The Strongest

Let me tell you a secret brother. Of all of us, father made me the strongest,Physically, I have no equal amongst my siblings. In the sparring cages I used to hold back...especially against you, Konrad.

-Vulkan Lives

What is is a Primarch?

Primarchs are one of 20 sons of the God Emperor of Mankind. The God Emperor is the most powerful psyker in existence within the universe of Warhammer 40K. But what is a Psyker? Well essentially it is a mutant who exhibits certain degrees of psychic abilities within 40K.

No Caption Provided

However this is an umbrella term. Often used interchangeably with terms like sorcerer within 40K. Generally the more powerful the psyker, the more powerful and versatile they are in using psychic or magical abilities. Each Primarch inherits a unique combination of the God Emperor's genes and abilities.

These abilities stem from a place called the Warp. But what is the Warp? It is a realm that is beyond the material universe. It is beyond the concepts physics, time, space, etc. Also known as the Aethyr. It is the source of all magic and is everywhere. It has infinite potential, is immeasurable, infinite possibilities, even then the words are limiting.

"With the departure of the Ark Mechanicus, the infected wound of the translation point snapped shut as the tortured skein of what mortals blissfully accepted as reality reasserted its dominance. The aftershocks of so brutal a manipulation of the laws governing the physical properties of the universe would echo throughout the past and the future, for such concepts as linear time simply did not exist in the warp." - Priests of Mars

"That is how events are viewed from the chronology of the material universe. In the Warp, things are different, for the Immaterium is not bound by linear time, and events do not occur in a strict sequence of cause then effect. As his rival gods reckon it, Slaanesh has always existed in the Warp, and has yet never existed at all." - Codex Chaos Daemons 6th ED

"It is a roiling, howling maelstorm of force and energy, utterly unpredictable and not subject to the rational laws and linear flow of time in the way that physical reality is." - Horus Heresy Book I: Betrayal, pg 16

This grants Primarchs with basic resistances and haxes that all of them possesses. Such as being able to fight on the physical, spirtual, and mental level. So with this in mind you can with these inherited traits you can see that by the nature of his inheritance Vulkan would be exceptionally powerful in his own right. And as the quote above states

Vulkan

Vulkan, as you may have guessed, touts himself as the strongest physically. As he held back against his brothers in the sparring cages. to put this in perspective on just how strong Vulkan is we need to realize how strong the person he is talking to. Konrad Curze as a mere infant was able to survive the crash landing of his pod on the planet Nostromo. In which he crashed through the Adamantium crust of the world(the verse's strongest material) and ended up near the planet's core. Baby Konrad swam his way through this and made his way to the surface. Unscathed. As a baby.

Konrad also so happens to overpowered the Lion. He also fought Roboute Guilliman and the Lion at the same time.

‘Then I rejoice,’said Guilliman, ‘but I believe it is past time that the heretics paid a price. A blood price. I think it is past time that a devoted son put a heretic in the damned ground.’

‘Agreed, sevenfold,’said the Lion in a low, hunting voice. Curze faced them. He stood tall, taller than either of them – a stark figure of lean, long bones and hollowed frame. He looked like a starved giant, towering yet emaciated. His tattered, black cloak flowed from his shoulders to the ground like the furled wings of a wounded bird. His slender arms hung at his sides, the huge, slack power claws making his hands disproportionately long. He tilted his head back, his hair lank. He closed his eyes. ‘Brother,’ he said. ‘And you, brother. Come and get me.’

Guilliman surged forward. The Lion was faster. Guilliman was robust and dazzling, but the Lion was elegant. The Lion Sword described a buzzing arc in the air as it circled, leaving a bright afterimage briefly stamped on the vision of all the legionaries watching. The blade scythed at Curze’s head. He did not move. Then he was smoke.

The power claws of Curze’s right hand snapped out and drove aside the stinging bite of the Lion Sword. The claws of his left met Guilliman’s gladius and deflected it. Guilliman struck again, driven by fury, and cut through something. It was only shadow. Only the tatter of a cloak. Talons snapped back at him. He raised his shield. Razored claws ripped sparks off its surface and shredded its edges. Guilliman hacked again. Nothing. Shadow. Shadow!

The Lion rotated like a dancer, and swung the famous Lion Sword sidelong at Curze with a twohanded grip. Curze ducked, evaded, and rotated in turn, punching away Guilliman’s next strike as he did so. The Lion tilted and swung his sizzling blade in a strike designed to unseam Curze from the groin to the throat. But Curze was no longer there. He had flickered left and blocked the upswing. Then he smashed his hand into the Lion’s face. Blood burst from the strike. A talon had punched clean through the side of the Lion’s neck. The Lion reeled backwards, his hand clamped to the wound to staunch it. Some of his men mobbed forward in alarm. ‘No!’ the Lion yelled.

Guilliman slammed his ragged shield into Curze and drove him backwards. He stabbed twice with the gladius, rapidly, like a striking snake, and drew blood on the second jab. ‘Bastard!’ Curze hissed. His talons struck Guilliman and knocked him aside, leaving four long gouges in his chestplate. Guilliman recovered, sweeping in low with his blade, and then high on the return. Struck, Curze spun away and fell. When he rose, his right cheek was open to the bone. ‘Now we start in earnest,’ he hissed. ‘Now we finish in earnest,’ the Lion spat, coming at Curze with his sword ready.

