I completely understand your view point. I would be upset if they drastically changed something from a character I have followed for a long time. I was actually really upset, like many, when Marvel undid the Peter/MJ marriage but I have to admit that over the past year I have started to enjoy ASM again.
The reason I accept the changes that JMS is making is that with everything that is happening with the Batman, Flash, and Green Lantern franchises Wonder Woman is getting left behind. Wonder Woman is a book that does not sell well even though it has a loyal following. Even with Gail Simone on Wonder Woman sales for this comic continued to fall to just barely selling 30,000 copies which is horrible for a character that is considered to be part of the company's Trinity. DC needed something to revitalize this franchise and I think JMS is the one to do it, since I think he is a much better writer for Wonder Woman than he is Superman (Superman #700 and #701 were absolutely horrible).
And as for this issue I am going to admit that until Wonder Woman #600 I never read a Wonder Woman comic in my life. So Wonder Woman #600 and #601 are both my first Wonder Woman comics I have read and I got to say I liked them both. This issue was a fun read, which I cannot say the same for the awful Superman issues that JMS has been writing . Unlike his Superman issues JMS is not wasting time and clearly establishes what he is doing for the character to move on and get better and return to the character most know. I am very interested to see who was behind the whole change to Wonder Woman's history and why they did it. So for now I am adding Wonder Woman to my pull list for the first time ever.
Still I completely understand what you said in your review and I honestly hope that JMS is able to find a balance so between the old and new stuff so that this title keeps its older fans while attracting new ones.
