i hate cho being allowed to write for shanna because it seems like its less about writing the marvel character and more a way to indulge in his old jungle girl stories under the legitimacy of the marvel banner. and my biggest complaint isnt that she is drawn too cheesecake, its just that shanna is not a blonde, she has red hair. but jungle girl had blonde hair so shanna must mirror that in his eyes. as far as i am concerned, if he wants to draw jungle girl he should go back to drawing jungle girl. if he wants the prestige of working with marvel characters, he should represent them correctly.

sorry for dragging this up after a year and a half. I just noticed it after uploading a fixed cho-version of shanna and saw the link and felt like putting my two cents in.

first off, thor is thor whether he has the hammer or not. i rmember a friend who was a big thor fan from way back going on and on back in the day about how thor is more than just his hammer and it has been proved that he was capable of manipulating the storm even when it was sheared in two by the destroyers disintegrator beam back when thor was wear his weird 90s style costume and was hanging around with the high evolutionary after having turned his back on odin and asgard. he summoned the storm and called the lightning to him to fuse the two pieces of the hammer back together but the hammer was powerless before he did so, which means that thor has power over the storm even without it. maybe the hammer is just a convenience, allowing him to summon the power with but a thought rather than chanting or calling to it like casting a spell. but the point is, even without the hammer, he is a warrior god who has fought the hulk one-on-one without the hammer, can manipulate the weather, and is still an immortal of asgard.

so who is this woman committing identity theft just because she can pick up the hammer? because that is what she is doing by claiming his name as well as his hammer. she somehow stole the power and carries it around like his divine id card proving that she is thor even though anyone who knows him can just look at her and say, i know thor and you arent him.

plus as has been pointed out, the worthiness issue shouldnt even be a thing since odin promised that wouldnt happen anymore. guess he lied and we all are supposed to chalk that up to men lie and women deserve to take all their stuff and be better with it. i like the new diversity agenda at marvel, but this one really does go too far. hope it ends soon and they bring back fearless defenders.

can i just say that as a woman even i find this story to be nonsense. i get promoting a more female friendly environment for women but giving another heros power and even his name to a woman just to promote gender diversity is just piss poor writing. theres a lot of great new stuff going on at marvel these days, and i cannot wait to see how much of it unfolds......but i think i will pass on this title until they give thor his name and hammer back.

I dont mind her keeping the name but is there any chance she will ever go back to something even resembling her iconic black costume? If too much skin/sex appeal is what was wrong with the old costume, it could have been fixed by just covering her legs up so she's not in a bathing suit anymore.

The new costume looks more like a cross between a wetsuit and a star fleet uniform or something and I am just never going to like it.

Squirrel Girl for the win. she is faster, stronger, and more resourceful than the guy with the crime lab + weapons locker tucked into his belt. she not only schools Deadpool & Wolverine but has been recognized by SHIELD as one of the most gifted fighters ever, and thats coming from a guy who has fought side by side with Capt. America on many occasions so you know he knows what he is talking about. she defeats beings out of her power level with a little bit of luck but also because she takes a moment to check her trading card info to figure out their weakness and then capitalizes on it. she also has Batman outnumbered with the assist from her squirrels, and those little guys will lay down their lives for her. Can Batman fend off a small hoard of angry squirrels? Sure, but can he do so while they are being given coordinated instructions by a keen tactical mind rather than just swarming en masse at the same time that tactician is using their distraction to set him up for the fall?

the joke of Squirrel Girl's win list is that we (almost) never see how she accomplishes her victories, but that doesnt negate the victories. and they are in continuity no matter how much some people think its just a bad joke. but the point of those fights isn't about showing how great a fighter she is, they are just a backdrop for showing her character which is that she is a determined, unstoppable force for good with the sunniest of dispositions. and when it comes down to it, Batman is the darkest of DCs good guys, so this is really a battle of light and darkness. whoever said Squirrel Girl takes it because of cheerful disposition crushing Batman's brooding made the most compelling argument for Batman's defeat here.

besides initially underestimating Squirrel Girl, I think Batman would find himself hard pressed just to want to throw a punch or batarang at the seemingly harmless goofy character. she certainly would not be committing a crime or doing anything else that would make Batman fight as if his life depended on it, so for Batman it would be less about defeating a great threat and more about surviving the sudden onslaught of someone who would see his dark, broody, spooky nature as being a "very bad man."

Vixen + Hellcat = Hellvixen, the animalistic shape-changing former model, Mari Walker.

Squirrel Girl + Power Girl = Squirrel-Power Girl, the kryptonian mutant with power over squirrels.

Nightwing + Rage = Nightrage, the super strong former sidekick of Dark Claw, all grown up.

Bucky + Mr. Freeze = The Winter Soldier, former sidekick of Super Soldier who was believed dead but resurfaced after all these years after having been preserved in a special cryo suit.

@akbogert: agreed on Deadpool and fourth wall breaking. remember after Spider-Man: One More Day, Deadpool showed an awareness of Spidey having made a deal with Mephisto to save his Aunt May from dying and get his secret identity back. but I also agree with the original assessment that Batman wins 6/10 times. its close though, and I dont see either winning as guaranteed. Batman just has enough of an edge to win more often.
