  • Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. Sends Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan to Naboo to negotiate with the Trade federation. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan escort Queen Padmé to Coruscant so that she can plead her people's case to Senator Valorum and the Galactic Senate. Naboo's Senator Palpatine persuades Padmé to call for a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum and Palpatine is elected as the new Chancellor.

  • The Republic is made up of several hundred thousands of worlds, and each planet or system has representation in the Republic Senate, which comprises most of the Republic Legislative Branch and the government itself. It starts off merely as an economic and protection alliance, mainly among the Core worlds. It eventually expands to the Colonies, and other outlying worlds and regions, becoming a superpower, rather than an alliance, and becomes the central government for the galaxy.

  • Jedi Master. Is sent by Senator Valorum to negotiate with Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray when the federation blockades the planet of Naboo. He and Obi-Wan help Queen Padmé to escape and escort her to Coruscant to ask the senate for help. Along the way they stop on Tatooine for starship repairs where Qui-Gon Jinn wins the freedom of a slave, Anakin Skywalker, and vows to train him as a Jedi against the Jedi Council's wishes. He is later killed by Darth Maul and asks Obi-Wan to train Anakin in his place.

  • Gungan species. Native of the Otoh Gunga underwater city on the planet Naboo. Is saved by Qui-Gon Jinn and owes him a life-debt. When Queen Padmé forms an alliance with the Gungan, Jar Jar Binks is promoted to General and joins his tribe in battle against the droid army.

  • Queen of Naboo. Resident of the Capital City of Theed. Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi help rescue Queen Padmé when the planet is blockaded by the Trade federation. They escape on her Royal Starship, intending to reach the Republic capital planet of Coruscant to ask for help against the invading droid army. Once there she is persuaded to call for a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum by Senator Palpatine. Frustrated with the corruption in the senate, she returns to Naboo and forms an alliance with the Gungan and together they defeat the invading droid army and win the war.

  • Each Galactic Republic member world or system chooses a Senator to represent them in the Republic Senate, the main body of the legislative branch of the government. Senators are ambassadors of their homeworlds or systems. Member worlds and systems maintain their governments and societies as long as it does not defy any central and core Republican laws.

  • Part of the Naboo defense forces, one of four astromech droids deployed for repair duty on Queen Padmé's starship as it attempts to get past the Trade Federation blockade. The lone survivor of the four, it becomes part of Qui-Gon Jinn's party on Tatooine where it meets Anakin Skywalker.

  • Anakin Skywalker. Son of Shmi. Originally a slave owned by Watto on the planet Tatooine. Qui-Gon senses a strong presence of the Force within Anakin and wins both the parts required to repair the starship and Anakin's freedom in a podrace wager with Watto. Anakin joins the group to be trained as a Jedi, leaving behind his mother, Shmi. Back on Naboo, Anakin inadvertently triggers the starfighter's autopilot, traveling to the battle against the Federation droid control ship. Anakin blunders into the control ship's hangar and causes its destruction from within before escaping, deactivating the droid army in the process. Following the death of Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin becomes the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

  • Sith Lord. Apprentice of Darth Sidious. Dathomirian Zabrak species. Attempts to capture Queen Padmé on the planet Tatooine but is faltered by Master Qui-Gon Jinn and they escape. On Naboo during the droid army invasion, Maul kills Qui-Gon Jinn during a lightsaber battle before being bisected by Obi-Wan Kenobi and falling down a pit.
