The comic to read over skeptics 0

This chapter's interactions between Peter and Johnny STorm should really be enough to tell sell people on this series: it's basically the Arlong Park or Chunnin Exams of it. Spiderman quips yes, he's still a wise cracker, but you also see him serious and mature. He cares for people and has forgotten it. Read this before you start on Slott for something he may or may not do please. ...

So this is the All New Slott-erman? 0

I must admit, this review is not only this issue, but for all of them up to Clone Conspiracy's start. I have seen so much talk about Slott I was expecting New 52 Teen Titans.... But imagine my surprise as I read this, and I feel Spiderman fully. Really, the Spider is strong in this one. He quips, but he can be serious. Did Comicvine miss those moments? So, I offer this review of Issues 1-15: Good. Great. Excellent. ...

Easily the best film in Phase 2 0

Where do I begin.....This is the Phase 2 film we've all wanted The writers may have been comedy writers, but this...this....this was better than the first one. It is also a film that really felt like it is trying to set something up. Not only Avengers 2, but another future movie. It will also have reprecussion that will be felt wide, as oppose to the somewhat compact ones in Iron Man 3 and Thor Dark World. The twists were pretty unexpected, and the mid credit scene the best since Thanos in Ave...

2 is better than 1 0

Everyone is hating these days Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and, from what I have heard, Wolverine were all decent films that get a lot of flack, for the simple reason they are not The Avengers.Well to that, I say that not every film can be that good, this film is good. It's better than the original if you ask me.The Final Battle was better, the emotions were more real, and you really got into the characters heads. As always, Loki was great that way, but so was Thor. And the Collector.....quite a goo...

DC's stand in for 2013's Hero Film 1

2013 continues the Hero Wars between movie studios. Iron man 3, Man of Steel and the Wolverine all give decent tellings (the last two being vast improvements on earlier ones), though it is really a war between Iron Man and Man of Steel.Iron Man 3, I admit, probably did better story wise, and sales wise, but for a debuting hero who did not have a perfect casted person like Downey to play him, Man of Steel does a good job.It sets foundations for a world where Superman and Batman can exist via cam...

Good long tale that does not do for trade 0

Writing for Trade: writing stories that wrap up in 6 odd issues.Loved by Marvel, less common in DC.This is definitely not written for trade. The story features lengthy overlying plot, that I don't always catch if I don't look here. James Robinson manages to recreate characters who normally would be overshadowed in historic value by the big four old comic golden heroes: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Zoidberg/Captain AmericaHis writing style means that you would not get a truly satisfactory r...

Begins to Reascend 0

This series....needs a new writer. The Legion guy is good, only in the Legion. However, in this issue he did a decent enough job, and the characters feel a bit more......themselves. The return of the Power Window probably helps. If DC wants to keep this title going, they need a new writer. While it is picking up, it would be best if someone who is good with writing those two takes hold. Paltimoni is probably too busy, and Gail has three titles around once Sonja starts up.DC and Marvel.....what ...

And so the story continues 0

In about 4 or so months, The Trinity War begins. To do that, Geoff and Jeff need to set up the teams in conflict with one another. The Trinity of Sin may be a major part, but they need to come into conflict some other way. And who better to begin anger than the mysterious intruder who just stole from the Batman himself, and who seems to be working with DCU A list bad guy....well you can probably guess if you see the character list or read the actual story. I happened to find the characterizati...

Two atmospheres of comic 0

This is AVXThis is where the Avengers and X-Men need to be trying to rip each other apart.Or blast each other with magic energy like Hope and Scarlet did.Squirrel Girl hijacking reality with puppets was a bit disturbing.Though credit to Hawkeye having the dream of Spiderwoman vs the X-Ladies. Nice touch. Someone do send me the image.Edit, found it.I do appreciate the humor though this issue was filled with: Level 15 guilt tripper Captain America vs Level 16 rebel Hope was nice for example. All in...