-Unremembered Empire

To put this in perspective Roboute fought and killed the Bloodthirster Skarbrand. Skarbrand was able to smash through the hull of a Blackstone Fortress. These ships were able to withstand fleets of Imperial and Eldar ships shooting it. For perspective Imperial ships can put out multi continental levels of AP with there nova cannons and are capable of vaporizing continents. It required sustained barrages from the Phalanx to damage the Blackstone fortress. With the Phalanx having superior weaponry to Imperial ships. In summary Roboute defeated a daemon that is well above multi-continental AP and durability. And Konrad was beating the crap out of him. As for the Lion was able to fight with Leman Russ fairly Evenly. Leman and a weaker Magnus fought each other. In which there fight is described as planet shaking. As it caused earthquakes and storms. Mind you Leman says that he would lose only to Konrad, Sanguinius, and Horus(though Vulkan as previously he held back against everyone) Putting him and other Primarchs above Roboute. Of course Vulkan himself tanks a gravity weapon that puts the weight of a planet on him. However this same gravity weapons was also stated to have destroyed worlds as well. Meaning Vulkans physicals>Weight of planets/planet busting. Truly making Vulkan the Strongest physically of the Primarchs..

Endurance and Regeneration

Now this is where Vulkan shows his likeness to the Emperor the most. It is nearly impossible to put down Vulkan. Even going as far to say that he could come back from anything. He died repeatedly to Konrad when he was captured and tortured. But it got to the point where Vulkan would die and just come back a moment later. Matter of fact each time he dies, he comes back even faster after his brains were blown out. Showing a growth in his abilities. And he sure has died alot. Not even existence erasure can kill him(though this did result in him being a skeleton. Going as far to attempt to erase him at the atomic level) Even going further as to erase him from the Skein and the timeline. Complete existence erasure. ANd still killed Magnus despite being “killed.” He was walking away from the battle not long after. Due to his inherited immortality and his regeneration, he has died repeatedly and regenerated from it. Making Vulkan virtually impossible to kill in any matchup.

Udrulake

So this WARHAMMER is very much like other Weapons that were made by the Emperor such as his shield or his sword. Both of which can erase daemons from existence. You see, daemons are composed entirely of Warp energy. They are concepts as they are smaller bits of there respective Chaos gods which generally regenerate after being destroyed. And high concepts at that as the Warp actually transcends realspace. Thus a weapon of this calibur would be outright devastating against anyone who was hit by it.

The powers of Chaos hold sway over so many not because they represent some esoteric concept with rare appeal; no they are so insidious because they are precisely the opposite. With Khorne, it is the inherent nature of conflict and struggle.”Excerpt of Black Crusade: Tome of Excess

The citizens of the Imperium know full well that their lives will one day end and that many of their number will live with disease or other torments in the meantime, yet they drive this knowledge deep into the corners of their minds and bury it with dreams and ceaseless activity. Nurgle is the embodiment of that knowledge and the unconscious response to it. He is the hidden fear of disease and decay, the gnawing truth of morality and the power of defiance that it generates." - Codex: Chaos Daemons (6th ed.), pg 14

Realm of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned, page 185:

‘Why would a daemon cry out its name?’

The Emperor’s dark eyes flickered at his bodyguard’s choice of words. ‘They do so almost unceasingly. They emanate the concepts and moments of emotion that gave them form. Humankind interprets those emanations as sound – the shrieking and roaring you hear when you do battle with them. They are declaring what they are. You hear it as who they are.

-The Master of Mankind

Skill

Vulkan is a monster close combatant. We get this idea from his showings against 2 of 3 the most difficult Primarchs to face in a fight. One of which being a Daemon Primarch in Magnus the Red and the other being Konrad Curze. Both characters able have extensive foresight (precog). More impressively Vulkan actually held back against Konrad. Konrads foresight allowed him to see the fates of other Primarchs centuries before the futures occurred. It allows him to see different futures, and can combat others with Precog to an even degree. As for Magnus, he is simply almost omniscient. He was using his precog against Vulkan and still was taking hits from him. He too lost to Vulkan through the highest of difficulties. To add to this Primarchs have autonomous movement. Shown in Godblight.

"Though Magnus the Red has but one eye, few beings in the galaxy possess greater vision. The Daemon Primarch’s name is rarely penned even in those texts that detail the ancient history of the Imperium, for to inscribe it is to risk falling under his nigh-omniscient gaze." - Warzone Fenris: Wrath of Magnus, pg 32

"The brothers moved together. There was a split moment when they locked eyes. A pressure joined them, heavy enough to compress time. When they attacked, they did so without thinking. Abilities woven into their gene-code at the dawn of the Imperium saw to that."

-Dark Imperium Godblight

With this in mind Vulkan is highly underrated when it comes to melee combat.

Summary

So Gilgamesh has a monster of a combatant ahead of him. Im vaguely aware of Gilgamesh and what he has to offer in a fight. As he is famous for his busted offensive abilities if I remember correctly. He has to contend with the following:

  • Planet plus Strength, AP and Durability
  • Regeneration and immortality to the point that Existence erasure fails to kill Vulkan
  • A monster melee combatant
  • Can fight on every existential level
  • A conceptually erasing WARHAMMER that negates regeneration

There is other stuff to mention but this is the majority of what Gilgamesh has to deal with. Lets see if he can if he can defeat the son of the God Emperor of Mankind.

Out of principle, i think it's fine assuming it's due to a genuine concept and storyline-esque thing, and not added just to please the same crowd that was foaming and seething at JK Rowling for not being inclusive enough

agreed.
