Crank The Intensity 5

Oh great.  This Guy. Another great issue of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.  Hyde is proving to be all of a monster.  I love how Quartermain talks with him despite his intimidating power.  Quatermain and Mina are really turning out to be the heroes of the series so far.  Not much is done with Captain Nemo but I really hope to see him more involved in the next two issues.  I cannot say enough how much I like this concept.  I actually get upset at the end of each issue because I am fro...

Mission Impossible 12

Acid Writing A wonderful comic that has the feel of a Mission Impossible episode.  This is a great book and the team really came together here.  There are a lot on untrust.  Who to trust is the tricky part.   The team also runs into the Evil Dr. Fu Manchu. This world created here is pure Genius and it is really refreshing to see these stories continues in this series.  There are parts I love and parts I am not fond of but overall these books are really good.  I highly recommend this book to...

Brilliant Concept 6

Genius I cannot state enough how much I love this concept.  First of all In order to wright a story like this you must read a lot.  A character like Alan Quatermain has ten novels alone.  When you have that kind of depth it is important that you have your research down cold.  I have read several of these books and I found it to be pretty consistent.  That said I have not read them all but to me it looks great.  There seems to be an answer to everything that has gotten the characters to this...

Great Space Ghosts! 2

What does Kirk want? That's right Kirk actually says "Great Space Ghosts."  I almost did a spit take.  This book was so bad and so cheesy, that I couldn't help but enjoy it.   It has a lot of the weird stuff as the last five issues including McCoy wearing a Gold Uniform and the crews beaming down with tons of military gear and the misuse of name and terms, Like saying "rockets on full" instead of "Warp Speed."    The plot is equally ridiculous.  The planet is filled with debris from a war a...

Steady 2

Teleportaion Chamber  Each issue get just a little bit better.  This is good.  This episode seemed like a third season episode of the original Star Trek.  Not one of the best but at least in the Star Trek park.  (If you get my meaning)   The crew of the Enterprise help a planet of people regain their planet and form by the help of Spock and many, many crew members.    There are some things that are still off.  McCoy wears a yellow shirt and characters use language that they never used in t...

Great Novas 4

Planet Zarta Star Trek is a love of mine and it neat to read these comics from the 1960's.  Each issue so far in the series gets better.  There is a lot that is missed however.  The terminology is a bit off.  and the characters are as well.  The exception is Spock who looks great but too often reacts with an exclamation point when not needed.    All this said this is the best story in the comic series so far.  It is very acceptable that this plot could be an episode of Star Trek.  If not th...

Shades of Pluto...It's getting better 0

Kirk and Alien If you read my review for the first issue of this series you will know how much better this book was than the last one but there is room for a lot of improvement.  The main thing is the terms are all mixed up like the Transporter Room is called the Transporter Chamber and so on.  Everything is just a little off.  Spock who is supose to have no emotion yells Shades of Pluto!   It was all a bit off.    Art This story however is a lot better than the last one.  It was a Star Trek st...

Great Galaxies Spaceman 1

Janice Rand's Bee Hive I love Star Trek.  Love it.  So it pained me to give this only one star.  It seemed as if no one who wrote this had seen a Star Trek Episode.  Sure it was written in the late 60's so there was only the original series to set a a base for the comic but the book seems to miss everything.    First the most noticeable is Janice Rand's Bee Hive.  Anyone who has seen the first season of Star Trek knows how she looks and she is drawn correctly but the top of her hair is colo...

I said it before 5

A Price of Battle Well, there is not much I can say about this book that I didn't already say in the first issue.  http://www.comicvine.com/infinite-crisis-infinite-crisis/37-105305/ The story is great.  The art is great.  This is shaping up to be a better story than the original Crisis of Infinite Earths.   There is little in this book not to like.  I even like the development of Superboy-Prime.  It is unfortunate that he sucks so bad now as a character.  There is so much to like ab...

I hated giving four stars 3

The End I hated giving four stars for this book because so many characters die poorly.  That said this book was awesome and when I would usually grade low on a death book like this I couldn't help but love it.  The art was great and the story was great and the concept was great it just had a couple flaws that take away from my enjoyment of a book like this.  First let me start with the arguing DC Trinity.  They bicker like kids while the Freedom Fighters get stomped hard on a mission they w...

