Hand of Deception 0

Wow, I know they’re heroes and all but unlike their slightly uppity Avengers counterpart, the New Avengers are definitely a group you DON’T want to screw with. Between Wonder Man’s ambush and Osborn’s two-pronged attack, this team of superheroes has gotten completely fed up with the villains attacking them in their own house! Following an embarrassing beating by the new Dark Avengers, Cage & co. are confronted by American military forces right on their own front lawn, and let’s just say it w...

School's Out! 0

I was already loving the new direction that this book was taking before this issue even happened and after this all I can say is…AWESOME! I’m a huge fan of the Avengers West Coast so I was thrilled when they brought us back to the old compound and even added Hawkeye to the faculty to give it a real AWC feel, but the one thing I wasn’t feeling was all the extraneous character that were supposed to be coming and going. Well, this issue took care of that plus a few of the other issues (albeit minor...

Date With a Devil 1

This series just gets better and better every issue! These last few issues since ReGenesis have been just amazing just amazing, total throwbacks to the feel of the original series from the 80’s. There’s lots of campy humor, character development and quirky mutant “surrogate family” fun all around. To be honest I wasn’t sure that I like this line-up of the mutants when it first rolled out after Schism (after all there’s no Cannonball. No Boom Boom. No Wolfsbane! And they threw Doug Ramsey in and ...

Hope's Falling 0

All I can say is – it’s about damn time! For months now, Hope Summers has been walking around like she’s god’s gift to the mutant race and like she can do whatever she wants since no one can stop her. And she really crossed the line when she took physical control of Kenji to defend herself from Laurie that was the last straw completely. Being Cable’s daughter, and therefore Cyclops’ granddaughter, doesn’t really carry much weight when you treat your grandfather like garbage and challenge his aut...

Otherworld War 0

Jesus, remember in Excalibur (Vol. 1) when the Captain Britain Corps was a bunch of limey blokes who hung around Otherworld, a kooky land where magic reigned and Merlin occasionally caused his silly mischief? Yeah well that’s over. This isn’t your parents Otherworld kids! In this new magical realm we have warring factions, a brutal Captain Britain Corp who does just punish criminals but erases them from existence, and a sane Jaime Braddock has more than a little bit of influence. Also Deadpool s...

Mass Exodus 0

So I'm finally getting the hang of the new status quo of Post-Schism X-life. For the last few years Uncanny was the steadfast flagship title while a lot of interpersonal relationships were dealth with in X-men Legacy. But how do you maintain that with those two titles occurring on opposite ends of the country? EASY! Make Wolverine and the X-men the new East Coast flagship and split up the personal relationship development between Generation Hope and X-men (Vol. 3)! Well since Legacy's format has...

A Storm's Not Coming 0

I don’t often write negative reviews. Usually if I am willing to take the time to write something, it’s mostly positive with perhaps a few specific criticisms. Not this time. I was so wholeheartedly disappointed by this issue that it spurred me to write a full review on it.First, let’s start with something general. The general sloppiness of the writing and the handling of the team’s character itself. Like, Hawkeye and Spider-woman’s “relationship” for example. This couple got together hot and he...

Wake Me When the Humans Are Dead 0

WOW! What…a great issue. After an exciting and exhausting opening arc, the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning decided to take it easy for some at home R and R (Recoup and Repair)…which of course never goes QUITE as smoothly as everyone hopes. Additionally we saw the school’s brand new additions, which are all but guaranteed to shake things up (in the case of Krakoa literally). All this and a glimpse into the future we’ve never seen!Let’s start off with some new additions first shall we? Well w...

A Less Than Wonderful Tale 0

OK it took forever but they finally released the next part of this story!! Just to make sure everyone is all caught up, the first part of this Revengers storyline was released last year in the New Avengers annual, and we were promised a continuation in (what we thought was 2011’s) Avengers Annual. So we waited and waited…and then waited some more. And now it’s finally here! Was it worth the wait? Eh…maybe…not a terrible story, but I wonder if it was worth the 6 month wait we endured to get to it...

Parent's Sacrifice 0

IT’S BACK, IT’S BACK, IT’S BACK! I just can’t say it enough because I love this series so much and it pains me that, after waiting for these issues to come out for so long, it’s almost over. Where to even start...so much happens in this storyline that each and every issue is PACKED with incredible-ness! I’ve read some online boards where people say this book is too drawn out and too much going on at once. Well to those people I say HA! What are you talking about? If it had 4 issues and came out ...