First Superman title doesn't dissapoint 0

I admit it, this is my first Superman comic, and how do I enjoy it.First, while I was never a Wildstorm guy, I happen to think Helspont works quite well as a superman villain, due to the simple fact that he is strong enough to actually fight him. As the strongest hero, Superman needs the strongest villains in comparison or at least the kind who can counter his strength otherwise. Lex works well, so does Doomsday, but here we have someone with Lex's minions and planning with the power level of Do...

Its not perfect, but this issue is the first block to the future 0

You can't have a civil war without build up. Tension between the North and south existed since even before 1775.What Geoff was doing with Graves wasn't to make a lasting villain, but create the first spark. it created the tension on the team that would lead to a splitThe tension in the team that being attacked by their ghosts and fears is a good way to start. Also, the Kiss. If you read to the end, you see why that has importance. Its not the romance that is important, its the fact that it looks ...

Has potential 0

......haven't done a review in a while because people always flame what I say, but I think this story has potential. Young Heroes are always hard to work with.......people seem to still think all there stories are Teen Titans after Infinite Crisis.I won't say the Culling was the Court of Owls...or all that riveting, but each comic will have good arcs, and bad arcs. The culling was......in between. Now however, the story may continue as a new team enters the DC universe....can the new heroes make ...

The powerful return of Power Girl 3

The comic was quite a nice read, particularly if you have already read Earth 2.....This series really does a good job at showing them off. I never read Mr. Terrific or Huntress, but from my understanding of the characters it shows them off in a interesting light where we see her note how young this Kal-El Is. Wonder if Helena will get a chance to comment on her father/half brother/adopted brothersThe only reason its not five stars.....POWER GIRL LACKS SOMETHING. Two things actually....visible th...

The Omen of the Culling 0

You know, the art was off today...must be a different penciler. Seeing as they were trapped in a water like space, or Lilith's mind, that can actually be looked at as canonical art shifting.Sort of neatAnd what a smorgosboard of stuff we got today. (how do you spell that anyway?). Black Canary's husband, Amanda Waller, Team 7, and a Titan who Starfire dreamed of recalling.Does that mean she was still a Titan? What happened to her?We see a lot of character development, with Cassie's power shown t...

Better..... 1

....but still not the same action we saw while fighting Darkseid. The green arrow bit is interesting, it shows off the ideas of the Justice League, and uses some DCaU elements of the Green Arrow character.Though the good elements are what happens behind the action of Green Arrow. We see the Talons attacking the Justice League, establishing the series timeplace in the storyWe see Amazo, a true foe to the Justice League, unlike SporeAnd we see that the Martian Manhunter nearly did join the Justice L...

Static; a Memorial 0

A way to end a series killed by bad writers, this comic really should have been earlier on, it would have taken care of the problem of how the old writers did not go and explain Static's past for new fans. However, the use of various old Static looks, his original and the one that made him famous in the Cartoon series (And should have been used in the series), is good, as well as using images of old Milestone faves Icon, Holocaust, and even Dusk.....the last one in particular was unexpected.Liste...

Shippūden like filler 0

Naruto, the character whose series I am using for comparrisonWhy does this review have a Naruto based title? It simple really, for having relevant filler.Filler, its something no one likes yet helps flesh out the universes. Some fillers such, some are actually good. For example, the original series of Naruto's anime's filler arcs are generally bad (Tea country excluded), while Shippūden's fillers are generally good, because they expand on the plot of the real series. In this comic, we see Static ha...

A milestone event 0

The comic has its main points for introducing Hardware and Technique in battle and for the end of the very erratic storyline that doomed this comic. Its look at the psychology of heroes, such as Hardware, is also good. However, Hardware and Technique probably confused the heck out of comic fans who are new to them. They probably more expected Gear to appear than those two. However, all in all its one of the better comics this series, and I can only hope that Static has more appearances later. For th...

Shows how cross comic plots can be of issue 0

Okay, I will admit that this was not the best Teen Titan comic...but blame Superboy for it. No, not Superboy the character, but his comic itself, as you need to have read pretty far into it to understand it.As to me, I only have Superboy 1, which is because I am alloted only four comics a week, and as Justice League and Teen Titans are perenial picks for myself (Static shock would be too if the shop would restock a #6...or should I just grab 7,), that leaves me only 14 other comics a month, assu...

