I tend to avert the tragic parents trope. More often than not, most of my characters have at least have one parents and if their parents are dead, they were not lost in a particularly tragic way.

Some do get roles. Especially with my love of Non-Player characters. I often think about ways to include parents into their stories. Such as Amani's parents still existing and the conflict of "I can't go back to them or I'll endager them." Or just Moya having no particularly Tragic background at all and being compelled by nothing more than her immense ambitions to become something greater. "Her parents were Savants." They function in a mentor role and give her advice on how to approach certain problems. Et cetera.

I've tried to avoid that too. I mean, if they do die in a tragic way it was after said character was already a super. Mostly because I don't want that as a motivator. I think the dead relative/loved one angle is played out. Ultimately you can only go the Spider-Man or Batman way. Batman is heavily focused on revenge/justice and anger. Spider-Man is guilty and neurotic, so he's just trying to amend for that. Most people would also get over that too. You need to have an extreme personality to be defined by a single tragic event. Motivators like power, wealth, fame, sex, duty, or just trying to find meaning feel more real to me and more sustainable in the long run.

I think I'm going to read something. I'm having a bit of a hard time writing right now.

The tentacle grabbed him across the torso and held him tightly against the wall. He didn’t smell it before, but now that it was so close to him he could. It was like ground beef just taken out of the freezer.

He’s made out of flesh. The flesh of different people, but flesh nonetheless.

“What..the hell are you?” He asked, barely able to breath from the pressure of being stuck to the wall from the bloody tendril.

His brass knuckles lit up, steam emitting from the heat. It would stake a bit for them to reach their maximum level of heat, but this would do for now. He tried to burn through, but it failed. It still wasn’t hot enough.

Instead, he was rammed through the wall by the rest of his entire mass. Broken concrete covered him, his black cowl was now covered in white ashes and so was his cape.

Everything seemed to be functioning fine, except maybe his pride. Opening the wall might have been an advantage after all. It widened the area, making it easier for him to avoid his next attacks. The Black Bat reached into his utility belt and took out two rectangle shaped pellets. With his thumb, he pushed out the top part and threw it the meat monster.

He called the pellets “Pteno-cocktails”, like Molotov cocktails, they released a wave of fire when they came into contact with the ground. The Black Bat wanted to turn this thing into human barbecue.

I wish I was better at editing like Ghost. I would edit a bunch of Batman pics, erase the logo and put a dog instead. Essentially adapting the name "The Doberman" to better fit the "Hound of War" name. But uh, I'll stick with "The Black Bat" and pretend pulp magazines never existed.
