Seems a Bit Off 0

Anyone who know me knows I am a big fan of Thanos, so naturally I was excited to hear about this series coming out.I understand this is really the only origin shown to date, but there have been many references and explanations in the past. Lots of things just don't seem to add up. Sui-San wants to murder her own child right after birth, which in the past it was always told that Thanos was never mistreated and his parents loved him. I did actually love the reaction of Mentor though, because that ...

Legacy 0

First let me say, I was worried this was going to get cancelled after the new Mark Waid Green Hornet (great first issue by the way). With the title change, it seems this might keep going since the change was probably to avoid confusion. So in this issue, Britt finally wakes up from his coma, only to arrive to help the Green Hornet 2.0 with a new group of super villains.I will say this issue seemed rushed for some reason (again, hoping it's not cancellation). There is a lot I have been wondering...

The Return of Britt Reid to Dynamite 8

After the end of Green Hornet Year One, we've been left with the Green Hornet legacy title, with Britt Reid's son taking the mantle. A whole new group of fresh characters in a modern setting. This new title brings us back to the original essence of the Green Hornet - a hero disguised as a villain. What's great about this book so far is the focus on Britt himself, not the Hornet persona. We see his world and his plans, as well as his allies and employees, something that was always a major focus ...

This is Why I Read Comics 0

Ever since the return of the Fantastic Four title, FF has kind of taken the back seat to the main story. So, I'm just going to let you know that if you haven't been keeping up with FF, thinking it's now the background to the Fantastic Four, go get this issue. While not action packed, it's a fun read from Valeria's perspective. There is an amazing twist at the end, bringing back a concept I was originally excited about but eventually forgot. The future has become a dangerous place. It's been a long...

Avengelyne: Devil in the Flesh Hardcover 0

Devil in the Flesh is the first volume of Image's Avengelyne relaunch, collecting issues #1-6. Written by Mark Poulton with art by Owen Gieni, it's a great start to the series bringing back many of the old favorites from Maximum Press.Beside collecting the first six issues, there are many extras included in this hardcover. It also includes all variant covers for the issues, all the Extreme Origins backups, and a good deal of extra artwork and pin-ups. Also included is a glimpse at some future ch...

Beware the Editor's Note 0

I think I will begin by saying that the reason this book spurred my interest was a editors note in Avengelyne #1 (2011) that made me think I would get more back story to help me catch up (I am a big Avengelyne fan). After all, that is what those notes are for, right? Unfortunately, the quick flashback in the book is even more descriptive than anything this book provides, therefore it seems like just a plug from the writer to go read his previous works. This book actually was not that easy to find...

Main Card: Jesus vs the Gods of Olympus 0

After reading this gem, I felt inclined to write something about it. This book opens up straight to Jesus being crucified on the cross. Then things get.... weird.Watching Jesus die, Zeus and the Gods of Olympus show up to talk smack and mock the so called 'Son of God.' Jesus pulls himself down from the cross and over the next four pages proceeds to kick the crap out of them, leading to the final confrontation with Zeus. Unfortunately for us, this is a vision that Avengelyne wakes from and we don...

Fourth Publisher's a Charm 5

As the resident Avengelyne expert, I figured I would write up a review for this book to help out new readers and maybe get some of you on board for this. I'd love to see this book go the long run and I have heard that they already have at least three years of material.Jumping OnThis issue is a pretty good jumping on point for the new reader. In the back they have a brief synopsis of who Avengelyne is and her history in a nutshell (or you can check the wiki page I made that is pretty descriptive)...

Norrin and Shalla, Sitting in a Tree 9

I really try to be objective when I write a review, but being such a fan of the Silver Surfer may be clouding that in this issue. Where we last left off, the High Evolutionary removed the Surfer's Power Cosmic from him and he was left with bullets in his chest.  Naturally, he survives in the care of Cybermancer. What I find remarkable, and the Surfer does as well, is that he has been turned back in to flesh and blood, which is impossible. The Silver Surfer has lost or had is Power Cosmic drained...

Another FF #1 Review 0

This issue marks the end of the Fantastic Four and the beginning of the Future Foundation. I've been expecting this for quite some time now. It also marks the inclusion of Spider-Man as a member of the team. Although I am not the biggest fan of Spider-Man, I've always enjoyed his interactions with the Fantastic Four.  That being said, I guess it was his interactions with Johnny that I really enjoyed. This issue sure sets the mood of the mourning of Johnny's death, so we don't get to see the full...

