The Aeneid File: Incident #2

Incident #2

October 29th

Incident Type: Cyberattack

No Caption Provided

The last century was an era of horrors caused by technological advancements. Humanity has created more ways to kill each other in the past hundred years than we have in our entire history. Sometimes I wonder if there will be a future generations at all. When I was naive, accessing police files would have required that I break into the station and go through their files one by one. Now, I can do it from my computer. Anyone can.

The age of technology smothered the age of security. Hiding my identity is three times more difficult than it was before. Everyone always has cameras in their phones. Any kid with half a brain can find out where you live based on your IP address.

For a few seconds, everyone in Charlotte saw a face inside their computer, tv, and cellphone screens. The authorities and the media were quick to start pointing fingers to different groups, but the truth was that they had nothing. No trace. No clue. It didn’t do anything as far as they knew, except just flash a strange face.

People were more concerned with how someone was able to hack everything inside the city, rather than focusing on what it actually did. They thought it was another prank. They compared it to the Max Headroom broadcast intrusion from November 22, 1987. Like the Headroom incident, I know the real story behind it. I doubt this is the last time the world will see the face that the people of Charlotte saw.

The virus keeps evolving at an alarming rate. It’s desire to create a face of itself indicates a troubling awareness. Now, it didn’t just hack into their computers. It connected into the internet. Able to see and learn from all the sources available inside the world wide web. His access to the internet complicates matters even more, there’s no way to tell who his next target will be, but If my predictions are correct he will more than likely go after a company with access to powerful technology.

The Aeneid File: Incident #1

Incident #1

Incident type: Murder

No Caption Provided

The last century was an era of technological advancements. Future generations will look back and call it an enlightenment. When I was a better man, I would have raced the cops to the crime scene and rushed out before they showed up. Now, I can send a drone to scan the crime scene, replicate the area and body, and cross reference it with the pictures in the police file, all without having to move from my chair.

I don’t usually deal with murders these days, but this one is different. Pieces of a Cerberus unit was found in a dumpster. The unit alone connects it to the Aeneid Virus, but that doesn’t explain the corpse that showed up in the alley. a few blocks away. What’s more, is the state of the body.

His name was Darrell Collins. Twenty-years old. Only son of Richard and Marilyn Collins. Born in Manhattan.1997.Members of the organization were hesitant to talk. They just gave authorities his name to notify the family. No one wanted to explain why a twenty year old was found lifeless on a pavement when his medical history was nearly spotless.

If the cops find the truth, I doubt they would report it. A young metahuman getting killed in a rally would create a new series of hashtags for people to rally behind. It isn't their fault in this case. It's none of their faults that he's dead. They wouldn’t be able to solve it, since they could only see one part of the picture.

I know what really happened to Darrell. After running an autopsy in his brain, I was able to identify an anomaly. Darrell’s frontal lobe was able to project his consciousness and motor skills towards machinery located in his immediate space. In response, his body completely lost mobility and consciousness.

Based on these discoveries I hypothesize that Darrell's demise was a result of unfortunate circumstance. Darrell entered one of Cerberus Units and what he found inside was the Aeneid Virus. The virus mistook his consciousness as technology or didn’t (the level of self-awareness it has by now is unclear). In any case, the result is the same. The virus disconnected the link Darrell had with his own body and trapped it within its own consciousness.

Whether Darrell is still in there or gone is a mystery that can’t be solved until I gather more data.

Gauntlets of Camazotz

The Dead Man's Hands

Convex Metal Knuckles: The protection around his knuckles doesn’t only serve to prevent damage to his hands, the metal lining around his knuckles also intensifies the impact of his fists. They have three other functions besides preventing arthritis for the New Caesar. The knuckles can reach extreme temperatures to further inflict damage upon his opponents, leaving behind burns as reminders of their encounter. The second function emits high charges of electricity, thanks to the metal's incredible conductive properties, these being most effective against non-insulated armor and water-based opponents. The final function of the knuckles is to use them as projectiles. The metal knuckles can be ejected at high speeds with the targeting system in the lenses, hitting multiple targets at the same time.