Well....I want to say this was awesome but.... 1

I liked an earlier review on this book but, I wanted to add a few points.  First of all I love several of the characters from the Freedom Fighters.  First of all the quick conclusion to the renegades really ticked me off.  How easily there were dispatched after they killed one of the team made little sense to me.   I love the Phantom Lady but this newest version of the character is not very likable.  Especially in this series.  Phantom Lady dispatches the Renegades single-handed with her b...

Now, about Dynamite Entertainment. 1

Family Tree I have some of the new Dynamite Entertainment books about the Green Hornet but I have not read many of them yet.  What I have read has been excellent what I have heard is great as well.  This said these Now comics are excellent as well.  So I guess what I am saying is if you are a fan of these Dynamite Entertainment Books you should check out these Now Comic books.    These first two issues of the Green Hornet are awesome.  They give an origin story of the Green Hornet that feel...

I cannot wait for the movie 1

The First Team I am so excited about the new Green Hornet Movie and wanted to read some books to familiarize myself with the character.  If you know nothing about the Green Hornet than this book is for you and if you are a fan than you must already have this book.  If not get it.    This is a doublesized issue that has tons of information.  Not only is there a lot about the Green Hornet in comic form but there is even pages from his memoirs in the back of the book.  This is completer with t...

Read something besides what you are told too. 5

Review This is a great book and I am enjoying the series so far.  This may be the best issue so far.  First of all the art is perfect.  The writing is great.  The only concern I have with the book is maybe the pacing.  With a time travel story you always hope everything turns out in the end.  You also want to be careful you don't get left behind.  I love this book and Booster and Rip have been great.  They are by far the stars of the book.  That is saying a lot when Superman and Hal Jordan are o...

Stink-Tastic 4

This book was no fun.  I bought this to read to my four year-old son.  He is nuts about the Ninja Turtles especially Raphael.  I thought that this Archie Book would be a great story to read to him but it was so overladen with political dialog that is was annoying to me and boring to him.  I am not against anything that the book states but it was so filled with jargon it was like reading a political pamphlet.  To give you an idea it was more political than a Captain Planet comic. To give a quo...

What else can be said? 3

Please don't take this the wrong way but why do we have ten reviews for some books that just came out and none for these great older books.  I could see it if this was written in the 1940's but come on these are not even that old.  Anyway here is the review for the three people who will read it.  Thank you by the way.  =D.  This book was perfect.  I was going to give it four-and-a-half stars but then I thought to myself..."Self,  what is wrong with this book?"  I thought for a moment and respond...

From Awesome to Garbage in one issue 4

I hope you like the review. These comics are always hard to review because there are three sections.  This issue is one of the newspaper comics that used to be inserted into a weekly paper.  In the 1940' newspapers were worried about comic book companies cutting into their profit during the superhero fad.  So, they inserted a full sized comic into their own paper.  This bhttp://www.comicvine.com/the-spirit-the-spirit-lady-luck-mr-mystic/37-240994/ook was a full 16 page comic and had thr...

Ghost Wire 0

Ghost Really good issue. It has action, suspense, great art and cliffhangers. I cannot wait to read the next issue. I also like Barb Wire here. She is charming and likable and the first character I know that seems to one up Ghost.  Everything about this series is great. It is a little heavier subject matter but it deals with a good story over all rather than shock value with gore art. To me this is the perfect way to do books like this. Don't get me wrong there is violence and blood but i...

Big let down. 2

I was a big fan of the Gargoyle Cartoons so I thought the comic was going to be great. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. It was not the worst this I ever read and it didn't seem to have any glaring plot holes or discontinuity it was just dry as a bone. I literally got sleepy reading it and this is bad because the target audience it probable young than I so if it bored the hell out of me I can't picture a kid reading it.  The art was good and the story was alright I guess but it was all written from...

Damn It! 5

I loved this book all the way till the last page. Everything was going great and then BLAM! Now I peeing myself wondering how Impulse is going to bee affected. Now this issue is seven years older than this review so I know some of how this turned out in the long term but when it happened I panicked and the bad part is it will always be in the background. If you don't know what I'm referring too just check out the last page.  Over all I really did like the book. It was well written there are...