You?! 0

This story marks the conclusion of the Idols story arc. Without at least the last issue, you'll be a little lost. We pick up with Mulan being rushed to the hospital from her gun wound.   We get to see more of the relationship that is going to develop with Lt. Chritton. So far, the guy is one for one with keeping up his end of the deal. I'm a little curious as to why Mulan doesn't have any bulletproof garments like the Hornet does?   I'm going to go through this review a little differently (or, m...

Who Done It? 0

This issue is new reader friendly, and you need not have read any Kato or Green Hornet comics before this. BUT, there is not really any action in this particular book, so if you are looking for some ninja ass kicking or bullet dodging, this issue isn't for you. If you are looking for great dialogue and story, then this issue and this series is for you.  I feel like it was just the other day someone mentioned certain genres of comics that simply no longer have the hold on comics that they once di...

Take the Land that Must be Taken.... 0

I had missed out on this book since I never saw it on the previews list, so I am reading and reviewing it after #3. But, you don't need to have read #1 or anything. This story stands alone. Only, maybe you might want to see the episode with Mustakrakish first....  Tying in to the episode (from Season One, "Dethtroll"), everyone is trying to cover up that Dethklok woke up Mustakrakish in Finland, and then it went on a disastrous rampage, like all good lake trolls do. The book starts out solid and...

Become Better Liars 0

Spoilers ahead and I'm jumping right in.  This issue marks the conclusion to the 'Death of Oracle' story arc. Now, I don't know about you, but I didn't believe for one second that Oracle was going to die, and I believe that was Gail Simone's intention. It seemed pretty clear that the alias of Oracle had to go. So, it's no surprise that Barbara Gordon does not die in this issue.  The only thing was, I don't think we were supposed to know precisely. There has to be some unknowns for a compelling s...

Another Continuity Error? 2

So one of my biggest issues with all these Green Hornet comics coming out is that it doesn't seem like the writers and editors are communicating with each other. I even made a blog about it. Sure, for the most part it is little things, but it's enough to throw a reader a curve ball. I know some people don't care about continuity, but I do. Especially when these are all fairly new characters with little history. But I'll get to the problem in a bit...  So after some headlessness, we see Mulan tak...

Kato Rules, Green Hornet Drools 0

This is the second issue in the 'Idols' story arc and we pick up where the last issue left off, Britt Jr. falling off the bridge fighting the fearless members of the Los Hijos de la Muerte. It's more of a look into how far from the perfect hero Britt is and let's us know that he has a long way to go to fill his father's shoes.   While Britt is taken captive by a corrupt (?) cop, Mulan goes to find out what she can about this gang. While she's busy, so is her father on the other side of the world...

Late Start 0

This is the first issue of the series with Phil Hester on board writing. Kevin Smith's run is over and I guess I was slightly upset that the Black Hornet was killed. I mean, the Green Hornet barely has a rogues gallery. The guy who killed the original Green Hornet, as well as Kato's wife (Mulan Kato's mother), should kind of stick around a little longer. I was also concerned with the lack of communication between the writers of all the current Green Hornet books. So, I sat on this issue, and the...

War of the Green Lanterns Needs a Jump Start 2

Here we are. The prologue to the War of the Green Lanterns. My first problem is that this is a prologue. If you haven't been reading, they aren't catching you up very much. If you are smart enough, you'll get a good idea of what is going on, but you'll have no idea why this is a War of the Green Lanterns. But then again, neither do those who have been reading.   I have my guesses though. We get some back story to the main villain, Krona, and why he is such a bad guy. I found this all a little od...

Future Regrets? 3

Yes, I am still reading Brightest Day, besides the fact it is taking forever for them to move all these stories along in a way that makes us understand with the big picture of the story really is. It's been forever since we've seen the Martian Manhunter, at least that's how I feel. So do we finally get some type of conclusion? Yes, we do.  I actually find the Martian Manhunter story to be one of the more interesting stories in the series, and I also find D'Kay as one of the most interesting vill...

Girls Only 1

When you read as many superhero comics as I do, sometimes you forget to change your outlook on titles like Sweet Tooth. Although there are a few things in the story that you have to stretch your imagination with, try to read this as though it were based in reality to get the best emotional impact from the book.   That being said, sometimes I also grow impatient with this series. I like it so much, I can't wait for the end, and sometimes I feel that issues like this are only slowing down that eve...

