the secret origins of superboy but without superboy? 0

After a long slumber I return with wit and banter and all those other things that the cool popular peoples have… ok that last part (from the word “wit” to “have”) was a lie. But I have indeed returned to cast upon you my thoughts on Scott Lobdells’ last issue (so far) of Superboy with issue #19. The plot overview is simple: who is harvest, what’s his objective and how does he plan on achieving it + the secret behind Superboys DNA. Now as a singular issue and a self-contained story this issue wo...

Adventure Comics #247, an indepth look. (very long) 0

Adventure comics #247, and in depth look by a Legion fan.Now I’ve been a Legion of Super-Heroes fan from the moment I decided to get into comics. The first series I picked up was the Legion of Super-Heroes, which might seem odd to most as there are a lot of comic fans who comment on how hard it is to get into Legion and their (multiple) continuity. Yet I decided to jump in, head first without a parachute and discovered that I really loved the characters, the setting and the general all around fe...

Solomon Grundy, took ill on Thursday, grew worse on Friday, died on Saturday, buried on Sunday, came back on the Monday. Thus starts the tale of Solomon Grundy. With the world falling into death and decay from the power of the Grey it’s time for Earth 2’s new heroes to band together to take on this threat, but whether they are able to fight along-side each other or against one and other is yet to be seen as the threat of Solomon Grundy hit’s earth 2 #4 hard.5 years prior to the current events (d...

After being hunted by N.O.W.H.E.R.E, surviving the culling and escaping a mysterious island populated by dinosaurs you’d think that the Teen Titans would be able to find themselves some down time. Yet one of the issues with being a super powered teen is that the concept of down-time doesn’t exist, especially when you’re grouped together with a bunch of other super-powered Teens. So what happens when Wonder Girl loses control? Let’s pick up Teen Titans #11 and find out.We open up to Wonder Girl l...

Steam-powered death machine. 0

The stability of late 19 century Gotham is less than perfect. With a corrupt police force and mayor not to mention the presence of two powerful secret crime organizations poised ready to wipe each other out the light at the end of the tunnel seems far off. Yet our three western heroes find themselves mixed up in all this chaos as the Court of Owls and the Crime Bible fire the first shots of a gang war to shape the future of Gothams’ criminal underworld in All-Star Western #11.We open up with Ama...

When reading Geoff Johns Justice League set 5 years after their formation I can’t help but feel that the “5 years later” / present day setting of the series is a mishap seeing how the characters interact with one and other and how much they know about one and other. But before I get to that let’s catch up on what’s been going on with earths greatest heroes in Justice League #11.Continuing from where we left off the Justice League finds themselves incapacitated on their watchtower after graves at...

The Light of the Green Lantern 1

When reading earth 2 #3 I could not help but think of the phrase “women in refrigerators”, though I’ll get back to that later. So we once again return to Earth 2, a world with no superman, no Batman and no Wonder Woman as the distant threat of an approaching unknown evil has urged various forces into brining new heroes to this world. So let us shed our light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light in earth 2#3.Picking up from last issues explosive conclusion Alan Scott finds h...

Oh man, I loves me my Red Robin. My favouret of all the robins in the word be Tim Drake. Oh boy I wonder how he’s going to deal with the Talons in this issue of Batman the Dark Knight which ties into “Night of the Owls”, well lets dig into Batman the Dark Knight #9 and …… no, just no. I can’t wait until the third paragraph, where I usually rip into the story and art to deal with the major issue revolving this issue. What is that issue you may ask? Well it’s this. DC’s Solicit advertised this iss...

The boss lady didn't say nothing 'bout no aliens! 0

Home comings are always strange. Take me for instance, I came home from University full of knowledge and drink only to find out that my parents had thrown away my bed, filled my room with crap (not my crap, just to let you know but other assorted crap) and pretty much left me as a nomad in my own home. Now to be fair that’s peanuts compared to what Jason Todd has to go through in this issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws, but at least (as far as we know) he has a bed. So lets dive right on into Red...

Wowzer. I just gotta say, Paul Levitz just doesn’t know how to disappoint when dishing out some Legion. Seriously, if I were the smoking kind I would have lit one up right after reading this. Wow. So let’s take a look at Legion of Super-Heroes #8. ~~~ ~~~  We open up on the planate Zardon, a medi-centre to be precise, where 4 super powered criminals are raiding the centre looking for the “gold master”, a COMPUTO circite lent to the centre by legionnaire Braniac 5. As the four locate the “gold ma...

If Batman sprains his ankle, we'll call you 4

Last month saw the justice league arrive in the present day (relatively) and I think that the all round consensus Justice league #8? pfft, bi**h this be Green arrow. was that it was a tad bit rocky in execution. I can say that the execution in this issue is better, but by how much? Let’s look at Justice League #8 and find out.~~~ ~~~So the issue opens up with Steve trevors (long time supporting character for Wonder Woman, possibly the closest thing we get to a main character in Justice League)...

no worries indeed 1

One aspect that people seem to forget about batman, despite how many times it appears is that Batman (no matter the title) is a story of family. It started with the loss of family on that one fateful night, and even now we can label characters as being part of the Bat-family. Yet the dynamic between Batman and Robin is developing the family relation, not of the bat-family, but of the Wayne family watching Bruce Wayne, the son of the late Dr. Thomas and Martha Wayne becoming Bruce Wayne the Fathe...

ITS OVER!!! *Pulls out a party hat, a party popper and a party whistle* Oh what a joyous occasion this is. Finally Mister Terrific can be taken out of the hands of Eric Wallace and placed into better hands (hopefully) in Earth-2. Oh what a joyous occasion this is. Oh, how the church bells in the village shall ring in celebration, and how the children shall dance around the maypole while the rest of the village sings in delight. Ahhhhh. Ok so it’s pretty obvious that this series and I didn’t get ...

