Thank God It Is Over 0

This is the last issue of the three issue series and it was the best one.  That said I only gave it one star.  Jane gets revenge for all the things that happened so far and she does it in a fashion that makes her like the people she is hunting than a hero.  Besides the art being good the only bright-side of this book is evil is punished but it is so hollow after Painkiller's incompetence that is no more than a snuff book.  There is no feeling up redemption there is no one who is saved.  Everythi...

I can not believe it. 0

I can not believe it but this issue is actually worse than the last issue.  Forget the horrible crimes that are dipicted in this three issue series.  Forget that the images are just for shock value.  There is no depth to this story.  Painkiller Jane is obviously suicidal in this book and the only reason given to put her on this path is the fact that she had to take her dog poochie to the vet and have it put to sleep.    If you read my last review in issue one you will know what I'm talking about...

Vile 15

This book was not very enjoyable.  I am not a prude and I understand that everyones tastes are not the same as mine so don't dismiss this review an unthoughtful slam.  This comic has some of the most vile crimes one human can do to another.  It is grotesque and awful. That said it lacks in composition and story as well.  There will be some spoilers revealed but believe me it will be worth reading on. Painkiller wakes up and is an average tormented character like Punisher.  The thing is it is nev...

What!?! 0

This was a great issue.  Like almost all Ghost comics it is intense.  As a reader I can not wait to find out what is going on.  Just like the character Ghost I am always trying to figure out what the hell is going on.  I also worry about the characters because there is a real danger in the comic.  Characters can die.  So no one is safe.  Even host is forced to suffer over and over again and this issue is no exception.  The only reason I didn't give this book five stars in not because I don't lov...

Caution. 0

First let me say I love this book and I love this series.  I only have one concern as to the direction the series might take in the future.  Now that is a might.  I hope it won't but maybe, possibly in the future the character of Ghost may not be as likable as she has been so far.  What I am eluding to is Ghost's personality.  She is a strong female character and really like her but when she is with her sister in this issue she comments that her sister hates men more than she does.  Now I have i...

One Strong Lady 3

Ghost is forced to be a  caricature of herself. So far Ghost is a very strong woman and she can contend with the big boys.  Ghost faces her worse adversary Cameron Nemo who can control her by outsides means.  He can even control parts of her mind.  Knowing Ghost is a strong woman he does everything he can to put her into humiliating situations.  She is only able to break free by standing up for herself.  Each time she does however she faces a new and more humiliating situation.  I love Gh...

Good One Shot 0

This is a really good self contained comic.  The story looks at homeless people in a sensitive light while the Blue Beetle is trying to stop a man from killing them off one by one.  The motive of the killer was not that great and morale was a little forced but it was a good book.  It is rare to see stories like this where the good guy stops the criminal and there is a moral tone to the story.  It also showed that no matter what Blue Beetle does as a superhero he cannot stop the broader cultural ...

Detroit 3

Well I am always glad to see a comic take place in Detroit as I live in the suburb of the struggling city.  My disappointment comes from the death of the original Firestorm.  I am never a fan of a hero's mantle being passed after his death.  DC Comics was also doing this a lot killing off white heroes to replace with minority characters.  I never thought this was a good idea and wondered why the company couldn't make original characters of minorities.  Back to the issue at hand the art is amazin...

Anther Great Ghost Story! 1

I Love the Stripper Tribute to Donna Troy I have not been disappointed in a Ghost book yet.  Those of you who have read my reviews know I am honest and will give a bad review if the book needs it.  I don't like it but there is some garbage out there.  This book on the other hand is wonderful. Now I wouldn't recommend this book to young ones because it has a PG-13 feel.  Now if you are beyond that this story is great.  The art is terrific and I gave it four out of five stars.  The only thing...

If I Only Knew. 4

I wish I knew about these Ghost comics when they came out.  Now here I am fifteen years later trying to find everything I can on this spectacular hero.  I am telling you all look beyond DC and Marvel and see the wonderful characters that are around you.  Ghost is fast becoming one of my favorite characters. and this fist issue of her own catapults a world of excitement.  Ghost is a spectacular strong character with a huge chip on her shoulder and a black past.  With each issue she has been in th...