A hard pill to swallow 0

Why did I buy this comic? My only real reason I know about them...aside for JLUBecause of the culling...and because I have a friend who loved the showI can't really say the comic delivered. I was never a big fan of the legion idea, and I was more lost on the comic than I should have been.Though points for mentioning the Flashpoint in the comicAnyway.....this comic seems worse than Static Shock....then why isn't it getting the axe?Though....Dawnstar is attractive, and Timber Wolf seems to be an in...

A rocky start to the next story arc 0

Sometimes the bridge to greatness is shakyThis comic is like thatIt lacks the high action that it had in the first issues. Personally, JLI is a more entertaining read than this one if all the chapters have this, despite Batman's mutteringThe spore character is a bit.....well he's not really the kind of villain the JL is supposed to fight. A solo hero could have handled him, and his sort of science based form means that even two of the cancelled guys; Mr. Terrific and Static, could have taken him...

Plays with the strengths of the New 52 0

The New 52 continues to show itself in form in this issue, showing off a world where heroes do not just become friends, a world where the Government does not like heroes, and a world where people make fun on a surprisingly kick ass Aquaman.Perhaps this is why Namor generally keeps to himself?Anyway, the one thing I have to wonder is, why Cyborg? What about Cyborg had him become the new Justice League Member.Cyborg's a good hero, but why make him a Justice League? I mean, if they wanted an Africa...

Revision yet keeping in touch 0

This comic pretty much sums up the New 52Revision yet keeping in touchFirst it shows off a bit of a redone origin, with Kyle's first meeting with Ganthet being a little differentIt also highlights how Kyle is underrepresented (With the little boy who says Hal is cooler)And of course, it starts a new story with the mystery of the rings...but without a hobbit to itKyle, however, keeps his creative character, as seen with his constructsBut of course...life gets complicated when the rings hunt him d...

Can this series fill me in? 1

I was never a Blue Beetle fan initially, I first heard of him from watching Batman, the Brave and the Bold, and from seeing him in a few Teen Titans comics. I never really grasped his potential, until one episode. In Brave and the Bold, the episode where Batman turns into a Vampire, he is one of the only two members of the J.L.I, along with the always awesome Martian Manhunter, successful at fighting a VAMPIRE BATMAN! And I mean, Alucard like Batman.....not sparkle sparkle Batman. He still got a b...

Did anyone else see Rocket? 0

A fine issue, showing off the characters once more, giving Wonder Woman some depth as to why people would dislike her....the god comments and all. The team up continued, and we again get some humor at Bat's expense.Apparently, Flash thinks Batman's a vampire. And the story continues with two themes of the e New 52, heroes are distrusted and Aquaman is cool.Scary, isn't it.I cameoedAlso, did anyone else notice little Raquel, who Diana met while getting Ice Cream. That's the name of Rocket, wonder...

Poking fun in a good way 0

This Aquaman did beat up Wonder Woman.....This chapter pretty does more for the fish guy than decades of comic books and cartoons. No 'OUTRAGEOUS', no fish people....he is shown to have some tricks. His armor repelled bullets, his trident stopped a full speed car, and people took joke shots at him for being 'just able to talk to fish'.We saw his hot wife, he gave up his kingness...and a bunch of creepy villains attacked. And he came to Boston....GO NEW ENGLAND!...

A fine new Batman 0

Does anyone else find it odd that the Batman of the poorest continent has a very high tech armor.....Oh, just me.Well, the Batwing shows himself off quite well, dealing with crime in a Gotham city gone Africa. You have mobsters, corruption....well he has his work cut out for himThat's ignoring the Massacre guy who has it out for heroes and the Batman Incorporated stuff. With the New 52 Xing out Static and Mr. Terrific, Batwing is the only african to be holding onto a title of his own.....and he d...