'Least we've moved past the hostility phase of our relationship 0

With May approaching DC is set up for two major crossover events to take place. “Night of the owls” taking place in all Batman related books (and All-star western), and “the Culling” taking place in the young justice line of books, crossing over Teen Titans, Superboy and Legion Lost. I am cannot wait for both of these events, seeing as I practically follow only young justice and batman titles, but what I would really like to ask is “why legion lost?”. Let’s see if I can find out these answers in...

In a series where the main idea is having powering powered by RAGE!!! That the characters would have short attention spans (or short fuses should I say) which would forcefully progress the story quickly to get things done. Yet I’m surprised at the slow passing that Red Lanterns has taken, moving things slower than expected to give us a more rounded understanding of the problems of being a Red Lantern and the danger that comes to them. Unfortunately there’s “taking it slow” and there’s moving at ...

For those of you who ever wondered where I went for the past *mumbles* months, I shall direct you to the location of a non-stopping cat with pop-tart body, flying through space with a rainbow wake and proclaim myself champion of “longest watching of it ever”. For those of you who didn’t care “why no love guys? Well folks, with this weeks releases of new number ones from DC Red Hood and the Outlaws has been one of the most talked about among DC fan boys and girls as the former Robin, turned dead, turned alive and then turned psychopathic foil for batman leads his own team of, so far, two former Titans on missions and jobs around the world. What is there to be said about Dick Grayson which hasn’t been said before. He’s an acrobat, the first Robin, founding member and first leader of the Teen Titans. He Lead the outsiders as Nightwing and after final crisis became Batman when Bruce was busy travelling through time in something which was not shaped like a blue phone box…… Oh and he’s also a playa. Is there a decimal point hidden somewhere amongst those zeroes? No. Oh. Slugs and snails and puppy-dogs tails. Those are the things that little boys are made of…. But if your thinking of adding a bit of Kryptonian DNA into that mix, then your going to need a bigger and more complex cook book and a kitchen funded secretly by the government. Then you’ll have all of the problems of not being able to create a whole Kryptonian, and need to add some Human DNA into the bowl, and then things get so complicated that you’d start regretting not using Chemical-X to bring the Bo...

Holy Cow its Legion Lost! I loved that storyline! It had it all. A hopeless situation, Character studies, Element lad, drama and sadness. It’s hailed as one of the best, if not “the best” Legion of super-heroes stories ever. *flips through pages*……… Wait a minute! So with the announcements of DC’s new 52 titles I was so happy to hear that not only was I going to get my fix of Legion of super-heroes, but double it with a second Legion series “Legion Lost” (which apart from the title, has no conne...

Tell me if you haven’t heard this concept before. A playboy, super-intelligent business man who’s undergone a tragedy in his life, and who then decides to use his wealth and intellect to help others as a masked hero. If light bulbs have flashed over your heads and the worlds “Wayne” or “Stark” come to mind than you’ve obviously been reading comics from at least 1939, or have been to the cinema in the past 5 years. Mister Terrific has been a long standing member of the JSA and who really had his ...

One, Bruce Wayne has difficulty fighting a never ending war against crime in one city in east cost USA, not to mention the rest of the country, and yet Batwing has been given the jurisdiction of an entire continent which has, as of this moment in time, 55 countries and 7 European controlled over-seas territories which extends from the northern hemisphere, across ...

Dick would call this introducing a rogue element. 0

I think that it’s no surprise that I, along with a few other people, haven’t exactly been to keen on the  Titans #38 Titans series, especially when it came to the “Villains for hire” story. The idea itself of Deathstroke leading his own team of Titans seemed like an awesome idea that radiated possibilities, or so I thought. Unfortunately their first move was to kill off a good hero character in a one-shot introduction, which didn’t play well with fans of Ryan Cho. The series then went down hill...

If you haven’t noticed by now, I love the Legion of Super-Heroes, and in this current run of the Legion of Super-Heroes #16 series by Paul Levitz we’ve seen worlds explode, prison breaks, xenophobia, villains becoming heroes and a leadership change. Tim Drake is an entity onto himself and I’m glad that nobody I’ve spoken to has made a comment Red Robin #26 about how Tim becoming Red Robin is like Dick becoming Nightwing, for as we all know from reading these series, these are two completely different personas and identities all together. Through this series we’ve seen Tim go to great lengths and great depths to reach his goal, from entering the lions den and working for the league of shadows to faking his own assassination.   It’s a guaranteed chance that we’ve all been in the wrong place at the wrong time and as Power Gril #24 a result have been branded something that you’re not at some point in our lives. Some times they’re small occurrences that are merely awkward situations, others far more serious. The school security cameras had caught them doing it,...

The life of a Teen Titan is a hard one, especially if you’re their parents. I mean lets look at the  Teen Titans #94 list. Most of them are either dead, living in the future, mercenaries, demons or are arch enemies due to the fact that their child was the amalgamation of their DNA in a secret research lab. So with Cassi, aka Wonder Girl, who’s mother is perfectly alive, living in the present, not a gun for hire, not a demon and hasn’t given her DNA for cloning something has to happen to he...

I believe that this is true for the most of us, that when we enter a gadget shop, or toy shop or  Batgirl #20 any show with cool new things with buttons or levers we must play with them. Sure the signs say “don’t touch” but our inner child interprets that as “touch now! Play with it! They want you to!” This little flaw of mankind is also apparently true of superheroes. Or at least the new bubbly kind that’s now running around Gotham City with a new set of toys kindly offered to her by Batm...

It’s universally acknowledged that there is no harder time in a person’s life than that time spent at High Teen Titans #91  school, being judged by your appearance, friends, likes and dislikes.
