Spectre has seriously high feats and seriously low ones. My mutt dog has more feats than fulcrum, but hes "supposed" to be awesome.

There really is no version where x-men dont win. Nate would solo. Legion could solo. Hope is both of them combined. Of course, I havent even mentioned sorcerous supreme and cytorrak...

Somewhat false statement, but somewhat true. But the short answer is that Stan Lee wanted to make a lot of his characters vulnerable and have flaws, just like the rest of us. Hence why spiderman is a nerd. X-men are outcast. Ironman is an alcoholic. ETC. This even extended to why marvel uses New York but DC uses Metropolis. It was all about relatability.

DC and others eventually started following suit, to an extent. But the underlying theme of DC being flawless and marvel being flawed, still exists.
