be Zola's recreation of Snow White's ''dead'' sleep but after she is reassured Zola is not dead, she wonders where is Zeke; well he was obviously kidnapped by Hecate and where else would she be but at Gaia's temple? She then proceeds to informs us that she is saving...

A trip to hell 0

A story that started so promisingly quickly started to go downhill and now, continuing with this mediocre story, we follow Wonder Woman to the Tartarus Pit in search for the hecatonchires and this issue wastes no time and we jump to Diana standing at the entrance and facing the several mind tricks the Pit uses against her in her quest to save Zeke and Olympus.Im tired of raising the score for this lackluster story because of its nice art (it is great in this one too), that why this time it only ...

Saved by the backstory 0

After a brief encounter with the cyclopes and learning that they are goodhearted creatures, Diana returns with Hecate where she tells her why Gaia wouldn't help her in the previous issue and that in order to cure Zeke and the other gods, she has to rescue the cyclopes (which she could free even thought she tried) the hecatonchires, and Typhoeus the father of all monsters. While looking for Typhoeus Diana is confronted by Ares who wants his powers back to which Diana replys that she cant comply an...

Family issues 0

Zeke is sick, neither Zola, Hera or Diana know what to do, Hera send WW to the Gaia's temple (as she is the mother of every living thing on Earth or something like that) in a desperate hail mary pass fashion; there Diana finds Hecate (goddess of witchcraft and lot of other things) whom seems to know a lot of whats happening to Zeke and tells Diana that to cure him she needs her to steal something from Hera (risking her rage and betraying someone she loves), Diana is skeptical but since she has n...

Was that it? 3

In major aspects the movie is good enough to not be a bad movie, but also failed to provide any major moment to make it a good movie and what was supposed to be the selling point of the movie (the fight) didn't stood out either. The positives:- Batman. This is by far my favorite incarnation of Batman in any movie (besides the animated ones). The beginning of the movie does a wonderful job showing why Bruce Wayne is a real hero and also succeeds in making you understand his viewpoint for the rest ...

Inside Batgirl's brain 0

With all the fuzz I recently saw concerning this issue stating to be one of the best of the current creative teams and having not read Batgirl recently but wanting to, I decided to check this issue only to find it very mediocreSo, someone is overwriting Bab's mind and the girls are trying to help; Bluebird and Spoiler are looking elsewhere for the responsible while Franki does everything in this issue and goes inside Bab's head (kind of in a Tron style or like Kitty Pride in DOFP movie) while Bl...

Cheetah's choice 0

This issue is not worth much since not much happened and the few things that could have been important are just put aside and ignored or poorly executed, as it has been the case in Meredith Finch's entire run.Instead of immerse the readers into Diana's mind to see what she thinks of the recent news of Ares or Apollo or Dona like the book appeared to do at the beginning; or instead of analyze her reaction of a discovery at the middle of the story related to Donna's murder spree of the male amazon...

Here comes Broosh Wayne 0

I dont like Superman because of his boyscout personality and optimistic attitude (how I hate those people) but what I love is a young Clark Kent trying to find his way to greatness. When I heard about this series I was intrigued by the prospect of a Smallville kinda mini-serie and wanted to wait for the tpb, but if the other issues are like this I will need to reconsider it and get them as they come out.The issue starts very rushed (expected as it is a one shot) placing Clark in a yacht full wit...

The League of Gods 1

Just like us, the League is surprised it all ended when it was barely starting and most of the time we take the role of GL imploring Batman to explains us what exactly did he find out about the Anti-monitor. As we start a new chapter of the story and one more time, this is a setup issue that uses most of its time transforming the League into gods, which looked cool but I find the way they happened questiinable...

Mayweather vs Packiao 1

Theres definitely a lot of great things happening in this issue, unfortunately, like the "fight of the century" the battle between the 2 most powerfull beings in the DC universe, for the most part, wasnt up to expectations. The good: - the 3-way battle in general - superman vs luthor - FALCON PUNCH!!! The bad: - Batman's and GL wasted adventure - Flash's sudden transformation - the lack of action between the 2 big guys...

