@arkay74: one would think having a new search engine wouldn't interfere with the API but anything is possible here lol, the CBSi people love the API though so I'm sure the engineers would want to know if search is potentially messing with it.

I added some comments on the API issues in the GB thread. Hope they get all these search issues worked out soon. From reading the GB thread, sounds like the search changes are causing other issues here at CV.

The two specific things I've noticed is that searches of more then one word seem to not work corrrectly (if at all) right now. Have to keep a search to one word (and therefore get lots of results) for it to return much of any data. Also, dashes do not seem to work in a search either. So a search for spider-man fails, but a spiderman search works.

When adding some missing issues to star wars insider I accidently created issue 74 twice. Please delete one copy (doesn't matter which one).

Yeah I expect this was an "unintended consequence" to the move to the new domain and stuff. Probably some new security device that is on the gamespot servers that isn't on the original comicvine system.

What the comicrack people found (and is probably your problem as well) is that it looks like with the move to the new servers, a User-Agent field now appears to be required. It doesn't seem to matter what the user-agent is, but just that there is one. A request with no user-agent is getting the 403. Not sure if this is intentional or a bug, but seems to be what is causing the 403.

If you get your IP unbanned, for right now make the following changes to CVS.

1. Turn off "try to select comic automatically"

2. Do not use the "more covers" button

3. If you have turned on grabbing community ratings, turn this off.

I am real glad to see we seem to now be working together on a solution instead of seemingly being at odds with each other. Very refreshing.

@edgework: awesome. I'll pass that along. That seems to be the best long term solution for everyone.

@edgework: earlier you mentioned allowed us to make a central copy of the db that the actual scraper could then hit which would pull all those hits off your db other then requests to check for updates.

Is that a serious option for us to do? We have people ready to start building that almost immediately if we have the blessing to do so. Naturally the copy would only be for api calls.