Hellfire Comes Calling 0

This is going to be a bit of a short review this time guys because, to be truthful, nothing really struck me too strongly this week (for good or bad). So I picked the issue that I felt like the most happened…this one! For what it’s worth, a lot went down for the Lights in this issue, I guess I wasn’t thrilled because typically the storytelling in this book is a bit underwhelming… Sorry James Asmus! But moving on, a lot still did go down here so let’s take a look at what transpired.Sebastian Shaw...

These Kids Have Issues 1

WOW! Two words. Heavy. Issue. I know I say this every few months now but Avengers Academy just KEEPS getting better! I wasn’t feeling the loss of my favorite character, Veil, and I was somewhat nervous that she would leave a huge hole in the group, but who has time to worry about the missing vapor girl when all this craziness is happening?! X-23 joins the team? Eh…we’ll see. New gays in the Marvel Universe? Always welcome when it’s done properly. The return of Hybrid? Amazing. And the actual sto...

Defenders Assemble! 0

And the fallout from Fear Itself continues! The big difference this time is that it didn’t annoy the hell out of me to read it! Since I have barely recovered from a nasty bout of Crossover Fatigue I am not really looking to keep reading about this storyline anymore then I have to. In fact, I almost didn’t even buy this comic since there isn’t even anyone in it that I regularly read (I mean at least Secret Avengers has Beast), but after reading Marvel Point One and all the promo information that’...

Something Sinister This Way Comes 0

And the fun keep coming! This new volume is already becoming everything that the mutant superhero team should be! For too long I watched this book decline, odd stories, pointless team-ups and then the final straw was when they took the "flagship" status away from this book and gave it to Astonishing X-men. From there it was a slow decline into Dark X-men nonesense, silly mutant "plagues" (that don't hold a candle to the Legacy Virus), just pointless story after pointless story as they tried to b...

An Island Getaway 0

Its official! This new title and its KILLER creative team have won me over! I really was dead set against this series as there just didn’t seem to be a need for it. With the swarm of X-books out there right now I felt like Wolverine’s new school could have appropriated one of them and made it their new home (like Legacy or Astonishing). After a wonderful first issue, the Grey School student body kicked the action into high gear, and with so much going on they even still found time to develop som...

Shattered Roster! 0

I have some definite mixed feelings about this one folks! Some really awesome developments happened this issue, but then again some really questionable (if not downright douchey) decisions were also made. They stretched this roster change out for 2 full issues, and all I can say is I was definitely thrown by some of the people that did and did not make the cut.For one thing, I am intrigued by the U.S.Agent scene at the very beginning. They haven’t really been showing John Walker very much lately...

Not Your Average Joe 0

Can I just say that I LOVE Magneto lately? When he went all “good guy” I was a little skeptical to say the least. Like “Didn’t we already do this once before?” But no we haven’t! He may be one of the X-men now and dutifully following Cyclops’ orders, but he really isn’t all THAT changed from his super villain days. It’s not like last time he joined the team and he suddenly became this new and improved good person with feelings and a heart. NOT EVEN CLOSE. No he is still a hardcore mutant advocat...

The X-tinction Team 0

Uncanny X-men Reborn! As ReGenesis chugs along, knocking out one hit after another, I find myself losing all my reservations about this reboot! Just like Wolverine & the X-men set up Wolverine’s entire side, this issue gave us the low down on all the mutants who sided with Cyclops to stay on Utopia. First and foremost, the new team is amazing! Hope deserves to be on a regular team (in addition to, not instead of, her own) and after 40 years of being around, in one form or another, Magik fina...

School's in Session 0

LOVED IT! Completely flawless, and everything we could have hoped for. I was hesitant to say the very least when it came to this entire splitting of the X-men idea. I just didn’t think it was necessary to have two completely separate and opposing camps of the same mutant team, going by the same name, with the same general set of ideas (the betterment of mutant kind). But opening day Jean Grey Institute for Higher Learning was absolutely everything it could have been and more! Plus it honestly re...

The Curtain Falls 0

And there you have it, Uncanny X-men (Vol. 1) is officially history. Marvel has finally pulled the plug on its longest unbroken run. Yeah Avengers, Spider-man, and Fantastic Four have been around longer but they all at one time or another (if not several times) have been rebooted or renumbered since their inception, while Uncanny X-men has gone unscathed since the 60’s (except that one period where they were cancelled, but they came right back with the same numbering at issue #94). I have long g...

