@indomitableregal: Thanks! I agree what you said about a good story taking a game from good to great, which is why video games can be art imo, because that interweaving emotional motivation to use the gameplay mechanics in a manner that will uplift the human spirit such as you know how we might want stay true to the character when its allowed such as being more stealthly non lethal for a heroic espionage soldier and we'll feel bad about if we run counter to the narrative unless we were trying to freak out the girls watching that we have crushes on thinking somehow that she'll be attracted to me, and my mom yelled at me to apologize and, then I'm not upset because of the game, I'm...wait what? lol

LMAO. XD

Appreciate your thoughts because I think I am with you on gameplay. I think we can take this to a reasonable degree where we won't want to choose a character that's immoral story-wise if the gameplay mechanics have more depth and complexity, but as long as it's decent, gameplay wins, and the mechanics can inform the characterization such as how their movement reflects the choices they made in their life to build up their skills and physique. What do you think? Being a fighting game fan?

Interesting. So like a story within the mechanics itself? Like for instance, how a character like Akuma can have standard shoto mechanics for the most part, but they feel much more brutal because of the character himself and the on-screen portrayal? Not sure I understood right lol.

Regarding Street Fighter, even though 5 and 6 had more story, do you think Street Fighter 2,3, and 4 will still be favorites?

Absolutely, particularly 2 & 3. In fact, I think 5 is gonna slide down the totem pole because it misstepped with its attempt at adding story. I think the gameplay was fine, but a lot of people view the story as a knock against it. 4 might be a little lower just because by today's standards, the designs look a little funny lol. But it was pivotal in the series and came at a time when the fighting game genre was on life support. SF6 however is shaping up to be a classic. Graphics are gorgeous, good blend of old gen, new gen, and brand new characters, inclusion of classic or modern controls, the open world create-a-player format, etc. This could end up as the series's magnum opus.

And I think Marvel vs Capcom 2 is still king.

I waffle between MvC2 and UMvC3 in my head all the time lol. I have the most fond memories with the former, but I think it speaks volumes that the latter came out in 2011 and the community for it is still very strong. Enough that it's still a major game at EVO. And I don't know if you've seen, but there are actually a few gamers that got together and have been added modded players to the roster (I think it's only available if you play the PC version). But it has over 50 new players available along with the same OG roster. They call it the Community Edition.

Who is your favorite video game character though because I think our favorite is one we have emotional attachment to where it relies on the character, in and of himself or herself, and not about the experience, unless it's because we spend so much time with him or her that we can build an attachment such as spending so long learning the fighting mechanics. Or a series of games such as Mario. I've actually never played through a Mario, so I'm guessing!

I wish I could search my head for every VG character I know, so I could have a better answer for this lol. But I think I'm gonna go with Ken Masters. Part of it is like you said, spending so long to learn the character. But another component is that I tend to favor the secondary characters, often because the narrative isn't automatically written for them to succeed. You can't say for certain how their story will play out. Mario is cool, but I prefer Luigi. Ryu is the face, but I'd rather play the more offensive Ken. Love Dante, but give me Vergil. That often extends into other media as well. Give me Raphael over Leonardo or Red Hood over Nightwing.

Always awesome reading your thoughts. I miss them! Hope you and yours are having a nice 2024 and you're staying warm!

Appreciated. I've been busier, so I haven't gotten to come around as much, but I still find pockets lol. And same to you!

@infinitehope: LOL. Then it was worth it. I'm just impressed by how many you came up with in the first place. I ended up thinking of movies I never realized I would be interested in. And you're welcome!

Batman, Joker, Wolverine, Magneto...

Writing, Concept, then Art. But even though I have art 3rd, it's still important and serves as a major enhancement.

@infinitehope: Always a good thread from you lol. These are tough because some of these already had a solo movie. Or for some of the shows, they had enough time dedicated that it served a similar purpose. I'll try my best not to go with super obvious answers (though sometimes, it's obvious because it's the best lol).