Ghost is the Most 0

Another great Ghost story.  The Ghost has become and intriguing character in just a few short issues.  She also has many great superpowers as well.  The villains in this book are the worst kind and portrayed perfectly.  They are evil and make your skin crawl not by randoms act of violence but in their very dialog.   Ghost is almost an expert with her powers and uses them all to their fullest.  She does this even without having used them much.  She also has a passion as an avenger that can not be...

Little Ghost 2

I loved this book it is great.  It sets out to do what it intended to do and that is make great and intriguing characters that will make you want to follow them in further adventures.  Comic's greatest world may not be the greatest but it has a base of characters that I will love and respect and two of them are right here the Ghost and X.    This world could be just as good as Marvel and DC had the money been there to back the characters and if most comic readers ever read anything that wasn't s...

What? 2

This is a really disappointing issue but that said this is still a great series.  A bad book for this group is better than the best of others.  That is why I gave it three stars out of five.  I recommend this book and more importantly this series.  Any series is going to have higher and lower points and this is a low one but the series is great pick it up.  One more highlight to this book is the art and that is awesome.  SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content. The disappointing part...

An Origin Begins 0

I thought this was a great book but it did have some problems.  I have written a couple of these reviews for this series and I hate pointing out the problems I have seen with these books because I don't want to detract from your enjoyment of reading the book.  I personally have liked this series very much but there are some things that creep up making this book less than perfect.  Let me start with the art color and layout of this book.  Tremendous.  It can not be beat.  I loved every page and f...

Great Work 0

This is a good comic as all of them have been in the series so far.  The art is tremendous.  The layouts art and color pop off the page just like the cover.  Many panels show tremendous perspective and detail for a 1980's comic.  The whole book is ahead of it's time in comics.  This particular issue is a self contained story.  You can read this book and not worry about any story arcs.  It just seemed a little to predictable.  I knew by the second page who the bad guy was, and it seemed a little ...

I'm Sick 7

This book was a steaming pile.  Hey, I'll even give you some spoilers.  NEW GODS DIE.  If that spoiler bothers you don't read on.  Maybe the rest of the series is great but I doubt it.  Look I was never a fan of Jack Kirby's New gods but this is just weak.  Big Barda about one of the only cool characters to come out of the New Gods is killed off frame in a kitchen of all places.  Not befitting the kind of hero she was.  Not only is Barda killed off but yet another married couple is broken up in ...

All Right? 0

Killers in Love This was a good issue with a lot of uncomfortable "all right?" moments.  One is right in the beginning when Vigilante notices an expert assassin on a roof top out of the corner of his eye while on patrol riding a motorcycle from several blocks away.  If he was flying over or had some superpower that would explain this it would be a stretch.    The second is the pair of homosexual assassins that work for opposing new york crime bosses as their elite assassins.  For starters t...

Redemption. 2

This is a surprisingly good comic.  Not that I didn't expect it to be good but I did not expect the character development of Vigilante.  This has just about everything you could want in a comic.    It is a political yin and yang between why a superhero kills verses a superhero who doesn't.  This debate has been talked to death in comic blogs and forums and both sides have strong opinions on each side.  In this book you have two powerful heroes pitted against each other in battle and debating the...

Spectre Saves the Day 0

**Some Minor Spoilers** but, the book was written almost twenty years ago so please read my review. This is the first Spectre book I have read where the Spectre actually saves the day.  Most of the time Spectre seeks justice for those who die.  The damage has already been done and Spectre attempts to punish those he finds guilty.  This time he actually saves a life.    The Art in this is great and the cover is awesome.  I have to admit the comic store I go to had the whole series for sale but I o...

You Better 0

I liked this book because it at least shows the Spectre regretting of the suicide he indirectly caused.  This issue also shows the origin of the Spectre and why he is like he is.  It is missing a little but I hope that will come in the next issue.  Because most of this issue is a flash back there is a lot of creativity with the art and it is really good.  The flash backs are all precipitated by Amy Beiterman confronting Spectre on who he is.  I really like Amy.  She is obviously the female inte...