Index Finger/Left Hand: The index finger contains a medium range taser, placed there with the element of surprise in mind. In contrast to the electric knightorang and the electric gloves, the index finger conducts the electricity through a wire resembling a classical taser gun. Donn will often use the index taser when he intends to subdue a specific target, typically against an unpowered opponent.

Index Finger/Right Hand: Courtesy of Stark’s visionary designs, the Black Bat implemented a high-intensity laser into his own armor from the previous suit Stark made him. The laser is an infrared beam, which can be scaled back to merely handicap the sensors of a target. The weapon precision is what attracted Donn originally, it’s ability to be used in a non-lethal manner to dazzle someone’s concentration, and to then be able to increase said weapon to 30,000 watts to fry machinations. If necessary, the laser can be tuned to fire the laser at the intensity of the sun, though he is hesitant to do so due to its destructive capabilities.

Middle Finger/Left Hand: The middle finger has the ability to project holograms of himself, others, schematics, videos, and other files. He can detach the tiny projector from the middle finger and use it to create neurologically controlled projections, these projection being restricted only by his imagination. The projector has a second mode that's able to project multiple decoys of the Black Bat. The decoys operate based on an artificial intelligence, which detects enemies inside the room and attempts to attack them with a plethora of recorded moves by the Black Bat.

Middle Finger/Right Hand: The Aeneid is a virus transmitted through nanotechnology, which can scan the components of a piece of weaponry and armor without having to access the technology through a signal or an internet connection. The nanomachines scan the devices through a multifaceted quasi-atomic vision, inspired by Supra-Man’s own atomic vision. The information found is then uploaded to the Black Bat's personal database and fed directly into his lenses. The virus assesses the information, enabling him different ways to manipulate the technology against said opponent. It can seek to seize control of the piece of said technology, causing it to possibly malfunction or use it with a more offensive nature. This is all achieved through innovative nanobots, which attach themselves to the components that control the weapon and prevent the user from activating them properly.

Palms: The Black Bat implemented several speakers in his hand, letting him to release a high powered sonar attack from both of his palms should he desire to. The Black Bat utilizes the sound emitting from his hand at different capabilities. Dialing down the hertz (Hz) below 20 (Below what the human ear can hear) allows him to cause mild discomfort and nausea to his opponents if he dials the decibels (dB) up. Between 0.5 and 8 Hz, at 180 dB can cause breathing to be erratic and create bone spasms. At 130 dB with a regular frequency, his opponent would be able to feel a threshold of pain. At close distance, 150 dB would destroy his opponents’ eardrums. At 202 dB, the Black Bat would be able to kill a person with one of the blasts, as the pressure waves enter the lungs, rupturing them and causing his enemies to drown in their own blood. The highest potency for the sonar attack is 215 dB, roughly the sound of thunder and more than capable of injuring powerful metahumans.

Wrists: Due to his extreme paranoia, the Black Bat hides lockpicks and a small razor inside secret wrists compartment, should he ever finds himself trapped in an elaborate contraption set by an adversary. By pressing his index fingers and thumbs together, the Last Crime Fighter can launch a series of miniature heat-seeking missiles from his wrists. These missiles are typically used to damage more physically imposing metahumans and armored vehicles, instead of normal humans as it would obliterate them.

Left Gauntlet: The left gauntlet is a miniaturized computer that allows him to save blood samples, fingerprints, poisons, and other forms of evidence directly into his remote database. Through the left gauntlet, he can call his contacts and vehicles.

Right Gauntlet: The right gauntlet is able to fire an emergency, high-velocity rope in the event that the Black Bat finds himself falling from heights that would break his arm should he use his regular grapple gun. From the same gauntlet, he can aim his arm to fire off poisonous darts ranging from an elephant tranquilizer to venom from the fangs of an Inland Taipan. Only 110mg can reportedly kill over 100 men.