  • Avengers= Okay, I have 3 answers in mind. The first is Daisy from Agents of SHIELD. I think the MCU could've capitalized on her since she was such a fan favorite and eventually incorporated her into the Avengers proper. The 2nd is Sentry. I've had this idea forever because you also get a built in villain with Void. The only caveat is you would at least need cameos from other Avengers members, but this would be a great way to introduce FF before their own movie. And 3rd, Blue Marvel. Another excellent story and character imo, Disney gets to be woke again (lol), and you get Anti-Man as your villain. You also leave the door open for The Ultimates down the road.
  • The Justice League= 2 answers here, and both could give us a bit more of the DCU outside of Earth. Either Martian Manhunter (but admittedly, I always found him kinda dry), or you take another crack at Green Lantern.
  • Team 7/Kakashi's Team (Naruto)= Naruto himself. Sasuke is too dour, Sakura is too useless... I mean... uninteresting, and Kakashi isn't a bad choice, but I'm not sure which route you would go. There's always another interesting Naruto story to tell imo.
  • The Atasuki (Naruto)= No more Itachi. Konan because she had an awesome ability yet probably got the least screen time. Show us a solo mission. Kakuzu or Kisame would be great as well.
  • The Lord of the Rings= Aragorn or Sauron! Why? Because as someone who has never seen any of them, these are the characters that interest me most lol.
  • Ed, Edd, and Eddy= Rolf. That kid has experience. I guarantee his life before the cul-de-sac was a damn adventure lol.
  • X-Men= Gambit or Storm. Storm would get more immediate hype, but Gambit deserves another shot at the big screen. You could strictly do an origin movie with him, and it would be great (or at least would have the potential to be).
  • Ash, Misty, and Brock group (Pokemon)= Brock. That is all.
  • Teen Titans= Dick Grayson. This is an example of "obvious is best".
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles= Casey Jones.
  • Team Avatar= Toph Beifong. The greatest Earthbender to ever do it. The Blind Bandit. Either from her pre-team days or from her prime as Chief of Police. But if Iroh counts as part of the team, a solo from his days as the Dragon of the West would be great, too (actually a Fire Nation Royal Family movie? Mint.).
  • The Fantastic Four= Thing. Easily imo.
  • S.H.I.E.L.D.= So I made my Daisy pick without realizing this was a thing lol. So either Daisy in this spot, or Mockingbird.
  • Alpha Flight= No clue. Maybe James and Heather Hudson? Or Sasquatch? They might not have a single member who can carry.
  • Transformers= Optimus and Megatron are the obvious choices.
  • G.I. Joe= Since Snake Eyes already exists, Duke would be the best choice. And not the Channing Tatum version.
  • Thundercats= BRO. Give Lion-O a movie now lol. Although, I would personally watch Panthro as well, but this is another "obvious is best".
  • Archie and the Gang= Jughead. The wholesome comedy we need lol. Just don't make everything dark and brooding like Riverdale.
  • League of Extraordinary Gentlemen= I don't know nearly enough here, but Jekyll/Hyde is involved, so that's my choice.
  • The Flash Family= Wally West. Hopefully to replace Ezra Miller...
  • Doom Patrol= Uh... Robot Man...
  • Birds of Prey= Personally, I would want Cassie Cain or Big Barda, who are both part of the current iteration. But the existing Birds of Prey movie ruined Cassie, and I think Barda needs to be saved for whenever the DCU invokes Darkseid again. So I would go with either Catwoman (I know she's been done, but still) or -- who is imo the better pick -- Poison Ivy. Especially considering how much emphasis Harley Quinn gets.
  • The Office (U.S.)= No clue. Could never get into it.
  • Batman Family= 3 really good choices imo, but I already used Nightwing above, and Batgirl tested poorly. Which leaves me with the one I would probably want most anyway: Red Hood. DCU would get the equivalent of a Winter Soldier with this one.
