Ranking DCEU Movies

For those of you who like these movies, more power to you. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I think they are pretty shitty aside from the one that is on the top of the list. Either enjoy the list or have fun complaining about my bias. Have fun!

List items

  • Wonder Woman is pretty much the only good DCEU movie, objectively speaking. I would go as far as to say that it would be one of my favorite comic book movies of all time if only the villains were a bit better and if Steve Trevor's death was executed a bit better. But the real weakness of this movie is the finale, where Ares shows up and pretty much ruins everything. Regardless, I still really like this movie. One of the best DC Comics movies in my opinion, surpassed only by Nolan's Batman trilogy.

  • Man of Steel is Warner Brothers' new take on Superman. As the first movie to kick this new Universe off, this "attempt" not only fails as the beginning of this Universe but it fails as a Superman movie. It is mostly disrespectful towards Superman's character more than anything else, and it is an insult to everything this comic icon stands for.

That said, there are few good things about it. The action and fight scenes are cool. Zod is pretty badass and even relatable villain despite the fact that he has few Nicolas Cage level over the top moments. Faora was also pretty cool too, and Jor-El is surprisingly enjoyable to watch. While I think this movie sucks, it is my second favorite DCEU movie simply because it is the only movie that I think could be better if they changed few things here and there.

  • While BvS is in my opinion more entertaining to watch than MoS and is not as boring, and while I think it has more qualities than MoS, this movie has A LOT more flaws than MoS. Like I said above, MoS could be pretty good if they just changed few things. This movie COULD NOT BE fixed. Even if you remove all the unnecessary JLA easter eggs, pathetic excuse for live action interpretation of bald ego maniac, giant nonsensical CGI nightmare and useless attempt to gain views by killing Superman, THIS MOVIE WOULD STILL SUCK!

Why? This movie is made for one reason and one reason only. Fan service. Snyder and Warner Bros. wouldn't patient enough to introduce their own Universe, so they decided to gain extra views by having Superman and Batman show up in the same movie and fight. A dream come true for all Comic lowers, and I feel bad for hardcore Batman and Superman fans because they are stuck with this piece of shit. The main reason why Batman vs. Superman dynamic works is because they know each other and experienced so much. They have a lot of similarities but their philosophies are different. They have different view of the world and that is why them fighting is so great. This is just bad for so many ways. Add to the fact that Superman himself still suffers from his "trying to be dark" syndrome and Bat-Killer isn't any better either.

  • Suicide Squad is just one of those movies. Is there anything good about it? No, not at all. Is there anything bad about it? Yes but not by much. This is one of those movies you joke about because of how funny it is. There is absolutely no reason for this movie to be made. This team was obscured and it stayed obscured. Making a movie about them is as bad as Sony trying to make Sinister 6 movie for their now dead ASM franchise. The only reason why this movie is made is for fanboys to get excited by seeing Harley Quinn, which is the only ok part of this movie aside from that shooting scene with Deadshot.

Oh and the best DC villain and arguably the best Comic Book Villain of all time is forgettable psycho with metal teeth and tattoos who has zero characteristics of the original character that makes him so awesome, scary, popular and interesting.

This movie doesn't have as much flaws as BvS or even as much as MoS, but that's just because this movie has nothing. That's why it is below BvS. Because BvS at least gives you something to look at. Who was the villain of this movie again?

  • Yes, Justice League is by far the worst DCEU movie, and the reason why is a bit more complicated than you would think. In philosophy is this: every single DCEU movie prior to this one at least tries. Despite how bad and incompetent they are, they still had potential, mostly with MoS. BvS sucks but despite all the forced Comic Book trope, there is/was clearly a lot of love and care for these characters, or else they wouldn't bother to include all the references, badass fight scene, Batman's DKR armor and so on. They are bad but they try to be good.

Justice League doesn't try to be anything but the most forced Comic Book live action adaptation ever, and it does not know whether it wants to be a sequel to MoS and BvS or try to apologize for all the bad things in previous movies by pretending they never happened and giving us a different lore and characteristics of already established characters.

For example, in BvS, Batman was similar to his Dark Knights Returns self. Older, broken and tired man who's dark, aggressive and brands and even kills criminals. In this movie, he watched his lake from his mansion, desperate without the beacon of hope that is now dead Superman. Oh yeah, Superman. Superman went from depressed, hopeless, reckless maniac to more optimistic and hopeful self (with CGI lips, Jesus...). And that's great. But the problem is, THAT'S NOT SUPERMAN THEY GAVE US! I get they want to fix their mistake but this change comes from nowhere. They just want to force this Superman in and hope it makes it good. It does not, and the fact that this world suffers so much due to lack of hope that was Superman is just astonishing. Who wrote this movie? Superman was NEVER a beacon of hope in DCEU. He was reckless idiot and EVERYBODY HATED HIM. That was the whole point of BvS and that is how Batman got introduced in this Universe. The continuity between MoS/BvS and this movie add up less than Fox's X-Men movies.