Loss of Confidence? 9

This issue marks the beginning of the four issue mini of the newly formed Annihilators, fresh out of the Thanos Imperative. Fortunately for new readers, you need not have read that story arc, or any that come before it. This is a stand alone story. You get a briefing within the first few pages in the dialogue as to who the main characters are. They just so happen to be the biggest hitters in the Marvel cosmic scene, having been brought together to defend the universe. Now we get to find out what...

Would Make A Great Episode 0

Somehow, I missed #2 altogether. It wasn't on Diamond's shipping list and I didn't see it in my normal scan of the shelves at my LCS. Either way, you don't need to have read any Dethklok comics before this one. It's self contained.  The problem with this series is, you have to be a fan of the show. I kind of doubt anyone who has not seen the show would even get the content of this or any other Dethklok comic to date.   On to the spoiling. Dethklok have built the world's biggest train, the Dethtr...

Ming the Manipulator 2

I've been reading Kato and many of the other Green Hornet relaunch books by Dynamite since the beginning, and this series is one of the few that I still continue to read. I don't know what it is about this series. I just like Mulan Kato. That, and I've always loved Diego Bernard's artwork.  On to the book. This is the third issue in a new storyline where a rogues gallery is being developed for Mulan. The events here take place before the Green Hornet stuff, so she is still searching for the Blac...

A Loss For Words 1

So. Here we are. The final issue of the Fantastic Four. Is it at least good? Spoilers ahead.  Oh yeah. To be honest, I actually don't care for the art of the main story so much. Epting took the month off and we got Nick Dragotta instead. I am not too familiar with his style. But then after going through the story, it seems to fit the issue well. The facial expressions really tell the tale and get you feeling what the character is going through. Dragotta and Hickman sure paired well here.   I do ...

Gleason #142 0

So, if you're looking for Witchblade, this isn't the story for you. Aside from a brief cameo and description of Sara and the Witchblade, she is absent from the issue.   Now, that doesn't mean this is a bad issue. It focuses on her partner, Detective Gleason, who is on his own about to pick up a wanted criminal from upstate New York and bring him back to NYC. The criminal happens to be a mob hitman, with quite the creepy demeanor.   The story itself gives some good insight into Gleason's characte...

Triumphant Return 5

Let me start by saying that this is long over due. All the great character depth that was given to the Surfer his ongoing series in the 80's - late 90s was virtually erased when he returned as Galactus' herald during Annihilation. Don't get me wrong, Annihilation was awesome, and the Surfer's involvement and development was awesome too, but in the process we lost Norrin Radd.   Ever since, the Surfer once again grew cold, almost heartless, as he had once again given up his individuality to serve...

Not New User Friendly 4

So let's see. Four stories. One about Firestorm, one about Hawkgirl and Hawkman, one about Martian Manhunter and one revolving around Aquaman and Deadman.  Being a noob to the DC Universe, I was really lost here. I enjoyed the Firestorm story and it gave me a decent idea of what was happening. Hawkman and Hawkgirl explained a little and got me more interested in what is to come. The Martian Manhunter story left me in the dark. I had no idea what was going on or who was who. Whoever the crazy lad...

Slowly Filling the Role 2

I don't care what you say, I like Stephanie Brown. There, I said it.  Everyone complains that she isn't Cassandra Cain. That's the point. In fact, she's almost the opposite. So quit your griping, Cass will be back eventually and just enjoy this for what it is.   So far, this Calculator business is my favorite events of the series. Steph is slowly becoming worthy of the title of Batgirl. This issue was a lot deeper than the usual 'Spider-Man problems' Steph was having in her personal life. I did ...

No Cover Art Trickery 3

Let me just say, I love Ed Benes' art. Usually with a comic you get a beautiful cover from one artist and a different artist who actually drew the book. Not the case here. Benes draws the whole book and wonderfully at that.   On to the story. There were a few moments I didn't understand, mostly some of the bar scene with Hawk and Dove. It seems wherever they were, there was a little confusion. Other than that, it was solid. I like the direction and the interactions between the Birds. I also enjo...

Not a Great First Issue 0

As a fan of all things Hornet, I was very curious about this one. After the preview from Free Comic Book Day, I was confused. This issue didn't really clarify anything for me.   It seems to be in the future. How far in the future? Who knows. Doesn't seem like too far, but a man named John Reid claims to be the Green Hornet and he is old. Could he be Britt Reid Jr.'s son? Who knows. Who is this other Hornet? Who knows.  Is it even in any type of continuity with Dynamite's other Hornet books? Who ...