A good read 0

This comic continues to explore the past of Dick Grayson, in particular his relation with those in the circusAfter all, most comics focus on him and the bat.....It showed that not all of the circus folk are friendly with our Robin number 1, Bryan being the top example. There is some sappy romance scenes, a bit of drama....well he is pretty much Bruce 2....what do you expect?Honestly, he may be as bad as the Bat; Starfire, Batgirl, Raya.....and that's just the full girlfriend thingSaiko, however, ...

A bit of stagnation 0

I am a static FanI liked the showI like the characterBut even I have to admit, the New 52 made some mistakes here. It has some highpoints....Static showing evolution in his powers is an interesting concept...a bit X men, but still it keeps the character from stagnatingThe use of Hardware as a mentor is an unexpected, but all and all not bad an idea. The use of other Milestone characters; Dr. Nemo and Technique, is also commendableIt shows the New 52's manor of distrust towards heroes quite well, ...

A change of pace 0

The Supergirl series is redoing the intro arc of Supergirl as shown in the Superman/Batman comic demostrated Supergirl's return to canon after years of being totally wiped from main canon. In it, Supergirl accepted the fact she was on a new planet and her cousin was no long a baby quite readily....First time flyingThis time, however....she goes and punches him, calls him an impostor, and pretty much punches here way across central Asia until she calms down and explains.I'd call that an improvemen...

A brilliant start 0

An excellent beginning to the new 52, the series begins to show off several of the concepts of the New 52That heroes aren't trusted, see Batman, Green Lantern and Superman as referred to in conversationThat the heroes are young, Batman is just starting his long, complicated 'friendship' with SupermanOf new beginnings, with Cyborg as the show child for itI also like how they aren't making a completely new enemy, for while the New 52 does make some new characters that are great.....it is hard to m...

Fixing a....problem 0

Perhaps this comic did not delve into a lot of plot. Perhaps it did repeat the Introduce Supergirl thing. Perhaps it did change her personality again. But, you could say it also gave her a bit more.....closure.Unlike Power Girl, perverts look down instead of upLets face it....flying around in a skirt isn't a good idea. So many perverse comments are just waiting about it. However, the more standard super heroine get up she has now makes it so she no longer has that concern.Perhaps this will be a ...

An excellent revamp 0

The Teen Titans that used the characters Tim Drake, Cassandra Sandsmark, Bart Allan and Solstice, at its end, overextended itself. It could not capture the older styles. Too many characters died and too many changed in and out too fast. It could not recreate the powerful foes that cursed the best Titans; Trigon, Deathstroke, Terra (Number 1)There are hints that the first Teen Titans, in some form, did exist (See Red Hood Outlaws #6)But with the New 52, the baggage can be cleaned out. They know w...

Wonder Woman seems to be taking on a few Percy Jackson elements 0

When did DC take after him?Percy Jackson...a well known Book series where the main characters are demigods. Is it rubbing off on DC? One of the most popular of the new 52, Wonder Woman depicts the Olympian Family as divided, with the men being rather womanizing...at least Zeus and Hermes are. Hera, angry, attempts to kill one of Zeus's mistresses with Centaur monsters, nearly killing Hermes before Wonder woman appears. How you kill a God.......its a strange thought.Despite this thought, and the ...

Not 100 volts, but still powers the reader's thought bulb 0

A better time for lightning get upsLets face it, the very idea of moving a hero to a new location rarely ends well. Batman does not work well in Malibu, Superman is not welcome in Pyongyang, so on. Static should have been in Dakota, dealing with the threats there. After all, Bang Babies with powers leave nearly endless possibilities for new villains. Also, his old look was betterSee, a bang baby...what Static should be fightingWell, you do run into Guillotina later, but that's another story.Howe...

A brilliant array of Abilities 0

This comic brilliantly shows off the combat abilities of all the teen characters; Superboy, Kid Flash, Solstice, Bunker, Wonder Girl and Red Robin. The battle demonstrates not only their powers; explaining Bunker's bricks, Superboy's tactile telekinesis (Still, it is less confusing if you are familiar with that part of Superboy's history) and Red Robin's skills, with he alone nearly defeating the cloned Kryptonian-Human hybrid, it also shows off the characters personalities and how it affects th...