Teen Titans Go! 3

I really, really liked this book a lot. Anything complaint I would have about this book would just be nit picking. This is a just about perfect in every way. I really liked a lot of these characters when they were in other books and I really liked the comic series with Young Justice so I was thrilled to see a new book that brought the new generation into the folds of the Titans.  I thought it was cool seeing Impulse in the new Kid Flash uniform on the cover but was surprised when he didn't w...

I want 90 minutes of my life and my 20 bucks back! 5

Stewing This movie was a big disappointment for me.  I am a huge fan of Bruce Timm and when this DVD came out I thought it was going to be great.  I literally believed that Timm was incapable of making a bad superhero cartoon.    I didn't care much for the original story of Doomsday because it was so forced.  The plot points in the original story were continually convenient enough to make the story work.  This built up to the climax of Superman figuring out that the projectiles on Doomsday'...

Falling Flat 3

Dolan PushedThe Comic  This is a newspaper comic. Please note that this is a full 16 page comic that was inserted into newspapers in the 1940's. These are not comic strips. This issue features the Spirit but has two other shorter stories one with Lady Luck and the other with Mr. Mystic.  This issue was not the best. Even the Spirit story was lacking a little. Over all the book gets three-and-a-half stars. The art is really good as usual but the stories fall flat. The one big thing is t...

The eyes of a MadmanThe Comic  This is another newspaper comic. This was a full size 16 page comic inserted into a newspaper in the 1940's. In this issue there are three stories. The first in the title story of the Spirit, the second is Lady Luck and the third is Mr. Mystic. Over all the comic is slightly above average but the stories differ greatly between each other.  Over all I gave the book a three-and-a-half star rating. It should also be noted that the art is terrific. I would rec...

Snuffed Out 0

Slug Fest I didn't originally write a review for this book because I felt that it was all said in the review that was already on this page. I do not like to write reviews when someone else already wrote one unless I completely disagree. I think it looks kind of lame to have ten reviews saying the same thing for a new issue, especially when there are so many books that have no reviews. All this said I am writing this review because of the Trade Paper Back (TPB) I needed to write this par...

History 3

The Final Moment Because this is a trade paper back I posted my individual reviews here.  There were a few pages at the beginning of this trade that have Doomsday punching a wall and slowly making progress but it is hardly worth a review.  Over all I gave this book three stars.  I would recommend it to anyone who loves comics and their history or any Superman fan.   Superman: The Man of Steel #18This is the issue where we finally got to see more of Doomsday than a fist.  That said he didn'...

1940 6

Mr. Mystic I love this.  I only discovered that these Newspapers existed a week ago and I just read my first one.  I have to say I loved it.  It is a full comic broken down into three stories.  The Spirit, Lady Luck and Mr. Mystic each have their own story.  The art is phenomenal and I loved reading an old comic before the comic code.  I thought this page was particularly amazing.  Having two grown men fighting completely nude in a Sunday Paper of the 1940's is something I never expected to...

About Time 2

This is the first book where the story arch about Superman's death gets good.  Up until this point it has been a series of convenient plot points.  Everyone was just dumb and reckless enough to let Doomsday get past.  On top of that, Doomsday has gotten to every break so that he and Superman can have their final showdown.  This is what has happened before this book.  This book is the beginning of the final showdown and it is nothing but a brawl.  Overall the book was good with a few exceptions l...

Filler 0

This issues in the Death of Superman story arch was just filler.  This review will not likely be long because not much happened.  Basically Doomsday fights Superman and Guardian and there is little the two heroes can do to stop him.  Doomsday keeps getting stronger and the heroes keep loosing ground.  The problem with this issue is there was very little story between in this issue.  You could read the last story in the story arch and then the issue after this and really not miss a beat.  It coul...

It is about time! 0

I have been reading every issue of the Death of Superman story arch and it is ridicules how the Justice League is portaded in this story.  For starter this is the first issue where Maxima finally started attacking Doomsday.  She hits he hard enough to knock him off his feet.  If she Superman Maxima, Bloodwynd SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.(Who is really Martian Manhunter) and the rest of the league attacked him all at the same time this story would have ended differently....