Just Plain Cheesy 1

I've barely been holding on to this series. Grant Morrison is just all over the place. Some call it genius, but not me.   So all these clues that they are looking for are CORNY. Plus, it seems like Dick is an idiot when we know he isn't. There was no drama here and no climax. Damien finds out he's being cloned and he seems to have no problem with it. Batman can be surrounded by the henchmen of one of his greatest enemies and gets the luxury of saying 'next time?' As for the reveal - WHO DIDN'T S...

Ring Leader Revealed 0

Let me start by saying how much I enjoy the originality of this series. I only give this a 3.5 out of 5 because of what I have come to expect from this book. This issue falls a little short.  We do learn that Dr. Singh is not all evil and that he is not the leader of the group at the Preserve, but merely follows the orders of a man named Abbot. We also get to see how they came to obtain Jepperd's wife's body, but we still don't know why or what type of deal Jepperd made with them afterward, seei...

More Questions Than Answers 0

In my attempts to begin reading the Green Lantern titles, I've included this in my pull list. I'm not so sure it is absolutely necessary for me to understand the Green Lanterns or their history. Not reading Blackest Night hurt me a bit while reading this as well.   I love the art but the stories inside (following the resurrected characters) are all like the last few minutes of a TV show. Nothing answered and now you can't wait to see the next episode. So the whole issue could be summed up as 'wa...

Kick Ass x7 0

So if you talk to me often, you know I'm loving this series. Every issue focuses on one member of the Great Ten - this one focused on the Seven Deadly Brothers.  How do you make a Kung Fu master who can split into seven different people more interesting? Give him some torment in his life, that's how. It's amazing how few of these characters are on the Great Ten for good, honest purposes but I think that is the whole point of the book. Tony Bedard is taking these characters and giving them such c...

Mixed Feelings 1

So this is my first issue of the Green Lantern Corps and my second Green Lantern book ever. This issue is more of an aftermath issue than some type of cliffhanger. The War of Light is over and the Black Lanterns are defeated. As a noob, some questions were answered and some places left me in confusion.  Some people complain about lengthy recaps, but those people are the ones who have been reading for a long time...... I can't really blame the issue for me not knowing what's going on though. In s...

Are They Even A Team? 1

After almost a year, this series has gone practically nowhere. I feel like it's more of a reality show than a team book. Three wild and crazy girls living in an apartment together? Sounds like a sitcom or Real World situation.  So, basically, nothing happens in this issue. It seems like every issue one of them gets in some trouble and the next issue solves the problem. Poison Ivy is trying to get in touch with her human side by getting a job, only to inhumanly fire an entire team of individuals ...

A Hero Is Born 0

I've always been a fan of the Green Hornet. I always thought of him and Kato as Batman and Robin, only more realistic. I've been reading all of Dynamite's new Hornet books and I think this one takes the cake. We finally get to see the direction this is moving in, and I personally like it (although it's been slightly predictable). Stop reading now if you don't want any spoilers.  This issue is the dawning of a new hero and he is hardly qualified for the job. But it looks like he's going to get so...

WOW 1

The whole reason I started reading the Hulk in the first place was the Intelligencia. I love these villains, even though they are so underrated. This issue was my pay off. Even though we know that their evil plans will not succeed, this issue shows what happens if they did.......or does it?  I hated the Red Hulk at first. I am really starting to like his character now and I almost care who he really is (even though I think it's General Ross). Regardless, he's growing on me. After a captivating v...

You're Losing Me...... 0

Let's get this out of the way. I love the Fantastic Four. I always have. I will read you to the bitter end. But......  I really hope this is the last 'set up' issue. I love the direction, the anticipation of what's to come and the artwork but let's get on with it. This is four issues in a row with very little action and even more questions that need answering. Not everyone may have the devotion or patience I have and I hate the idea that people may be dropping this book because of the slow pace....

Excellent Story 0

So, even though this didn't really deal too much with Kato's actual origins, it was a great story. Taking place in 1942, the story half focuses on the perspective of Japanese Kato in a country where the the attack on Pearl Harbor is recent in everyone's memory. As much as I like a different perspective, I also like a story to have more than a moral, and this comic delivers. It also has good detective work, character development and friendships. Not to mention some typical Kato ass kicking.  As m...