Best so far in the series 2

Best so far in the series.  I loved this book.  I knew nothing of the Spectre before I started reading and nothing prepared me for how great this story is.  As a hero I don't like the Spectre.  To me he is not a hero.  He is hubris he is vengeance and he would tell you that himself.  I really let the writer have it for issue two but one thing it do right was set up this issue.  Fantastic.  What I loved most about this issue is the Spetre admits to his short comings.  He screwed up a lot of thin...

Funny 0

This is an early Young Justice book but you can already get a feel of how good the series is going to be.  It is very funny and sets up the relationship with the Super-Cycle.   It also really starts the building the relationships between the team members. The art in this was great as well.  Although it is not a style I generally like in comics is was none the less brilliant.  I really bealive that the style of art in this series is really complementary for the style of book being written.  Just...

I was bummed 3

I really enjoyed issue one and read issue two right away, and the story was alright unless you think about it at all.  I know what the writer was trying to say but it fell hollow the way it was done.   I will get more into that later.   As for the good things in this issue.  The art was good and the story was smooth.  The art on the cover was awesome.  I however only gave the book two out of five stars because of plot.   ** The preceding contains some very minor spoilers ** This issue re...

Surprisingly Good 0

Spectre leaves to AvengeI know very little about the Spectre but after reading about him in another book I thought I'd give him a try.  The Spectre is an occult character and administers horrific punishments.  It is for this reason that I was hesitant on the character and this issue.   Once I read the story I was pleasantly surprised.  As I read the book I was not bogged down with tons of exposition explaining everything that has happened with the character since day one and there wasn't an ove...

Gilotina, huh Sucka 3

A Happy Gilotina This story was the best in the series but it was still pretty bad.  I will start with the two best parts.  Gilotina joins Project Cadmus and become part of their team because of her friendship/crush on the Tommy clone.  The Newsboy Legion also gets a new member in Famous Bobby who is more interesting than any of the other characters on the team.  One of the things that really bothered me about this book was the climatic battle at the end.  I hate when the Newsboy Legion goe...

Too much Jack Kirby!?! 0

This series is an obvious tribute to Jack Kirby and his creations and that is great but it takes on too much for a four issue series.  There are tons of characters and plot points to this series but there is so much nothing can be dealt with in depth.  This whole issue was basically a flashback to show more Jack Kirby creations.  It was not a great story.   The art in the comic was alright and it was better than the last issue but I could only give the book a one-and-a-half stars out of five.  I...

D.N.Awful 2

Clown Go Boom! This series took a bad turn. I was not sold on it from the first issue and it had two directions to go. Unfortunately it went down hill instead of up. From the start Dabney Donovan had the entire lead staff of Project Cadmus including the Guardian all imprison by perhaps about a hundred of his own clones. The clones were....get this....clowns with fuses on their heads and killer balloons that change words on themselves to mock their victims. No really, Exploding clowns and killer...

Too Much 2

This book is the first part of a four part mini-series.  As you can see by the cover there are a lot of characters featured in the series.  All fifteen characters on the cover have a role in this book and there seems to be about three or four different stories going on at the same time.  It seems like what should be twelve books are going to be squeezed into four I think this issue had the impossible task of introducing so many stories at one time and making it interesting.  It is not a bad book...

Victims, aren't we all. 0

I had a real problem with this book because of how the Huntress was portrayed.  In this book and in the whole series huntress is portrayed as a victim.  She is weak and so skidish that she is almost sent home from her teaching job after a co-worker puts his hand on her shoulder.  The Huntress is a powerful woman character but she is so frightened in this series she can barley function.  She looses it at the drop of a hat and acts without any rationality.    The Story in each book is weak and no...

Batman arrives to late to save the series. 0

I liked this book but it did seemed a bit forced.  You can tell that the writers are trying to wrap things up.  I don't mind the superstar being a guest star in the book.  I just want it done really well.  Batman seems a little off here.  I have had the same problem during the whole series.  Joey Cavalieri is the sole writer of the series and he seems to have trouble writing for characters that are suppose to have genies level intelligence.  It is very irritating to see characters who are ...

