Star Wars Tiering System (Canon)

The Premise and the Methodology

The Method

With my Tier system I endeavour to construct a character ranking system with maximum objectivity based upon entirely upon a variety of raw/ uninhibited attributes which will be limited to:

a. Lightsaber proficiency/ Duelling

b. Force/ TK abilities

c. Speed

d. Strength

e. Agility

f. Resourcefulness/ Tactical acumen

My particular system will be based upon established Canon only feats and, to a lesser extent, accolades: Naturally, the former receiving supremacy over the latter. Since it is based upon the respective characters raw and objective proficiency in each of the individual categories it disregards troublesome inconsistencies invoked through the inclusion of context, PIS and CIS including, but not limited to:

1. Settings

2. Amps

3. Outside influences

4. Any respective form advantages combatants may have the luxury of exploiting so as not to underestimate the combatant who doesn't claim the advantage

Using the Tier

This approach henceforth allows us to assess their true proficiency/ aptitude without their accolades being undercut or overstated due to the contextual outliers listed above.

From my tier list/ source I hope to be able to post future battle threads involving characters I believe should be very close in terms of their respective combat proficiency and give the most interesting/ closely fought engagement in order to avoid mismatches.

Also, in certain threads, context can also be added to threads to give a fairer battle if I am to place a skilled combatant against one of a somewhat lower combative proficiency:

i.e. Maul vs ROTJ Vader would likely favour Vader, however Maul vs Vader (ANH) or with TK restrictions would perhaps provide a more challenging duel for Vader... or Fisto vs Ventress would favour Asajj whereas Fisto vs Ventress vs Ki-Adi-Mundi may favour Fisto due to his Shii-Cho form giving him an advantage in a combative situations that pits him against multiple opponents and omnidirectional saber strikes.

I do believe that, in terms of assessing a character’s (or a selections of characters) relative combat proficiency and skill, Tiering is more than likely the most exact we will ever get in what is, by its own nature, an imprecise and subjective topic. I accept that Tiering is not an exact science, but if it was, and all characters were to be undoubtedly and rigidly ranked there would be little reason to post matchups/ battles at all. And where would be the fun in that?

Hopefully, this one will be a little more precise and a lot more objective without being afflicted by battle thread commonalities such as bias, preconception, CIS and PIS

Tier Descriptors

God Tier -

T10 – Representative of the pinnacle of all force and saber-duelling adepts, these practitioners are among the most elite and prodigious force sensitives in the history of the Star Wars galaxy

T9 - Unparalleled practitioners of both the force and/or the lightsaber to such a degree that they are almost peerless in the entire history of both the Jedi Order and the Sith , able to substantiate their uncanny natural ability through the achievement of unprecedented feats of duelling proficiency, technical knowledge , mastery of multiple forms, skill, speed, strength and resilience.

T8 - Amongst a dozen of the greatest Jedi/Sith ever produced by the Jedi Order (or other parties, i.e. the Sith) in recorded history with sufficient proficiency in the force and /or lightsaber duelling to place them among a select group of the finest warriors to have existed in the history of the Star Wars galaxy

T7 - Amongst the greatest Jedi of their Era, far more combatively proficient and skilled than the average Jedi Master with many decades devoted to the mastery of their craft and years of combat experienced; moulded and refined to become some of the most resilient and deadly persons in history through a relentless era of turbulence and war during the waning years of the Republic

T6 - The average Jedi Knight/ Master (Though combative skill can fluctuate depending on experience, size, age and force sensitivity) or a highly skilled combatant, seasoned by years of combat experience and complete masteryof their selected weapon(s) and/or other equipment

T5 - Professionally trained and skilled combatant able to engage in combat with maximum efficiency and a disciplined control over their arsenal with a minimum of five years combat experience

This is my current Tier System and is my fourth draft as of yet. Some character placements are only preliminary and are liable to change e.g.

According to the new Canon; when it comes to Agen and Tinn I'm relatively unsure and their placement and is only preliminary as they have no substantiated Canon feats hence why I have placed them where their Legends counterparts would be. This is to avoid people asking why they are so low down or not on the list at all and I'm going off the logic that usually (other than Vos) the canon counterparts tend to be in the same tier as they Legends counterparts (once they receive new feats) so its just a rough logic at the moment but I may consider moving them down...

Anyway...

Any suggestions are welcome and I will update the Tier as I think necessary dependent upon your reasoning. Also, I am open to adding any characters I have forgotten - There are a few I recognise have been left off but I believe their positions to be rather dubious due to the limited canon feats they currently hold - Some of these include:

  • Sora Bulq
  • Ahsoka Tano (Rebels/ Fulcrum)
  • Tera Sinube
  • Madame Jocasta Nu

Furthermore, as new feats come as the new Canon expands I will change a characters position as and when new material gives them new feats and/or acolades

Thanks in advance for any help/ advice/ input

Also, Thanks to @brightsteel, @thevivas and @silver2467 for your input/ recommendations