All New, All Different Mutant ReGenesis 0

Here it is folks! What we've been waiting for since the beginning of the year when they first started releasing promotional pictures...the X-men have split! And what a split it is...To start off I loved that this entire story was set in between the last few pages of Schism #5 as opposed to continuing on with the story from when Wolverine left with his group. Instead of moving right on with the story, the writers took the time to walk us step by step through the dissolution of the mutant empire. ...

Ready? Break! 0

WORTH IT! I have to tell you the truth, after the stupid prelude nonsense, I was really worried about this storyline. I thought it was going to end up being stupid and lost in the Fear Itself shuffle, but starting with issue #4 this series really kicked in...but WOW! The intense fight between these two brothers-in-arms was epic to say the very least. And to be quite frank with you, at this point who even cared about that stupid killer robot? In fact, I was annoyed we didn't see it get destroyed ...

Schools Out For Summer 0

The best issue of this entire series to date! When this series first started, it was in a tie with Secret Avengers as my most my likely to get dropped comic series. The kids were weird, and sometimes a little boring, and the staff just seemed like a bunch of Avengers and New Warriors castoffs that Marvel had no place for. If not for Justice, Speedball and Hank Pym I would have probably stopped buying this before it even had a chance to take off. But take off it did!!I have watched these kids rea...

And So It Begins... 1

It took 4 prelude issues, 3 main issues and a tie-in, but its finally happened! The Schism has begun and with a vengeance! While my reviews are usually about the good the bad and the mutated ugly, this time there wasn't a whole lot of bad. I mean I have a few questionable thought about how they are going about this whole Schism thing, but there were no blatant epic fails in this one.The Bad: One Word. Sentinels. There's something about giant killer robots that, to me, just get dull and played ou...

Spotlight On...X-Factor 3

Let me start of by saying that I've really enjoyed the "Point One" issue from Marvel this year.  They did exactly what we were told they were going to do, gave easy jumping on points for new readers while also moving forward with the storyline for the veteran fans.  Now of course some have been better then other, and for the most part the contained stories have been pretty weak, but they did their job and did it well!  I particularly enjoyed the Uncanny X-men Point One issue where Magneto ...

Starved for Apocalypse 0

Maybe it’s the sun I got this weekend or the residual glowing feeling from the Stevie Nicks concert I went to this weekend, but this issue was excellent!   I was honestly starting to feel like the entire Archangel/Apocalypse storyline was getting played out, yet again, but this installment really brought it back!   It’s one thing for Apocalypse to take on a new host, as we’ve seen him do in the past, but usually that new host just becomes a new Apocalypse.   Not this time folks!!   This isn’t j...

The Forever Storyline 0

Honestly where to begin?  Some may call my psychic (or just psycho) but I sort of called this last month.  After thoroughly enjoying 2 issues of Inhumans, I suspected that once we got back to the Future Foundation, the storylines would be a bit lackluster...and lo and behold!  ::sigh:: OK lets break it down... The Bad - I typically do the good first but I'd rather get this out of the way.  This book all but requires you to know your fair share of Fantastic Four history.  I thought that wi...

From the Mouths of Babes 0

And there it is folks!   It took a 3 issues (plus a 4 part prequel series that gave us next to nothing), but there it is.   The Schism that is going to cause the X-men to split in half created over:   Sending a child into battle and her becoming a murderer. Scott Summers has always been the calm, collected (if a bit cold and withdrawn) leader of the X-men.   He has been forced to make unbelievable choices for the sake of his entire species and he’s had to make them while looking at the big pictu...

I'll Be Right Back... 2

Like many of the issues of this exhausting crossover, this book was kind of a mixed bag.  So let's breakit down shall we? The Bad: Well let's start with the 5 page recap (6 if you count the actual recap at the beginning).  I mean did we really need to spend the first 5 pages of story showing that Steve is Cap again, Tony is drunk and begging with Odin for weapons, and Thor is getting the snot beat out of him by Hulk and Thing...we saw all this!  For all my bitching and moaning, I (and I su...

The Woman Behind the Man 0

As you all know, I am not a huge fan of these extraneous crossover tie-ins and I feel like a lot of them are just pointless attempts to get more money out of us by slapping a banner on a comic that you wouldn’t normally buy in hopes that us completionists will want the whole storyline.   What might surprise everyone is that I, with all my mutant obsession and infatuation, am not at all into Wolverine (much like I am not into Deadpool).    I see no reason that he needs to be on four teams, have t...

