Oliver Jonas Queen, the Green Arrow
"You ask hard questions. I thought about it. Perhaps if the courts were more concerned with justice than 'law' there would be no need for men like me. Look around and see a young woman murdered by a man on work release from prison... Or a three-time rapist let out after only a year in jail... And I have to ask myself: where's the justice? I don't envy you your job. You have to deal with the law and the law is very clear. But when you're forced to watch some psychopath turned loose on the streets because of a technicality, don't you ever ask yourself... Where's the justice? I'll admit, I started doing this for fun. But that was a long time ago when things were a lot simpler. Now we've got kids on the street who kill for pocket change. When some scumbag beats an eighty year old woman for her social security check... And the court can't touch him because he's a juvenile who's back on the street in sixty days, a lot of people want to know... Where's the justice? For people like that... The answer is people like me."
After being shipwrecked on an uncharted island after being thrown overboard of his yacht, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen had to hunt to survive. Forced to rely on his survival instincts, Oliver picked up his bow and discovered his natural talent as a hunter. After taking down pirates on the island he was on and getting rescued he returned home to Star City as the vigilante Green Arrow.
I have compiled this Respect Thread for Post-Crisis Oliver Queen after reading through all of his appearances between 1985-2011. (Though this isn't complete yet.) I've included pretty much every major feat during this time-frame and as a result there may be some inconsistencies in ability or feats you consider outliers. I want to state now that there are some feats here that I personally see as above Oliver's consistent level, but I'm providing all of them so that people can decide Ollie's standard for themselves. If there's anything I've left out, or anything I can improve, please let me know. I always appreciate feedback. I've done the scans as links, so click on them for feats. It'd be much more work for me to embed with the three-scan rule, unfortunately.
Before I get started on Oliver's feats, I want to point out that his skill and physicals increased after training with multiple Grandmasters and eventually Natas, Deathstroke's teacher, for a year. This happened in Green Arrow V3 #60, and low showings from before that aren't particularly relevant.
- Boomerang arrows.
- Lock-pick arrows.
- Diamond-tipped arrow.
- Oxygen and flare arrows.
- Acetylene arrows, smoke arrows and net arrows.
- Two-stage rocket arrows, balloon arrows, firecracker arrows, handcuff arrows, dry-ice arrows, fake-uranium arrows and more.
- Geiger-counter arrows.
- Corrosive arrows.
- Mapping arrows, seeker arrows and gas arrows.
- Flare arrows, which seeker missiles follow.
- Parachute arrows.
Hits an archery target from an incredibly far distance. We don’t see the face of the board but it looks to be a bullseye. The image has to be so far zoomed out to show Oliver and the archery target that we can’t make Oliver out. Connor Hawke claimed afterwards that he is incapable of making this shot.
Whilst being grabbed, Oliver shoots a medallion on a demon so far away that the reader can’t even properly see the medallion. Although the monster wearing it blocked it the next page says that it was a perfect shot.
Shoots between somebody's fingers to disarm them of their knife, shoots another person's baseball bat and then shoots two different people in the foot and through their trousers without hitting any of the people.
- Accurately fires arrows from a sled whilst moving and in the air.
After just having woken up from a three month coma, Oliver bullseyes a very small target from a large distance away, then shoots again and hits the exact same place, splitting his first arrow. Afterwards, he turns around and fires through his legs to split his previous two arrows with a third.
Holds his drawn bowstring for half an hour without his arm moving at all, after so much blood was just taken from his arm that taking anymore would be dangerous and Ollie could barely speak. As was stated in the panel, Ollie didn't have his strength back. This isn't just the writer underestimating how hard it is to pull a bow, before writing Green Arrow Kevin Smith tried archery and commented on how strong you need to be to pull a longbow, and even has Mia Dearden comment on it.
Picks up and carries a monster - with an enhanced version of what made Solomon Grundy who he is - back to S.T.A.R. Labs from deep in the forest, with mild strain before she wakes up. In the second scan we see her size in comparison to Solomon Grundy, who has the same powers as her and who weighs 971lbs.
- Breaks the corner of a concrete wall, bending the rebar, by kicking a man into it.
After just being stabbed and beaten down, Oliver takes the knife out of his shoulder and is able catch up to the attacker between him and Connor Hawke before the attacker could reach his son. Oliver would have to be at least twice as fast as the attacker, who is a professional mercenary to do this, since he was about halfway between Oliver and Connor. He was also already in sprint, whilst Oliver had to start from standing still and build up speed fast enough to stop him.
Stays conscious after being sucker punched in the back of the head whilst unaware and being kicked in the face, and doesn’t seem too bothered by it afterwards as he is able to get up and escape a burning building.
Tanks getting thrown into a stalactite by Solomon Grundy so hard it breaks, and then gets tossed into some metal. Afterwards he gets launched off his feet by Grundy hitting the ground next to him and tanks a punch to the face by "rolling with it". This particular incarnation of Grundy was strong enough to toss cars about and destroy cliffs by punching them.
In a location of Red Hood's choice which favours guns, Oliver fires two arrows aimed at the barrels of Jason's guns, uses his knowledge of the city as Mayor to exploit the environment and aims at Jason's feet to make the arrows more likely to hit their target.
Vs. Solomon Grundy - Victory
Vs. Brick - Victory
Vs. Deadshot - Stalemate
Vs. Merlyn 1 - Inconclusive
Vs. Merlyn 2 - Victory at first, but Merlyn wins after distracting Oliver
Vs. Red Hood - Victory
Vs. Black Canary - Defeat
Vs. Arsenal - Victory (Roy wasn't in the right state of mind because his daughter had been killed, and the fight was purely melee.)
