I'm wanting to start reading comics but I don't really know where to start. I really like Marvel and I love the Captain America films, so I was thinking about starting with that but I can't seem to find reprints of the first few comics and I don't know if there's anywhere better to start.
If anyone could help me out I'd really appreciate it.
Captain America: Man out of time (a great re-imagining of this origin story by Mark Waid) Then Ed Brubaker's Winter Soldier- in fact Brubaker's entire run is fantastic.
As for not really knowing where to start. Just start reading about characters that interest you and-after a little wiki reading-things will start falling into place. :)
My personal favorite CA story is The Captain. Gruenwald wrote some really good stuff.
Seriously, from what I hear, the first few issues wheren't that great, but since they changed out the creative team it's been fantastic, IMO.
I am going to try it out. I liked his Animal Man run very much. Liked it more than Morrison's original run even as it felt more like a horror than a superhero book.
Image has some pretty good comics. I'm sure you've heard of Walking Dead and that's published by Image. Then there's stuff like Chew, Saga, Invincible, Fatale, etc. Image is really a very solid brand right now.
@holyk: For Batman i recommend Batman & Dracula: Red Rain it's really quite good.
As for pre-52 have you read Secret Six or 52 both are fantastic.
I've actually been trying to get my hands on the trades Vampire and the 4 volumes of 52 but they're out of print. It's annoying how much stuff DC has let go out of print.
As Conway explained when he killed off Gwen Stacy,
Conway explained that Gwen and Peter were a "perfect couple", but taking that relationship to the next level (i.e. marriage or at least Peter revealing his secret identity to her) would "betray everything that Spider-Man was about", i.e. personal tragedy and anguish as root of Peter's life as Spider-Man
I've got about twenty bucks on my card to spare on comics. I plan to spend it wisely. I was thinking about picking up the brand new first issue of Amazing Spiderman, but I'm also interested in that new Hulk series that's out.
How about the DC comics too? I hear the new watchmen novel that's coming out might be good.
Do you viners have any recommendations?
Amazing Spider-Man #1 is just ok. Daredevil #2 is good though. Also hearing a lot of good things about Detective Comics #30.
@redlantern23: @holyk: You're missing out, I'd give it another shot if I were you. Unless of course you don't care about the MCU in general in which case I guess you shouldn't.
