@arnoldoaad: No one's asking you to "care more just because she is trans." But I don't really get your "who is she" question at all. I, personally, have a pretty good read on who she is based on what she does. Y'know, the whole "show, don't tell" thing. She's someone who's looking for some kind of family, given how quickly she attaches to Barbara and James Jr. She's a caretaker, both on the micro and on the macro level, and her activism seems more to be an outgrowth of that than anything else. And the bit about the pajamas hinting at a costume isn't wish fulfillment. The artist of a comic is as much a story-teller as the writer. Even if it isn't foreshadowing of things to come, it's still placed there by the writer or the artist to tell us SOMETHING, and in this case, it creates the sense that this is a character who's tough enough to survive in Gotham, because let's be real, usually it takes a costume of some kind to survive in Gotham.

Look if you don't like Ms. Simone's writing, that's fine. I've been very critical of it myself, though I find it appealing enough that I keep coming back. But there are books that I do find to be terribly written, as you seem to with BATGIRL, and I don't waste my time cursing at strangers on the internet about them. If the reason you're cursing at me is the "bigotry" comment, like, have you read this thread? You're NOT the only person here, and there is a LOT of "OH DC WITH THEIR GAY AGENDA" straight up BIGOTRY going on in here.

@arnoldoaad: They're not important to the plot, no. They're important to establishing a supporting character's humanity, and life outside the pages of the immediate plot, maybe even subtle foreshadowing of plots to come.

Like, this is the way Ms. Simone writes. She's a lot more meticulous about her foreshadowing than people give her credit for. There are elements in the story and artwork that are used to establish things that, without any inside knowledge, I can assure you are coming, because this is how Ms. Simone's work has played out before.

Like the fact that Alysia is in political opposition to the politics of Bruce Wayne. What happens when she finds out that Barbara essentially works for his "privatized global law enforcement firm," Batman, Incorporated?

Or the fact that she's regularly been depicted armed with a bat, wearing a distinctive lightning-bolt adorned t-shirt. Beyond the visual pun, it suggests the iconography of her becoming her own costumed crime-fighter, and could be foreshadowing for things to come.

It worked like this in her WONDER WOMAN run. It worked like this in SECRET SIX and BIRDS OF PREY. She plays the long game, and all signs point to Alysia becoming more and more a part of that.

And if there's a "girlinfourcolors" running around Bleeding Cool, it's not me.

@arnoldoaad: I guess you missed the part where she's an artist, who tends bar by night to support her painting by day. Or the part where she's an activist, involved with the Occupy Gotham movement. Or the part where she loves to cook, inspired in large part due to her mom's influence back in Singapore.

We literally know more about her than we do about half the Teen Titans, and they're the STARS OF THEIR BOOK. Just because you haven't noticed it doesn't mean the character progression hasn't been there.

And your "used to have a penis" line is REAL classy. Makes everyone feel real welcome contributing here.

I love how people are saying Alysia's coming out has been "forced" when she has LITERALLY been trying to come out to Barbara since they moved in together in THE VERY FIRST ISSUE OF THE SERIES.

Seriously, this moment has been building for almost two years. Two years spent developing her into a fully realized character, with passions and politics all her own, with identities that have nothing to do with her being trans. But this is somehow "forced."

C'mon, people, take your bigotry somewhere else.

Personally, I would love to see someone (preferably a writer who understands the realities of living in the DRC a bit better than Judd Winick) take David Zavimbe and spin him off into a series based on The Kingdom. While the original team has mostly died off, the concepts and designs for them were really cool, and I could definitely see Zavimbe leading a team of young African heroes who take up those now empty mantles.

As well written as Azarello's run is, I'd REALLY like to know what his reasoning is for making the Amazons murdering rapists. I'm really hoping it turns out to be a lie Hephaestus told Diana, because as it stands, it's a really disgusting addition to Wonder Woman's mythology.

I actually just made a post about this on my website:

I thought I’d hate their pairing off, but so far I’m interested. It’s been a little too much “Superman teaching Wonder Woman what it means to be human” so far, though, a plot line I am well and truly done with. I’d like to see more of what she can teach Superman, something we saw a little of in this week’s Young Romance #1. More of that in the main Justice League title, please. It should be just as easy to give Superman the title of “Wonder Woman’s boyfriend” (centering her in the relationship) as it has been for the comics media to label her “Superman’s girlfriend.”

DNA testing is also prohibitively expensive in a lot of cases. I'd imagine most of the Gotham Police Department's budget goes toward hazard pay keeping cops on the job after the Joker attacks.

I would prefer a nice, big, Deluxe Edition for this series. The story doesn't really break at the six issue mark, it breaks at twelve, which would be perfect for a Deluxe Edition. Issue 13 is also a decent (though not perfect) jumping on point, too, where the second Deluxe Edition could start.

I have similar feelings about Scott Snyder's Batman series. I would LOVE a Court of Owls/Night of the Owls Deluxe Edition, as again, it works much better as one long, twelve chapter story.
