Like the waves and the tides of the Ocean, John is an ever-shifting amalgamation of personality, sometimes being as cool as Antarctic waters to being as crushing as the ocean floor. Living life in the harshness of the Oceans depths truly toughened the young prince making him much more rugged than most. He is unyielding in his views and immovable in his pursuits, making him one people bump heads with often. The good side of this is that he has a powerful moral compass causing him to stick with his friends to the end of any conflict, usually the last to fall. After being force-banished by the Atlantean people as a baby and being raised on the trench for most of his life, with only the guidance of his grandfather, John is resilient and able to adapt to most things. Once being brought back home John was faced with even more challenges which forced him to work 20x harder than most, causing him to have a strong drive for success, with him never fully accepting defeat. While he is a hero John understands the need of death, and if needed he is willing to take a life as a last resort, though he would rather choose to detain then to kill. John is extremely caring, and very friendly to those who prove worthy of his friendship

John does have his plague of faults though, such as his uncertainty when it comes to his right to rule, being thrust away from his people and doubted by the very men and women he was supposed to one day rule really put a dent in John’s self-esteem when he returned to Atlantis, he is able to look past his own insecurities and push forward for the future of the people.

Standing at 6’0, John is a sight to see by most, usually clad in Atlantean armor John has the appearance of a warrior even when not dressed for battle. Having a lean but muscular build the Prince boasts a form most yearn and dream for. John possess a quite literal divine set of eyes, that signifies his lineage, John’s eyes are a brilliant and vibrant shade of lavender, a trait that he inherited from his mother, who was a direct descendant of Poseidon himself, the Lavender signifies their royal heritage, while most Atlanteans have blue or green eyes. This is John’s one of John’s favorite physical traits about himself.

The Prince once boasted a wild set of blonde hair vibrant much like the sun but this is another trait that made him stick out against the rest of his fellow Atlanteans, so he dyed it black to make it match the rest of his brethren to attempt to offset his differences from them.

The last distinctive feature that John has is his set of tattoos. The tattoos signify his training and graduation of the Silent Academy of Mystic Arts, bolstering his tribal tattoos allow John to use his magical power to its full potential. Unlike most Atlantean magical tattoos, John’s don’t fade away when his power is dormant, so the Prince’s skin is decorated with ancient magical ink.

Biography:

Born in Atlantis John’s arrival into the world was supposed to be a happy one, a birth of a prince that would usher Atlantis into a new era of peace and tranquility and for several years it was just that. Though when word got out that Queen Xinera had mated with a human Atlantis went into an uproar, one that sent the undersea kingdom into discord, such chaos that the citizens revolted against Xinera, killing John’s father and forcing her hand, she could either kill the child, or watch as her Kingdom ripped itself apart in rage and Johnathan could still die. Praying to the gods that night the Queen was greeted by none other than her ancestor and patron god Poseidon himself. He advised Xinera to place the child into his care and to keep him hidden away from the outside world.

So placing the 3 year old toddler into the care of the God of the Sea the Earthshaker took John to the depths of the ocean where he drafted John's grandfather Atuna: The retired king to educate him. The great sorcerer taught the young prince literature and began instructing him on the Ancient Atlantean magics of old, noticing quickly how powerful his grandson was. While he had his granddad during the day, John got extremely lonely and the creatures of the depths scared him immensely even causing him to grow an intense fear of large schools of fish. Haunting him well into his teens until he began being able to communicate with sealife Years went by and eventually John began growing into quite the young man, educated in most forms of combat forms by Atuna the prince was a force to be reckoned with on a bad day, and on his 16th birthday...John was brought back to Atlantis, escaping the depths he had grown up in.

After seeing how well the boy survived in the harsh environment of the deep, the People of Atlantis grew past their initial displeasure of John and he was welcomed back into the city with open arms, with Xinera ready to go to war with her own people if necessary. Jonathan was immediately enrolled into the Silent School of Mystic Arts where he began his formal training. While things started off well Atuna and Xinera began seeing how unhinged John was around other people, he was rude, brash, and incredibly violent due mostly to his years in the deep void of other people.

