How do you guys feel about referencing politics and current events in comics?
I've noticed that political slant is more common yet not exclusive to Marvel Comics, which whether that is good or bad is up for debate. But for me its been a bit of a turn off. A few of the first issues I read in Marvel comics had pretty loud political statements, and I haven't really read Marvel since. It has only happened a couple of times in DC, but I have found myself dropping those titles anytime they come up. When I read comics I am trying to escape from everyday life and daydream about something extraordinary. The last thing I want is to be dragged back into the real world by undertones and familiar faces...
Also, while it occasionally can fit into a plot line rather well, more often than not it's more the author of that specific issue using his position to push his own agenda. I can almost see them hiding behind my favorite characters, with a hand clamped over their mouths spouting out their version of what is good and what is bad. for me it taints the character, by simply stamping them as D or R or whatever the inclination may be. I've seen it happen a number of times and I've never once felt it was necessary.
So what do you guys think? Current politics or no current politics? (Also, I'm not bringing this up as a debate of WHICH politics are acceptable, I just want to see what you guys think overall...) :)
Thanks a lot guys, now I'm sitting at work watching Batman Forever....
How you could watch a movie in your work?
I have the most pointless job ever as an RA at my school... I have to man the front desk of the dorms until 1AM... nothing ever happens so we just do homework and sit on our computers...
THAT SOUND LIKE A KICK ASS JOB!!!!!
You do nothing and get paid, why i cant get a job like that?
No we do nothing when we're on duty..... but as RAs we're on call 24/7, so we have tp listen to residents complain about their issues all the time, do roommate mediation, and create social programs.... also, we have to sit at that desk on weekends from 845 to 1AM so.... no weekend for us :(