Darkseid arrives on Earth 0

The story moves too slow right now with anothrr set up issue that only moved players from one place to anither as the Lueague separates in two teams, Batman and GL go to space to try to find out who is the Anti-monitor (the only think the Mobius chair doesnt know) while the others and Mr Miracle will try to stop him or make him leave Earth, meanwhile Superman and Luthor (still in Apokolips) fight for their lives...

Riko meets Batgirl 1

I went into this issue expecting a team-up of batgirl and my favorite new "robin" but what I got was a skipable issue trying to reflexionate on the last issue events from the prespective of Riko (which could've been great but was very bad executed) and some of the worst art I've seen (it seemed it belong in an old newspaper strips or was part of a comic of the 60's) with some horrible charcter drawings and an out of focus style. After what happened last night Riko isnt feeling well, she is bein...

Tick-tock-tick-tock 0

This was a good and thrilling issue full of nervousness, anxiety and desperation for the robins as they try to defuse some bombs at the Archives. This issue made a great job establishing the personality differences between the robins by putting them in a really stressfull situation and it was great seeing them react to it, some acted like the teens they are while some showed a more estoic or brave attitude mote in line with the symbol they try to represent (which not always is the best choice)....

The new Selina 0

I started reading this serie because I thought it would be like a tie-in to Batman Eternal (which it kind of is) and to finally read one of her series and it didnt dissappoint. This issue starts some time after Selina said she would take control of her family in BE and around the 2 weeks time period break after Hush's attack in BE; here we have a fully stablished Selina as a mafia boss of her family but that still has to prove her worthshow to the other families for them to accept her lead. ...

Dick and Clark 1

Before Dick returns to Spyral he shares an unexpected adventure with Superman and since none of them knows about the others current status cuo its funny seeing how the describe it, but the fun is interrupted when the Fist of Cain appears to collect a bounty on their heads. I dont know how Superman is depicted in the others books but here we have one with a good sense of humor and easy going attit...

The face of the enemy 1

Dick is back in town visiting Bruce while in disguise when suddenly Agent 0 attacks and she wants Grayson back and she doesnt play nice as she blackmails him to rejoin Spyral but in order to make his decision easier she allows him to tell the bat-family he is still alive. Knowing how the family feels about Batman's lies you can imagine how these reunions went, not exactly a hero's welcome, but they felt very natural and therr were some good pages with some dialogue boxes depicting the character...

Face yourself 1

This was on of the best issues of the series so far; it nicely concludes what felr a true spy story and even deepens even more the mistery. Unlike the previous issues, this one is almost pure action with Grayson fighting his doppleganger, but they trade more than punches as the verbal taunts and psychological attacks fly all over the place. The end of this fight might be something you were not expecting and may mean the end of Dick as an agent of Spyral while also planting the seeds of an intri...

After the last mission Dick is in Agent's 1 naughty list but his revenge will have to wait while he takes his next assignement. Meanwhile Grayson takes the kryptonite to his contact who happens to be Luthor. This reunion was good, not as good since I expected a more meaningfull converstation or heated debate instead of morr of Luthor's manipulation and misdirection, but still good;its als...

Dance with spies 1

This issue seems the start of a book more cemented in classic spy plots; after what happened to Mr Minos the last issue, Helena is named the head of Spyral and her first task seems to be to revisit all of Dick's previous missions looking for clues for the murderer of other spies and avoid a war with the othrer spy agencies; meanwhile agents 1 and 37 try to steal a kryptonite necklace during a ball. All of that seemed intriguing but the issue fell too short, it doesnt feel like theres a lot of m...

Kyle the meddling kid 0

This was an ok issue serving probably only as a set-up for next arc. After a funeral Kyle is worried about Olive and even more so when he sees her spending a lot of time with Tristan, but what will he think when he finds out Tristan's secret? After the arc we just finished this was a great stand alone story. With Olive somewhere else, we follow Maps as she is thinking about adding a new member to the secret club and young Damian may have impressed her, and while Maps scouts him they get involved in an old Batman's case dealing with demonic crows and magic feathers As usual, the series achieves a great balance trying to figure out if whats happens has a cientific explanation or if it really is supernatural. Also shining as usual is...