The Camazotz Armor

The Death Bat's Composition

No Caption Provided

After decades of experimentation with various materials and designs, the Black Bat has created the perfect combat armor to suit his methodical fighting style. With the assistance of Maverick Inc’s world renown designs for their soldiers and Stark’s ever futuristic engineering, the suit manages to combine the products of some of the greatest minds on the planet into one multi-million dollar battle suit. The suit is composed of six layers, each layer protecting the New Caesar from different threats, while simultaneously maximizing his mobility and endurance more than any previous suits of armor he wore before.

The bottom layer was actually inspired by his missing partner’s synth fluid vest, a resistant garb made to sustain slashing and intense temperatures. Wearing this extra layer saves the Black Bat time otherwise wasted in having to install ventilation systems, as the inner layer protects him from sweating and chafing. The Black Bat would have also had to install extra padding to make wearing the suit a more comfortable experience, an issue he doesn't have to deal with as It is said that synth fluid is more comfortable than mundane clothing. Having witnessed the same armor survive presidential wars and international conflicts, this layer serves as a reminder of Klaus’s efficiency before leaving the Central Intelligence Agency.

For the armor’s padding, the Black Bat used the carbon nanotubes designs for Maverick soldiers for their unique combination of high elastic modulus and high strain to failure, capable of elastically storing an extreme amount of energy. This attribute of carbon nanotubes provides the armor improved protection against blunt trauma effects. However, preventing blunt force trauma is not their purpose as a high caliber bullet would completely shatter the Black Bat’s bones if he only wore carbon nanotube padding. The padding is meant as a way for the Black Bat to deflect bullets where the plating separate from each other.

Inside the Carbon Nanotube padding, the Black Bat has a layer of magnetorheological fluid (MR fluid). These highly flexible sheets harden upon impact at approximately twenty-thousandths of a second. This liquid layer is the Black Bat’s contingency against high impact projectiles and strikes from powered metahumans. Their hardening capabilities would instantly shield him from the bone-shattering impact that he would receive from the fists of powerful metahumans and bullets that would hit the carbon nanotube padding.

If the other three layers weren’t enough, the suit’s plating is made up of carbonadium. A metamaterial engineered by Soviet scientists during the Cold War, that is far more flexible, lighter, and cheaper to produce than adamantium and vibranium, but far less durable. Yet, it has the ability to sustain machinegun fire at point blank, further enhancing the perception that the Black Bat isn’t merely a human being in the eyes of his opponents. He chose this material as his first line of defense for two reasons. The first being it allowed him to perform agile combat techniques without restraining his movements. The second being its radioactive nature, which is able to slow down healing factors from powered metahumans.

The last layer enhances his ability to move unnoticed, rather than providing defensive capabilities like the other five. This layer can bend light to its will upon the press of a button in his utility belt, turning him fully invisible from the electromagnetic spectrum. The light bending layer can also change the colors and aesthetics being perceived, essentially allowing him to appear to be wearing any of the previous versions of his armor. The armor can generate a sound absorbing field. Effectively able to mask his movements completely, to the point that it even absorbs the vibrations his body exerts when he moves making him effectively soundless.

The Icon piece doesn’t only serve as an extra layer of protection for his chest, it can now shoot three projectiles to nearby targets should the Black Bat find his hands unable to move. It also serves as a long-range acoustic device, which he uses to broadcast messages from up to two miles away to crowds of people.

The cape is the one item that has mostly remained the same in regards to design. It’s a standard memory fabric that takes the shape of bat wings once a soft shock of electricity is emitted. Before the cape was bulletproof and fireproof, however that extra layer of armor was sacrificed and replaced with a thicker form of memory fabric, to ensure that the cape would be able to carry the armor without strain.
