She sat on her knees holding him in her arms letting the tears fall from her eyes freely. Her blood covered shirt clung to her chest as she heaved in and out with every couch and cry. The ice blue eyes of her husband looked off into heaven and his body lay limp in her lap. Chaos and action exploded around her, but none of that seemed to matter as she held him. With gentle care she lowered her love onto the ground and looked at her red stained hands. Thoughts of her children learning their father had fallen rushed to her and she started to shake with panic.
“No.” She whispered so quietly that no one could ever hear. “No…” Her voice grew stronger as she started to walk past them all as they fought. “NO!” Her voice echoed across the battle field.
Flash
She turned to see them all. The blood hung in the air, the bullets froze in place. She could see Hunters hands around the mouth of the big werewolf. They were all frozen in time. Slowly she walked through the battle a gory scene filled with blood and death. She walked until she came back to her man lying on the floor, all but forgotten. With a swipe of her hand she moved time, with the ease of a remote control. Further and further she went back until she was in his cell sitting in the darkness.
“You shouldn’t use your powers like this Mani. You know you can break things.” His calm deep voice boomed in the tiny cell. Her eyes filled with tears hearing his voice again. “I couldn’t let it….” But he cut her off as she spoke. “So I can be killed.” He lay there looking up to the ceiling holding a picture of a young boy and his grandmother. He couldn’t get the words out of this head. Your still a hero to some! Written on the back of the photo.
They spoke for hours arguing about the cost of a life to the world. He couldn’t imagine how the world could be a better place with him a killer on it. The argument went back and forth, back and forth until. “Enough! Let me show you the cost of one man’s life….” She grabbed his arm and her eyes lit up with fire. “Mani nooooo……” But his words were too late. The light overtook him.
He opened his eyes to a jungle that he recognized immediately. It was 1969 in the jungle of . They watched from a distance a young man was getting more and more entrenched into enemy territory, soon he would be over run and taken. “Do you know who that is…?” She asked him coolly. He looked at her and gave the best answer he could. “Just another dead solider” No sooner had the words left his lips then a winged figure flew over head slashing his way through the enemy, leaving the young man standing in awe. “Congratulations you just saved surgeon.” Once again his eyes were blinded by the light.
They stood on a high hill looking down onto an open field. The crackle of lightening filled the air and a god fell from the sky. “This is the day you saved one of Earth’s greatest heroes.”
In a hospital room, he could hear the screams of pain coming from a familiar voice. Hawk turned to look at her stunned that he would bring him here. His eyes filled with tears when the woman’s cries of pain were replaced by the cries of a baby. “What is one life worth to those who live it with you?
They were back in his cell and he sat with his head in his hands. She whispered in his ear and pushed him down onto the bed. “If this is our last night together, let’s make it last.” He took her and kissed her with passion as they intertwined with the sheets. The sweat and the heat pour off the two lovers. Hawk’s mind flooded with memories of their first date, their wedding, and their kids. Morning would come soon and he would face his excruciation.
She disappeared before morning and starting moving through time. Every step was the same, every turn and choice he made was leading him back to his death. She watched as the men lined up and he stood there with his hands held wide. A tear ran down her face as the guard yelled “FIRE!” She had failed. She watched out of the time stream as he took the bullets and blood misted out of his back. She watched herself run into the area and scream.
But then she noticed something that she hadn’t before, the wounds on his back closing almost as fast as they had opened. Everything moved in slow motion as she slowed down time to look. His body was healing though the bullets riddled it. Once again she watched as Hawk’s body hit the floor and died. Mani looked on with concern watching until she heard her past self covered in a blood soaked shirt stop time.
She watched her past she and as soon as the other was gone Mani appeared again grabbing Hawk bye the wrist and with a flash Hawk and Mani were gone.