Besides that, everything else is just a mess. Boring villain, bunch of fodders, forgettable Aquaman and Cyborg, and the only good thing in this Universe (Wonder Woman) barely being used.

The worst part of this movie for me is the Flash, and I don't think I have to tell you why. Any person who ever picked up a Flash comic would know that whoever Ezra Miller plays is not Barry Allen. Hell, not even Wally West and Bart Allen act like this. Apparently Snyder and Warner Bros think Barry Allen is some weird combination of black Wally West, Miles Morales and Peter Parker from Ultimate Spider-man cartoon.

Really enjoyed your list, and I can't stress how glad I was you included your reasonings. Too many people just list them without including reasonings, which is boring to read.

My personal ranking, best to worst:

  1. Wonder Woman: I rewatched this movie yesterday and it's still one of my favourite superhero movies. I honestly think Gadot is up there with Reynolds, Downey and Jackman in terms of perfectly cast CB characters. It's just an old-fashioned CBM about heroism, hope and sacrifice. I love most CBMs, but that aspect seems to be an afterthought to a lot of them. And it features the best romance in a CBM. I love the smaller moments such as the boat scene and the dance between Diana/Steve. Just an all around inspiring movie, great adventure and great romance.
  2. Batman v Superman: There's a big gap between WW and this. Here's the thing. I don't think this movie is bad. Disappointing? Yes. Should it have been better? Definitely. But expectations aside, It's simply mediocre. It's clunky, the titular fight is terrible, Superman is badly written, building up the conflict between Supes/Bats proved useless because Supes ultimately fights him to save his mother and the resolution to the fight was badly executed. It's a very flawed film, but not bad, as it has aspects I like - cinematography is gorgeous, Batfleck is great, the warehouse sequence is amazing, all overall it's not as incompetent people make it out to be.
  3. Man of Steel: This movie is not good. This is gonna sound unpopular, but this is worse than BvS. Themes such as "how will humanity react to Superman?" are taken nowhere, themes in general are terribly handled and structured (Clark is showing saving people in his first scene, before it even sets up the conflict of Clark saving people being dangerous), pacing is awful and the flashbacks are terribly handled. I've literally written paragraphs upon paragraphs explaining why it's so garbage from a storytelling/structural standpoint. It has a great score, some great action and some scenes are very stylish, but the storytelling is too garbage to compensate.
  4. Justice League: This movie is just nothing. It has no soul. Then again, I'm hesitant to even call it a movie - it's more of a Frankenstein of a product. Superman's CGI moustache is laughable, there are a lot of scenes with zero buildup: they just begin and end. The CGI is like a PS2 video-game at some points, the red-sky in the climax was awful, the reshoots were poor quality: looked like a porn parody at points, Batman was turned into a joke, the pacing is garbage and Lois was at her worst here. What a shitty excuse for the first live-actin JL movie.
  5. Suicide Squad: If it weren't for Fant4stic, I would genuinely say Suicide Squad is the worst movie I've ever seen in cinemas. The pacing is dreadful - I can't believe the first 20 minutes was actually character intros and flashbacks, the editing is awful on a micro and macro level (I highly recommend this video), Killer Croc and Katana don't do shit, Enchantress is a dreadful villain, the dialogue in this movie is laughably bad, the colour grading is awful, Diablo sacrifices himself and is forgotten about, Slipknot is killed without a proper introduction, the music is terribly implemented and Jared Leto's Joker is the most cringe-worthy thing to come out of the DCEU. I'm trying to think of something I liked, but.... I'm genuinely struggling. I guess some of the casting choices were good?

Must give credit to this handsome hunka hunka. This is both hilarious and true. Though if the fanboys see you giving Justice League so much lip it may cause a Pa Kent tornado to come down on you.

@lubub55 Why tho? Because of order, reasoning or the fact that I made this list?

@major_hellstrom Thanks, and what would your ranking be like?

@higherpower@_kingoflatveria Glad you liked it.

@apex_pretador Warner Brothers released only five movies that are a part of the DCEU. This is a DCEU ranking thread so it is meant to contain all the movies that are a part of that universe. Justice League is top 5 because we can't go further than top 5.