Meanwhile, Back on the Ranch... 0

First off I'll say that I have been really enjoying the alternating stories running in this title.  Keeps the action from getting too stale when its just the same group of people always running around together.  And by splitting the Astonishing team up, it gives way for a few things to happen that might otherwise not have.  Like, for example, Storm back in the leader seat!  Or Beast running with the X-men again (since Scott and Logan aren't there)!  Here's the minutia that some newer re...

Fear Itself: Dumbpool (Spoilers) 0

In the words of Chelsea Handler," What...a piece of $#!t"  This entire series is just a blatant ploy for more money.  And I don't just mean its not necessary to the story like a few other parts of this epic sized crossover. No, this one actually has nothing at all to do with the storyline of Fear Itself.  In fact the only relation to the actual Fear Itself storyline is that Deadpool knows about the hammers and is parading around a fake one.  They even had a chance to make it work, once the Walru...

Fear Itself Half Time Show (Some Spoilers) 1

This is not a review of Fear Itself #4 exactly, its more of a review of the crossover so far.  There's a lot to say about this crossover so far.  Some of it good, some of it bad, and some of it just "What were they thinking?"  I am going to get my biggest gripe out of the way right off the bat.  TOO MANY TIE-INS! If you read any my blogs pertaining to Chaos War or referencing Secret Invasion/Civil War, then you know I hate extraneous and pointless tie-ins.  That said, this is a huge storyline wi...

More Mutants! (SPOILERS) 0

OH. MY. GOD!  Well there it is ladies and gents.  The pay off we have been waiting for since the Avengers first Disassembled all wrapped up in a neat little bow.  Now bare with me, we've got a lot to cover here and I don't want to move to quickly...  The Good - We got a few really wonderful moments in this issue.   First, last issue we got Cassie rejoicing the return of her father but in this issue we got to watch him swell with pride to hear not only that his daughter is a superhero but "a good...

Minimum Carnage 1

Well I gave it all the way until the end of the series but the verdict is in: the latest exploits of Carnage and crew were underwhelming to say the least.  I was a huge fan of the Maximum Carnage crossover back in the 90's and I was thrilled to see Shriek and Doppelganger back together with Carnage for more murder and mayhem.  Unfortunately I was disappointed...  Now to be fair, my disappointment partially came from my own lack of knowledge.  Since I do not regularly read Spider-man issues, I wa...

Red Fear (Spoiler) 0

If ever there was a defining issue for a new Avenger (as opposed to a New Avenger) it was this one.  I have honestly felt that Fear Itself (just like Chaos War, Dark Reign, Secret Invasion, Civil War and House of M before it) has WAY too many extraneous tie-ins and spin-offs, after all we don't need a story arc about a team or character in their book AND a limited series about them too.  Additionally, while I have not been a huge Hulk collector over the years, I have specifically hated General R...

The Dark Age (Spoilers!!!!) 8

To be completely honest, this issue had me all over the place emotionally and with it being rife with potential and potential disaster, I read the issue with more then a little trepidation.  First and foremost, if you follow my blogs at all you know I'm a huge Jean Grey/Phoenix fan so you can imagine my reaction when I heard that "the one true Dark Phoenix was returning"...in a 5-part Iron Man storyline. HUH??  But as always I give Marvel the benefit of the doubt...  Let start with the premise.....

Kill Them With Piousness 0

I'll start by saying that I overall really enjoyed this issue.  Coming from being the quietest shyest mutant ever, Rahne has really changed over the years and it was awesome to see an issue showcase her after everything she's been through.  With that being said...I don't like how she's been acting lately.  If you read my blogs then you already know how I feel about her lately , but just to reiterate: I just cant get on board with her behavior recently.  Her response to Rictor and Shatterstar's r...

AWESOME!  I mean really what else does a book need to be awesome???  We have inner turmoil, old storylines made new and cool again, old plot threads and slightly newer plot threads weaving together, and last but not least *SPOILER ALERT* sanctimonious egomaniacs, like for example Steve Rogers, are forced to admit they DON'T know whats best!  Honestly though, this issue was amazing.  Lets go through my list I just made shall we?  First and probably most important, we finally see the tension betwe...

Future Fantastic! 0

What can I even say? It was amazing! Truly Amazing! And if you go and read any of my other reviews you'll know I don't give that kind of praise out too easily.  I was honestly expecting it to be just Fantastic Four in new costumes.  But it was so much more!  First of all lets deal with the obvioous, Spider-man.  I knew he was coming to the team and I was fine with it but to make it Johnny's last request was so touching I almost cried (which I almost did several time in this and the final Fantast...
