Origins of the Imperium of Man
Long ago, an ancient and highly developed race favoured by the dragon gods called the Masari developed in a distant galaxy. They resembled humanity in the same way that the earliest primates resemble us. They were lovers of beauty and spirituality; devout followers of the Dragon gods and the Primordials, and to them a Dragon was a creature far more sacred and precious than any other form of life, but despite these beliefs their technology, magic, and psychic prowess was developed to a great degree. They decided to share their gifts with the universe at large, and went from world to world, uplifting many races, but always reshaping them to resemble the Masari. The Novians for example; were originally a race of what humans would call "Sapient Terror birds" before the Masari altered them to resemble their mammalian forms.
They visited the Earth some two hundred and fifty thousand years ago, and they took the hairy, ugly bipedal apes that were humanity's ancestors and altered them to make them beautiful like they were. They gave a few select groups some of their technology in exchange for following their beliefs. One Masari ship stayed on the Earth, but the rest left the world in search of more to share the gift of civilization with. Eventually, the Masari would meet the species that would make up the core of the Hierarchy; a civilization already at a spacefaring level, but one threatening to self destruct as they were desperate for resources their part of the universe couldn't provide anymore due to their voracious industry.
The Masari gave them what they needed to survive, but when they tried to alter the forms of the many species; seeing their skinny, mouthless, large brained forms among other displeasing shapes as hideous; the Hierarchy rose up against the Masari who in retaliation closed off their entire observable universe off to them. But a hundred thousand years ago, after ten thousand years of war with something known as the thought sin, the Masari simply vanished. But their other uplifted races began to develop, though in the case of humanity, only certain enclaves of the species were given the full gifts, if inferior to the original, gifts of the Masari. The most prominent of these would be the Astartes, lead by one Gabriel Thule, who would lead his order to sheperd mankind throughout the ages, fighting menaces mankind was better off not knowing about as they spread across the stars to form the Starbourne Imperium.
The Astartes and the Imperium is founded on the principle that Mankind in all of it's forms is destined to go forth in a grand crusade and unite all the multiverse into one, benevolent empire where there will be no further need for strife. While the alien does not have mankind's destiny, the Alien and the mutant is welcome to join humanity in it's glorious quest to bring peace through power to the whole of the universe and beyond. But soon they encountered their mortal foe; the Black Hand, lead by the vessel of the dark scion of time Alderymora; Vrakmul.
And for two hundred and fifty thousand years the Astartes and Black Hand would wage war, even as the rest of mankind fully developed; the Astartes remained hidden until it could no longer do so; leaving the Earth save for a token guard force in the year two thousand, but not before they took with them an orphaned boy from Maple Valley; Washington.
The High Queen
Lady Anna del Maria (a rough translation of her Draconic name), is a member of the Imperial Royal family by marriage. Born on Chiron to one of the new noble families of the fledgling Imperium as it was uplifted by the Masari and began to expand, she already had a great deal of power from her mother being half feathery true dragon and her father being a Celestial, granting her the wings and angelic visage she's most associated with. She took the path of the Warrior-priest and General, leading parts of the Imperium of Man's boundless military to conquer galaxies by the bucket load.
As she rose through the ranks, she was eventually declared to be a saint and an Alpharii, the leader of an Order of the Astartes (also known as the Knightly orders) coming to command the Angels of Fury order. Known for it's tactics relying on air superiority, extreme mobility, and constant, brutal offense right in the enemy's face, never giving them pause, quarter or the slightest room to breathe, let alone think or strategize. They honed their righteous zeal and fury for the cause of the advancement of the Primordial's message of freedom and equality and their adoration for their religion and their emperor.
The Human Imperium was a just and fair place, tolerating religions other than that enshrined by the state and welcoming in Aliens and being largely free of discrimination of all stripes. The average person lived in post-scarcity comfort, and the state was and is still a model of exemplary social justice. Thanks to the Imperium's focus on rehabilitation and poverty fighting methods of dealing with organized crime, organized crime didn't exist and most other criminals could be returned to society in an entirely functional manner rather quickly. It also brought the Eldar and Tau and their associated polities into it's civilization as protectorates.
Maria herself was renown for her motherly nature to her soldiers and the people, as well as her devout and deep beliefs in the creed of the Mantle of Responsibility, adulation of the Masari, veneration of the dragon gods, and worship of the Primordials. And of course, the destiny of mankind to one day take the Mantle and guide the universe and beyond into a new age of peace and prosperity. As she rose through the ranks, she caught the attention of one of the sons of the Kaetzar, the Holy Emperor himself; Varitus. Varitus, smitten by her, began to court her.
After some time spent getting to know him, she did in fact decide to marry him. Being wedded to a prince of the royal family had it's perks, but she was mostly in it for the love rather than the power. She bore him quite a number of children, and the two continued to spearhead the Imperium of Man's expansion into billions of observable universe bubbles. Together, the two helped turn the Imperium of Man into not just the first, but the most powerful human created polity to have ever existed in the universe. But then came the treachery of Xaraghoul, who's betrayal lead to much of the Imperium defecting to the forces of Chaos.
The Imperial Civil war was a long and bloody conflict that saw the human Imperium tear itself apart in ten thousand years of conflict before finally ending in the climactic siege of Chiron. The battle was bloody and brutal, and in the end, Xaraghoul fought his adoptive father to decide whether the way of the Primordials or the way of Chaos would be used to battle the Black hand. Maria herself fought long and hard at the siege, side by side with her husband to preserve the intention of the primordials. Finally, Gabriel Thule gathered the strength to repulse his wayward son and all his fleets, at the cost of crippling him beyond any healing powers or regenerative abilities capacity to restore him, so tainted were the injuries dealt by his traitorous son.