While he did initially face problems, years continued to grow by and John went from a ruthless warrior into a caring prince worthy of standing by his mother's side, Xinera had plans for John, she wished for him to bridge the gap between the two worlds so that they could finally know peace. So when John graduated from the Silent School and earned his tattoos it was also the day for John to visit the Surface for the first time. So after John had gathered his armor and equipment he set off for the surface. Though just as he was about to break the top of the waves John found himself on a completely different world than the one he knew, and though initially he was thrown off balance he quickly learned to fit in; joining the Justice League Alliance and even going so far as to seek out the Atlantis of this world quickly becoming friends with its leader and princess Odessa. While on this world he was no longer in line to rule he kept his royal lineage and all of his powers remained the same solidifying that no matter where he went he truly was the Prince of Atlantis; and while he promised Odessa he wouldn’t interfere with her kingdom he is always ready to step in as a leader seeing as other than Odessa and himself, no other beings possess Royal blood for the throne.

Atlantean Physiology:

A hybridized Atlantean-Human offshoot, John’s biology is truly a work of art, while most Atlantean’s rely on gills to breathe underwater, John’s respiratory system functions as a single large gill. He is able to filter the oxygen out of water and draw it deep into his lungs without ever having the water enter his body, instead having the liquid act as a shield against water entering his body. John’s body is also built to handle the extreme high pressure of the sea, John’s lungs are completely compressible, meaning that he can force all of the gases in his lungs into his bloodstream and muscles, where it can dissolve under the pressure. His organs have also adapted to hold more myoglobin and hemoglobin. So the collapse of the lungs also prevents gas exchange at the alveoli, thus preventing nitrogen from entering the bloodstream, which would result in the “bends” that human deep-sea divers can experience if they rise from great depths too quickly. But John and the Atlantean’s have naturally learned how to rise through the water, decompressing just as humans do to prevent this painful condition. Without the air pockets in his body cavities and tissues, John is no longer susceptible to the same pressure that Surface Dweller bodies feel. Furthermore, while some creatures do have air in their ear canals (and some even have sinuses in their head cavity), the tissues lining these cavities are often highly flexible, and can readily expand, thus forcing out any air and preventing the pressure difference. This is what allowed John to survive so long at the Depth of the Ocean’s, and much like the rest of his body this is something that John trained and worked out allowing him to travel and survive in levels so low even a hyper enhanced Atlantean would be flattened like a pancake.

Equipment:

The Tattoos of the Silent School: Bestowed upon him by the teachers of the Silent School John’s tattoos are as much of a piece of equipment as his Trident, but maybe even more so. These inkings allow John to perform various magical and divine acts. Unlike most Atlantean's, John's tattoos don’t vanish when he’s not performing spells. But when the Prince performs higher levels of magic, his tattoos will begin to spread farther throughout his body beginning to even encase his face and eyes. John is upon one of the most powerful graduates of the Silent School ever, which Atuna believes to be why his tattoos don’t disappear when he’s docile.

. . .

The Armor of Pallas: Given to John by the Messenger of the Seas Triton himself the Armor of Pallas is the same armor used by Triton's daughter the warrior sea nymph Pallas, this is the suit worn by Pallas when she was accidentally struck down by Athena at the hand of Zeus, struck with grief Athena and Triton with the help of Hephaestus modified the armor so that it would never again fall in battle. Pallas was then honored next to Zeus and the armor was given to Triton, where it was later bestowed upon his distant relative John centuries later. The armor is said to be indestructible, capable of withstanding incalculable amounts of damage, it’s only weakness being the distraction of mind. If John were to lose focus or get distracted the armour would become weak like paper dooming him to a fate like Pallas unless he got focussed once again.

The Amulet of Coeus: Found and stored in the Atlantean Vaults lies the Amulet of Coeus, the necklace contained some of the wisdom and knowledge of the Wisdom Titan Coeus. While wearing this amulet John is able to see past the hidden, such as illusions and lies, he also gains heighted immunity to things such as telepathic peering and mind control.

The Princes Gauntlets: Formerly his mothers, these gauntlets hold part of John’s divine right to rule the seas. Within a compartment of the gauntlet lies a relic that stores a shell that holds “recordings” from previous rulers of Atlantis, Xinera blessed John with this item hoping that he would record his time on the surface, something no other ruler of Atlantis has done. John records daily.