  • Outsiders= Katana. Suicide Squad did her no favors. Metamorpho is interesting, but can't carry. Black Lightning had a show (a really good one imo), but it got low ratings.
  • The Z-Warriors (Dragon Ball Z)= Goku is the best choice, but give Krillin a solo movie with his family as costars, and I have full confidence lol. And obligatory Vegeta choice as well (throw in a little love for Bulma lol).
  • Kids Next Door= Numbuh 1 or 5. Numbuh 1 probably has a more compelling story, but Numbuh 5 is just cooler lol.
  • Seinfeld= Never had an interest tbh.
  • Peanuts (Charlie Brown)= Snoopy. Obvious is best.
  • Suicide Squad= Deadshot.
  • Brotherhood of Evil Mutants= Magneto, of course. But a Mystique movie if made properly could be really good. Actually, I think there's more mileage in a Mystique movie than a Magneto one.
  • Excalibur= Captain Britain. It's only right.
  • Team Urameshi (Yu Yu Hakusho)= ...Dealer's choice lol. This is one of the most well-balanced and likeable cores in anime imo. But I would go with Hiei or Kurama. I actually don't think you can have a Yusuke movie without the others, and I don't quite think Kuwabara can carry.
  • New Warriors= Imo, it has t be either Nova (Richard Rider version) or Squirrel Girl.
  • The Defenders= We already have Doctor Strange, so I say Ghost Rider next.
  • The Sinister Six= I don't know how good his upcoming movie will be, but I do believe Kraven to be the best choice.
  • The Powerpuff Girls= Don't think any can carry solo, though funnily enough, I'd give Bubbles the best chance.
  • Straw Hats (One Piece)= Zoro 1000% percent. I'm pretty sure Luffy is the most popular, though. But I just feel Zoro or even Sanji would be better for a solo.
  • The Gotei 13 (Bleach)= Uhh... this is a lengthy list tbh. Kenpachi, Byakuya, Aizen, Shunsui, Unohana... most of the people who have had Captain status. Or some of Squad Zero. Or the Soul King. Truthfully, there's a lot of unexplored territory.
  • Justice Society of America= I think Alan Scott, but since I see a Lantern category coming, I'm gonna say Wildcat or Spectre (massive power differences on that one lol).
  • Mystery Incorporated/Scooby Doo Detective Agency= If the narrative is to be believed, not Velma lol. Scooby himself.
  • Little Rascals/Our Gang= Alfalfa? Lol.
  • The A-Team= B.A. Baracus. I pity the fool...
  • Green Lantern Corps= Hal Jordan or John Stewart. I think you can only do the latter if you've properly introduced the former already.
  • X-Force (led by Cable)= Cable himself. I would keep Josh Brolin in the role, too.
  • Uncanny X-Force (Psylocke, Archangel, Deadpool and Fantomex)= Deadpool has 2 and a 3rd on the way, so let's go with Psylocke. They really wasted Olivia Munn btw. It was a great casting choice, and she trained for it. And apparently she pushed for the role to be more comic accurate, but it was turned down.
  • Young Justice= Kaldur'ahm. Could play really well with him being Atlantean and Black Manta's son.
  • The Survey Corps (Attack on Titan)= You know, I actually never finished this beyond the first season, but I was a huge fan of Mikasa.

This took a comically LONG time to do lol.

Bruce wins on skill, and I think morals off makes the gap wider.

On purely skill, Dinah for the majority, but Slade makes her work for it.

Hard stop at May, but I think she stops at Ward. One of the NPCs Echo was fighting gave her trouble due to being a good deal bigger than her, so I think Mack is a tough out. But he doesn't have the skill to keep up with her. Ward should be able to, plus he has her beat physically.

Really just comes down to which Iceman shows up. Is it the immortal, absolute zero, planetary Omega? Or just standard Bobby lol. I'll side with team 1 more often than not.

Ozai, of course.

@indomitableregal said:

New round, different day, same vote. Ozai, the Scale King.

Ozai is canonically better than four of these combatants

Is he though? Is he really?

@indomitableregal: What problem do you have with Ozai? Just curiosity. And if it's lack of feats, what do you think about Iroh and Jeong Jeong?

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to respond. I'll get back to you later.
