Anyone who know me knows I am a big fan of Thanos, so naturally I was excited to hear about this series coming out.I understand this is really the only origin shown to date, but there have been many references and explanations in the past. Lots of things just don't seem to add up. Sui-San wants to murder her own child right after birth, which in the past it was always told that Thanos was never mistreated and his parents loved him. First let me say, I was worried this was going to get cancelled after the new Mark Waid Green Hornet (great first issue by the way). With the title change, it seems this might keep going since the change was probably to avoid confusion. So in this issue, Britt finally wakes up from his coma, only to arrive to help the Green Hornet 2.0 with a new group of super villains.I will say this issue seemed rushed for some reason (again, hoping it's not cancellation). I think I will begin by saying that the reason this book spurred my interest was a editors note in Avengelyne #1 (2011) that made me think I would get more back story to help me catch up (I am a big Avengelyne fan). After all, that is what those notes are for, right? Fourth Publisher's a Charm 5
As the resident Avengelyne expert, I figured I would write up a review for this book to help out new readers and maybe get some of you on board for this. I really try to be objective when I write a review, but being such a fan of the Silver Surfer may be clouding that in this issue. Where we last left off, the High Evolutionary removed the Surfer's Power Cosmic from him and he was left with bullets in his chest. Naturally, he survives in the care of Cybermancer. So one of my biggest issues with all these Green Hornet comics coming out is that it doesn't seem like the writers and editors are communicating with each other. I even made a blog about it. When you read as many superhero comics as I do, sometimes you forget to change your outlook on titles like Sweet Tooth. Although there are a few things in the story that you have to stretch your imagination with, try to read this as though it were based in reality to get the best emotional impact from the book. Let me start by saying that this is long over due. All the great character depth that was given to the Surfer his ongoing series in the 80's - late 90s was virtually erased when he returned as Galactus' herald during Annihilation. Let me just say, I love Ed Benes' art. Usually with a comic you get a beautiful cover from one artist and a different artist who actually drew the book. Not the case here. I've barely been holding on to this series. Grant Morrison is just all over the place. Some call it genius, but not me. So all these clues that they are looking for are CORNY. I love the direction, the anticipation of what's to come and the artwork but let's get on with it. This is four issues in a row with very little action and even more questions that need answering.