...and now for something completely different? 3

I liked this story and gave it four stars out of five or eight out of ten.  The plot is basically the origin of Cyborg as narrated by Cyborg.  This is a classic silver age origin.  He has the unhappy childhood.  he has the questionable best friend.  He has the quintessential moment that makes him decide between being the hero or the villein and he deals with a lost love.  One thing that I don't like about Cyborg's origin is that all the technology that was used to heal Cyborg was untested c...

Stop the Bleeding 0

Alright if you read the last issue you knew I was unlikely to give a positive review.  This book is worse than the first.  First of all we see Batman plastered on the front cover and he has nothing to do with the book.  I mean absolutely nothing.  For some unknown reason Huntress feels she needs to explain why she feels she needs Batman's approval  He didn't even have a line in the whole book.  It was shameless promoting.  This whole book had nothing to do about nothing.  It was just a syno...

No, No, No! 5

Guess what?  I hated this book.  There was not much story and, it was a poor summation of the origin.   The Huntress just beats on some random thugs and kills many of them.  There were no twists no suspense and essentially no story.  I have no interest in buying the rest of the series.  Unfortunately I already did before I got around to reading this issue.  As for the art.  I hated that as well.  However I did not mark down for it.  Art is too subjective to review.  Now that that is said this lo...

The Wrath Of A Child 0

A young genius level boy named James Cooper had his family killed several issues ago.  He shows up again here and seeks his revenge against the drug dealers.  He does this by setting up mines and bombs where the gangs state their territory.  I really love this book despite the violence.  It is after all for mature readers.  It is a great story of revenge.  I hope the resolution is as good in the next two issues.  I was sickened by the deaths of this boys family.  Especially the death of his litt...

Don't Tell Anyone 0

This is a great book.  Very funny and enjoyable.  I gave this book four-and-a-half stars or a nine out of ten.    As I write this review I am sad however, because I enjoyed these Young Justice books so much when they came out and now they are gone.  I miss characters like Secret and Arrowette.  They had a charm that made them a treat to read about and they were good characters to play off of heroes like Superboy and Robin.  This book is full of that charm.  Even the art emphasizes the charm of t...

Good and Sad 0

I liked this book but it is was a sad one.  The character Waterfront Warrior is ambushed on a live television show by Mike Cobb and and the mafia.  People he helped are set up and hurt.    The Waterfromt Warrior is a unique hero as he does not just fight crime but helps out in the neighborhood.  He does what he can and puts his heart and soul into helping others.  This makes it all the more tragic when he is set up.  I really liked this hero and story beside the attempt to make him look silly...

The Waterfront Warror 0

I really liked this book and it was one of my favorites so far.  I gave this book four out of five stars or eight out of ten.  The Waterfront Warrior is more than just a crime fighter like most heroes.  He does things for the community and is just a willing to help squatters and troubled mothers as he is fighting thugs.  I really liked the idea of this hero despite the attempt to make him look silly in a homemade looking costume.  It is a shame he didn't show up more.    The art in this book is ...

Stepping it up 0

I liked this issue and it is a real step up from the last issue.  The last issue was a transition from everything before to what it is now.  This book is like a new beginning.  Out with the old in with the new.  Almost every character from issue thirteen and lower don't show up again in the rest of the series.  The book presents the most realistic superhero ever.  The Waterfront Warrior.  Yeah, he is just some guy who wears a homemade costume but it is way more realistic than what Huntress wear...

Some Promise But, Confusion 0

This book has a really neat aspect to it and remember that this was written in 1990.  Way before Sopranos.  It deals with the Huntress seeking help from a Psychologist about her molestation as a child and it will grow into her confiding in her as to her role as a superhero.  I really liked this and thought it was a nice addition to the Huntress mythos.  The confusion in this book is not really in the book but comes after.  The Huntress has a mentor/Sidekick Tony Angelo who has helped her f...

You Have To Get Past the Premise. 0

I have been whining in the last few issues about how horrible this story line is as far as it's premise.  If you read my reviews on the previous issues Thank You.  If you haven't I would love it if you did.    This issue has a bad premise so it is hard to except from page one.  This is what we have so far... We have a young boy who is kidnapped from a science fair to make a nuclear bomb for a group of drug dealers known as the Psycho Crew.  Then the same gang has also stolen a tanker of nuclear ...