The Kopis of Triteia
The Kopis of Triteia

The Blade of Triteia: Given to John by another of Tritons children, the sword of Triteia was given to her by Ares who loved the warrior-nymph. Triteia was a brave and powerful warrioress who was also praised by Athena and allowed to serve as the Goddess of War’s priestess. After the nymphs fighting days were behind her she decided that her blade was to be given to the Princes and Princesses of Atlantis when they came of age and would stay by their side until they died. So after John had graduated from the Silent School Triteia came to John and bestowed the Prince with the weapon. The Kopis blade is blessed with the power of Ares, making it indestructible and powerful enough to cut through virtually any substance. The blade also helps guide John’s hand when in tough situations, offering guidance to the Prince’s grip when facing a foe who may possess greater swordsmanship skills than he.

The Princes Trident (Trident of Neptune): Forged by the very Cyclops who crafted Poseidon's mighty Trident. Tempest's trident is only seconded in power by the Trident of Poseidon wielded by his mother. Johns Trident has been imbued with the power of Poseidon, blessed by Potamoi, deity of rivers, fathers of Naiads, brothers of the Oceanids, and as such, And dipped in the blood of the Great Sea Titans Oceanus and Tethys, The Trident of Neptune serves as a symbolism of the royal line. John wields the Trident as both his divine right to rule and as a lethal weapon which can pierce mystical defences and draw blood from even the most powerful beings. Crafted by a material lost to man, John's weapon is an indestructible item, able to survive even the harshest of punishments, and due to it’s divine nature it’s power can’t be cut off by an outside source. The trident also grants John numerous abilities, and heightens others that he has such as weather manipulation. With the divine power of the trident John is able to reign control over the forces of weather, producing storms of rain, lightning, wind and thunder. He’s able to create category 5 storms with this power, though water storms are easier for him to control without the power getting out of hand.

Powers:

Superhuman Durability: John’s skin is tough enough to resist arms fire with no injury even tanking a rocket blast to the face. He is resistant to stabbing and slashing weapons of normal degree, although his skin may falter to weapons of extremely high magical caliber such as Shield Maidens sword, or Thomas Richards Blades of All. John has withstood attacks from high powered beings with little to no injury. He is also very resistant to heat and energy attacks having once survived being thrown into molten lava and walking out unscathted. While a durable foe John’s resiliency can wear down from extremely powerful enemies.

Superhuman Stamina: Tempest is able to function much longer than any human, without tiring or becoming weak. With no lengthy injuries John is able to to physically exert himself for days on end as long as he's hydrated.

Superhuman Senses: John’s senses are heightened to levels beyond any human capabilities, he can hear, see, and smell for several miles making him an excellent tracker, his eyes are also accustomed to seeing at the bottom of the ocean essentially giving him nightvision.

Superhuman Reflexes: Johns reflexes are heightened to levels far beyond that of any human. Bullets and other firearms appear to move in slow motion for him and he’s also been shown dodging lasers and other projectiles faster than a conventional bullet.

Superhuman Speed: While underwater John can move over 3,000 meters per second, or 2x the speed of sound while underwater just with his strength alone without manipulating any of the water near him, that includes pushing through the drag of the water and the weight of the depths to move at such speeds. Out of the water John can easily break hypersonic speeds and go beyond.

Superhuman Strength: John’s Hyper-Atlantean-Human heredity allows him incredible strength, and while most of his strength came from his biology John was raised in the deepest recesses of the ocean where just doing nothing was risky to your health, therefore his body grew accustomed to the killing pressures of the deep. John’s strength is beyond any normal Atlantean capabilities; he’s pushed a Tectonic Plate back in place, pulled fishing boats in raging waters, and has even thrown a cruise ship from underwater. When backed into a corner John’s strength should never be underestimated.

Accelerated Healing: John is able to recover from wounds far quicker then any human. Able to heal from major injuries in a matter of days or a few weeks.