@jrupert1 If they want to complain about me complaining, I welcome them with opened arms. I said that myself in the OP. If they have a problem with it, that just proves they can't be objective and show nothing but bias, because I strait up said that if someone likes these movies, they have full right to like them and that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

@stellaris A lot of people on internet and even Comic Vine think that Wonder Woman is a mediocre movie. I personally think it's above average/good, but again, that's just my subjective opinion.

@krleavenger: On an overall movie score, I wouldn't say almost any CB movie is something amazing. I don't think many CB movies, outside of a select few are actually great movies from a non comic book view of things.

Great list though. I haven't seen MoS or SS to say where they rank for me though.

Why? Does it break any language rules? It does not. Is it provocative? Not really. Is it meant to antagonize anyone? No it is not because I strait up said that I'm fine with people who like these movies and everyone who feels that way is entitled to their own opinion.

But just like they have right to love them, I also have right to complain about them.

Give me one good reason why this should be locked. Because there is nothing wrong with criticizing something you don't like, especially if that something is an interpretation you consider to be inaccurate and disrespectful towards stories and characters you really like.

@stellaris: Technically from non comic book movie perspective, most of Comic Book Movies aren't that great, I agree. But same goes for most "geeky" movies. They are made to accurately represent what they are based on while also provide it in a way relatable to comic book fanbase and non comic book fans. Although like you said, there are some Comic Book movies that can be called "amazing" even by non comic book fan's perspective.

Glad you enjoyed it. I also prefer when people give reasons. Although most users who don't bother to type in anything is because they know that a lot of people are too lazy to read, which is unfortunate.

Also pretty cool list. It's not that different from mine. You just exchanged BvS and MoS, and Suicide Squad and the Justice League.

Gal Gadot is definitely one of the better ones. She captures Diana's best side as a person. Not the arrogant and annoying one she has become ever since she killed Maxwell Lord.

Don't forget Riddler, I mean the Joker, I MEAN Lex Luthor.

Oh right, the pacing of this movie is also awful.

Justice League: This movie is just nothing. It has no soul. Then again, I'm hesitant to even call it a movie - it's more of a Frankenstein of a product.

Couldn't say it better myself. It is made just to be there. It wasn't made to be good, hell even decent film.

I don't remember a single form of dialogue from Lois in that movie. She just appears from nowhere.

The only good thing is the casting choice yes. And thanks for the video. I'll check it out.

I kind of get what you mean by Justice League being the worst. Don't get me wrong, Suicide Squad sucks, but Justice League had the most potential and was squandered so painfully. Not just that, but at least Suicide Squad is somewhat enjoyable with how cringy and awful it was, but Justice League was just boring & forgettable mostly.

Oh yeah, you hit the nail on the head with your rant on Ezra Miller's "Flash"

@mutant1230: Exactly. Suicide Squad was always a lackluster team popularity wise and story wise. It was never that noticeable or popular aside from few exceptions. Justice League is a big deal composed of the most popular characters ever. So the fact that that movie is so bad actually makes it worse because making a movie about Suicide Squad already leaves room closed for anything but mediocrity at best. The fact that Justice League is so bad is just a crime, but Suicide Squad is bad because it can't be that good, simply because those characters are just not for the lead roles for a movie.

Oh yeah, you hit the nail on the head with your rant on Ezra Miller's "Flash"

I like the fact that you put quotation marks there.

==========================================================================

@all-father: That also makes sense. Honestly, I didn't feel that way for Suicide Squad because mostly I was trying to stay awake. For me, it wasn't even one of those movies you can laugh at.

@galactic_1000:I'm not too excited for Aquaman but I can be open-minded. We'll see what the movie will turn out to be. I hope Ocean Master show up. He's my favorite Aquaman villain.

@runekingthor98: Pretty much. Not sure about Wonder Woman being overrated tho. Most people seem to acknowledge the fact that the movie had some flaws related to villains and later on, Ares. The only people who do not acknowledge it (at least based on my personal experience) either don't care either way, or they are those people who defend these movies as "misunderstood masterpieces", and that is more of a standard DCEU wank rather than Wonder Woman movie wank. But again, this is mostly subjective due to different views and experiences with different users on this site.

By the way, it's good to see you post again. It's been what, a year+ since we had a conversation.

@krleavenger: The reason wonder woman is overrated is ,because its the only good dceu movie so the fanboys have to overrate it and say its a masterpiece. It was above average movie with horrible cgi and a trash villain.