Maria and Varitus had to inter their Emperor into a sanctified Dragoon sarcophagus made of the purest divine steel, where they were pronounced high king and high queen of the Imperium, to be the head of Government and next in line for head of state whenever the Kaetzar needed to rest, which was extremely often. The two decided to carry on the legacy of the great father into the millenia. In time, the Imperium would be sealed off by the Masari to protect it against the encroaching Thoughtsin, and the Imperium soon made deals with the Jiracho to access their cure to the Thoughtsin just in case.
She watched as the Masari activated the rings and decimated the population of the universe to stop the thoughtsin, and observed their last remnants departing the universe in shame, but she took the step of claiming the Masari's Celestial mandate for the Imperium. For a hundred thousand years hence, she and Varitus ruled over the largest and most powerful hominid polity ever created, fighting interminable wars with the many, many enemies and foes that Hominids have acquired over the years, especially the forces of Chaos and the Black Hand. But it was the oncoming of the Hierarchy that really changed the political situation of the Imperium.
Here was a massive foe that was in many ways, the equal but opposite of the Imperium. Both were massive entities that utilized massive force to win wars. Both had histories heavily connected to the Masari. Both used extremely diverse militaries. Both had established a hegemony over many other nations. But the Hierarchy wanted to destroy everything the Masari had ever created, the very existence of hominids was hateful to the Masari, while the Imperium was a nation that claimed de jure governance over all hominids. Humans, Mutants, Novii, Eldar, any species altered in the image of the Masari or uplifted by them was considered to be under their protection.
She helped to rescue and adopted the Primalborn named Johnathan Edenson, and promised to raise him just as she would any of her other many, many children while preparing him for his duties. She trained him, loved him, nurtured him, and oversaw his development to the critical age of thirteen. She cares deeply for John in the same way that a mother loves a son, and would gladly intercede on his behalf if it meant seeing him not only achieve his destiny, but also find happiness.
When it came time for the Imperium to reveal itself to it's long lost homeworld, she established embassies on the Earth and strengthened defensive systems around the solar system, anything that tried to come at Earth would be faced with the might of the Imperium. Now, with the Hierarchy suffering under divisions and having lost it's capital, she and Varitus hope to finally end the Birthstar war and put and end to the evil of the last remaining Grand Overseer of the Hierarchy.

Additionally, she has other more conventional psionic powers, such as telekinesis, telepathy, and mind reading. However, overusing her Psyker abilities bears the perils of the warp, which can cause her injury as the power of the warp goes uncontrolled through her body. With her mind alone she is capable of devastating planets with incredible warp assaults without effort.
- Saint of fury: Each of the saints of the Astartes are given dominion over a certain few powers. She was granted control over fury. All negative emotion bends it's will to her, and she can either make someone crippled by the negative emotion, use it to create constructs or life, or hone it into something new, greatly magnifying someone's power or granting them new emotion based powers. - Power supreme: Maria's powers cannot be altered, diminished, or corrupted against her will no matter how powerful the manipulator is.
- Truenaming: The greatest source of her power, Maria's mastery of the arcane art of truenaming is truly vast in scale and scope. She can easily use either variation; the High Draconic Shouts with their simpler words but requirement of reflection on the meaning of the words used, or the Primal tongue speech with it's fiendishly complex pronunciation and rules of grammar. With this power she is one of the most powerful hominids to have ever been born.
- Holy being: Maria is a being of such pure good that evil beings are immensely pained by her simple presence, and just touching them is enough to kill all but the most powerful of evil beings and grievously injure those who survive. Evil effects also have severely lessened affect against her. Meanwhile, beings of good are put at ease and comfort, healing much quicker in her presence, and if she touches them, she empowers them and heals them of all ills.

Items (to be finished later)
- Crescent of fury: A Divine Steel Scythe of incredible power, this holy weapon can cleave through normal power weapons, tanks, adamantium, force-fields, daemonic weapons, flesh, bone, spirits, daemon-flesh, and stone alike with nonexistant effort. This sickle also attempts to ignite the souls of those it harms, which could instantly kill them if they fail to resist the blade. The Scythe also creates massive waves of cutting force with each swing, essentially making a wave crescent of pure cutting power that cuts with the same power as her scythe that expands outwards though without the instant death effect similar to the concept of the "sword beam." In addition, the sickle massively increases her strength and durability greatly making her a virtually unmatched beast of combat. It is bound to her, and can only be lifted by those she deems worthy. Anyone else not only can't lift it, but is treated as if they are being cut by it every moment they hold it.
- Armor Angelic: Maria posseses a suit of primordial blessed Divine Steel Powered armor Armor, which massively increases her strength and durability, and laughs at most anything. While it is practically impervious, it does not quite block out all impact, so concussive force is the best way to defeat her. Anti-reality is capable of penetrating through her armor though.
- White Rosarius: The white Rosarius acts as a force field, The shield has three sets of three layers, the first set perfectly deflects 75% of all incoming attacks, the second set absorbs 75% of the damage, and the third set is a typical "collapses after sustaining enough damage" shield. It also causes those who are evil who approach her to start burning from the inside as the weight of all their crimes comes pressing down on them.