Guy Is Awsome! 2

Alright this is the classic story of Doomsday that leads to the "Death" of Superman and to be honest it is not that great.  It is not awful mind you but it is all conveniently written.  It the book leading up to this one Maxima is not involved in the battle.  This is annoying because Maxima is nearly as strong as Superman.  Not only that Bloodwynd is SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content.really the Martian Manhunter.  This is also irritating because he is only using powers that ...

Awesome. 14

Please Humor me and read this personal story about this issue.I have almost every appearance of Guy Gardner.  Even his first appearance. (Two Copies).  Guy is the only reason I read comics today.  I was in the store buying the Death of Superman graphic novel for a present for my brother.  When I bought it I was telling my girlfriend who was with me what a dork my brother was and how stupid comics were but in the boredom of the car ride home I started reading the book.    Being open minded...

Lackluster Start 0

I tawt I taw a poody.. Hurk! This is the issue where we finally got to see more of Doomsday than a fist.  That said he didn't do much.  I really didn't like the start of this book because it made Doomsday look silly.  He breaks out from his mysterious prison to kill of all things a little yellow bird.  Doomsday just reaches out his hand and the bird lands in it.  Of course this happens all the time.  I have often been walking around outside and have many of bird land on my open outstretched...

Too Much 4

How True. This is another of a long line of DC Multiverses.  The Milestone universe is combined with the DC Universe just like so many before it.  For example the Charlton Universe and the Red Circle Universe.  This is always a mess and especially so in the DC Universe because of the amount of universes it has absorbed.  This is no different and it is no small wonder that there has been almost nothing done with most of the characters from the Milestone Universe.  Now for the issue at hand. ...

Death of a Ghost 1

Wow.  I mean wow.  This book was intense.  I was into every word.  Every page.  With a character like Ghost you never know who is going to make it to the next issue.  You never know what is going to happen to the main character.  Ghost is not locked into tradition or an archetype so she can evolve as a character.  Superman has changed little in the last sixty years and Ghost has evolved more in the last six issues than most character ever will.  This book is intense Ghost ends up in another situ...

Free is Good 0

Hey what do you want?  The comic was free.  I like books like this that give a taste of what they have to offer.  Especially the smaller companies because they introduce comics that you may not even heard of.   The problem with this one however is there was nothing here that made me want to buy another book.  Let's face it that is the point of giving the comic away in the first place.  Each section of the book (and there were many) was really choppy.  I had no idea who any of these charac...

No World So Dark 0

Another great issue of the Ghost.  Things get even creepier as two of Ghost's biggest nemesis are merged together.  This issue sets up the next issue perfectly.  It is a transition from the past story to the new one and yet it leaves you transfixed on each page.  Ghost is a very strong female character.  There is a lot to like about how she handles herself and her powers.  Every power she has seems to have some sort of drawback or danger so there is a price to be paid in everything she does.  Th...

Don't Blink 0

You cannot blink while reading a Ghost book because there is a new reveal and surprise around every corner.  I have read several Ghost books and have never been disappointed.   This is filled with mystery and suspense.  I can't wait to read the next book. This character walks the line of a vigilante.  She is right there between superhero and murder.  I mean this very complimentary.  She is not killing every bad guy she bumps into but she is willing to put a stop to murderers.  She is also able t...

No More Painkiller 6

The cover price for this book was 25 cents.  Finally I have read a Painkiller Jane book that was worth what I paid for.  Obviously I didn't like the issue.  The characters in the book are again just dumb enough to fall for everything that comes down the line.    The police are the worst in this book.  A depiction of a crooked cop would be more flattering then these knuckle heads.  It was if you had the cops from the Dukes of Hazzard bugling around in a tremendously violent situation.    Then the...

Sister vs Sister? 0

This series is like a double-shot of grapeshot from a Civil War cannon.  It that is two obscure let me say this.  This book explodes with a bunch of fantastic stories that pull the reader in many directions.  As a reader you squirm in your seat laugh and enjoy every page of this book.    This and the last Ghost series are both masterpieces.  These books are tremendous and show a woman in a very strong heroic role.  There is nothing one dimensional about these characters or storylines.  It is lik...