Magic: John is one of the most accomplished and powerful Atlanteans mages to bless Atlantis in centuries. Having earned his tattoos in a short span of two years, Tempest's magical reserves tap in deeply with his divine heritage, John’s magic comes from his belief, strength of will, and his faith in Atlantis and himself. Tempest’s able to create multiple effects with his magic such as symbol magic and beyond and its use is usually shown by a bright lavender glow in his eyes. While The Silent School is Atlantis’ most prestigious school of magic John did learn elemental magic from a place called the “Conclave”

Eldritch Blast: By weaving together the four elemental magics to form one single beam of energy John is capable of creating Eldritch Blasts, he’s shown the ability to weave a singular blast of energy, or create an explosion large enough to level an entire city block. The full extent of the blast hasn’t been explored.

Marine Telepathy and Telepathy Resistance: Growing up with a large fear of grouped aquatic animals it came as a relief to John to know that he was able to actually communicate with aquatic life. After years of practice and mastery John was told that his ability to communicate with sea life was a direct result of his heritage, and while some Atlanteans could do the same, John had dominion over all creatures of the Ocean ranging from the most microscopic plankton to the Kraken that rested on the Ocean’s floor. This is not just limited to Earth’s aquatic animals either, John has communicated with alien sea creatures before, most notably at the JLA Watchtower. Lastly strong telepathic training has ensured that John’s telepathy couldn’t be interrupted by outside forces.

Hydrokinesis: John possesses intense control over the element of water, able to manipulate it however he sees fit, capable of creating intense storms or calming waves at a moments notice. He's able to command liquid to any degree he wishes. John also has the mental capacity to alter water at the molecular level. He can directly bend the sea of H2O molecules in any given body of water to his will. Along with his physilolgy, certain parts of his mind can vibrate at the same frequency as the H2O molecule making pure thought contact with it. The prince can dominate, freeze, shape, alter the density of and do other various things with water and other liquids.Lastly John has shown the knowledge to even control the liquid in another living organism being able to actually control their body via their blood, or even strip them of the precious life source, doing so disgusts him and he has yet to fully master all of the techniques.

Viscosity Manipulation: John is able to control the viscosity of any liquid, turning it from a liquid to rock like surfaces, or even a jelly like substance with little effort. John normally uses this to slow down seacraft but he’s discovered several horrible applications to this power.

Skills:

. . .

Diplomacy: John is a skilled diplomat, having stopped several large battles from breaking out. Atuna and Xinera almost pushed John to be a peaceful person and to avoid conflict above seeking it out, therefore diplomacy was something John studied often.

Hand to Hand Combat: John is trained heavily in the arts of hand to hand combat, both above and below ocean and surface. While no martial arts master John is able to hold his own due to sufficient training and his own speed and reflexes.

Swordsmanship: Tempest is a talented swordsman trained by some of the best sword handlers in the sea along with Atlantis’ top generals. John’s main blade is Triteia’s Kopis and the Aqua hero is quite skilled at handling it. John is a naturally talented swordsman with his skills continuing to grow as time passes, capable of holding his own against and defeating larger, more experienced, and more powerful opponents, John’s skills with a sword and trident are nothing to be slept on.

Politician: Taught by his mother and Atuna John is an adept politician.

Battle Tactician: John is an equipped strategist and field leader, having led the armies of Atlantis on small missions during his training, he possesses a strategic mind and coming up with battle plans is something he’s either new or uncomfortable with.

Weaknesses:

. . .

Dehydration: John dehydrates much faster than a normal human. When dehydrated his powers will not work and he will be extremely weak and drained of energy until he rehydrates himself.

Arrogance: While John is clear headed in most cases, he is arrogant and this can cause him to get into some fights he would rather not get in.

The Armor of Pallas: While perhaps one of his greatest tools in battle, the Armor of Pallas is also perhaps one of John’s most risky pieces of equipment. While the armor is indestructible in normal cases, if John happens to lose focus from the battle or his mind strays like Palla’s did the armors high durability turns off leaving John vulnerable to attack, the most dangerous part is that the armor lowers John’s own superhuman durability down to human levels adding to the risk of death or serious injury.

Sound Attacks: With his enhanced senses coupled with the fact that he lives underwater John is extremely susceptible to sound attacks, with sounds of a high enough frequency able to cause Tempest high amounts of pain and even cripple him for an amount of time.
