I couldn't disagree more, and while there is a vocal minority (see above) alive and well on the internets, the sales of these big events speak for themselves, much louder than any fanboy whining too.

I think shared universe events are one of the biggest joys of comic book reading.  I feel I get more for my money, get to see all my favorite characters in one place, and experience A list artists and writers touching on characters they would never have the opportunity to work with if they only did solo series.

Boom!

Brightest Day - that's a given

Adventure Comics - the Legion Academy as drawn by Phil Jimenez is a huge win!

Tiny Titans- Don't usually get kiddie stuff but this issue is all Aqua-family so its a must for me.

Maybe Batman - I can't remember where this storyline is from last month so that isn't a good sign.

Lite week for this DC fan.

Wow a 3 issue mini-series!

Deathstroke had his own book for years (before your time I guess Sara) - 65 issues.
He already was the compelling anti-hero that DC is oh-so-desperately trying to return him to... after the atrocities they imposed upon his character in Identity and Infinite Crises.

I am totally looking forward to Flashpoint and its associated minis but not this one. In Slade's case, we've seen it all before...and it was better.

That's the question T!

One would hope that we wouldn't need any more "set-up" and that new projects would be launched for Aquaman, Deadman, Firestorm and maybe even the Hawks and Martian Manhunter (although fan interest in their BD storylines is low) but with recent FLASHPOINT teasers, I fear that we will be getting more "Wait and see..." from DC.

My pessimistic view with regards to Brightest Day is "You ain't seen nothing yet, nor will you!"  LOL

Its too soon T-Bone :)

If companies are going to make radical changes to character like WW, then they need to be committed to them on a long term basis, NOT FOREVER, but at least long enough to let the story grow and resolve itself organically.  While I am not a huge WW fan, and even less so with recent changes, I do support DC's effort to think outside the box and introduce this great character to a wider audience.

On a related note, I hate when DC/Marvel hype up the RETURN of characters that haven't been gone more than a month or so...Like Hercules and the Black Lanterns for example...How long were they gone, a minute?  Let the stories evolve guys!

@inferiorego:
On every fansite or board where I have seen a poll or discussion (including the NYCC DCU Panel), Aquaman always wins by a landslide in the "favorite" category for storyline in Brightest Day.  In the Geoff Johns panel at NYCC there were just as many questions about Aquaman, Mera, and Aqualad as there was about Green Lantern and the Flash.

It will not be a traditional super-hero team.

Its based on the concept of "the Batmen of Many Nations" and will probably be something like Bruce establishing a representative network of Batmen in different countries who will at times work together and at times independently.

One shining example of originality bears mentioning in this OFF MY MIND:

MERA is not and has never been AQUAWOMAN (as Geoff Johns reminded us in a cool moment from Blackest Night #3).  She has her own look, own powers, and own agenda and its what made her such a great compliment to Aquaman when she was created in the 60's, and perhaps why she is gaining a new fan base in Brightest Day.

I think its refreshing to find a female character that is not a riff on her male counterpart and here's to GJ for realizing this and capitalizing on it.  And just for the record, the original Aquagirl was a counterpart to Aqualad, not Aquaman.
