More than 50% of Britain think Religion does more harm than good

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/11208845/Half-of-Britons-think-religion-does-more-harm-than-good.html

More than half of Britons believe religion does more harm than good, with less than a quarter believing faith is a positive force, according to a new survey.

The study for the Huffington Post UK revealed that only 8% of Britons describe themselves as very religious, with more than 60% saying they were not religious at all.

As an Englishman and Atheist, I find this astonishing. The difference to America's landscape is remarkable.

How long until England becomes an Atheist society? Sociological research finds that apart from Young Muslims, Britain is becoming increasingly more secular with the millennial generation.

In remembrance of the Native American Genocide

Often regarded as one of the worst genocides of all time; far more Native Americans died than Jews did in the Holocaust, with some estimates going to 100 million killed. Native Americans were slaughtered and killed by the settlers - their land taken.

It is what it is. An ugly, haunting truth --- but more awareness of this history should be spread.

Avoid this in debating (Battles)

This is my opinion of what people should stop doing in debate; to improve. Again, it's my opinion but honestly I feel inclined to post this.

Let bias influence them

What I mean by this is that people can often let their personal opinion of a character or film / game influence their opinion. It strongly reeks from those who simply take jabs at the respective character / film and use that as basis for their argument. It's really irritating to address such bias.

Alternatively, they can be grossly bias in favor of a character and it sticks.

Double standards / selectiveness

A major one. When people selectively acknowledge a feat of another character yet fail to acknowledge the same / similar for the opposing character. Doing this makes people value your opinion and input less. Keep doing it and you'll get a label attached to you, based on this characteristic.

Over-reliance on scans

Hey, we all like scans but some people go overboard and launch a festival of scan. Nobody likes a scan-fest. If you do it too much, it's akin to taking a sh!t and then describing that said sh!t. It's not pleasant, clogs up the page and essentially there's nothing there. If you post everything, you post nothing. No strategy, no argument, nothing aside from people just going ''hey, look what this guy can do!'' repeatedly.

Lacking debate

There are some users who can give one word answers but also blow you away with their knowledge - they're rare, but I know of some. And then there are many who just say ''this character stomp'' and barely engage in debate or justify their response, people mimic that and it creates a domino effect, a very baad effect for the forum overall.

Stop the ignorance

I say to those who have great influence in the US Education system.

Though I am an Atheist; I cannot deny that my family background/culture is that of a Sikh one. And yet, I smell so much ignorance when Sikhs are discriminated against or hit with terrorist slurs because they wear a turban.

The truth is that many think of Sikhs as second class citizens. The education system needs to teach (in the Religion Education subject) the clear differences between Religions and emphasize that. And to just clarify: Muslims wouldn't deserve the above treatment (discrimination) either --- this generalizing and fear-mongering done by the US News stations (often FOX) needs to be done with.

The discrimination against Muslim, Hindu and Sikh people - has increased. Anyone of Brown skin color will face prejudice in this day and age.

The cowardice of Catfish

I've been watching this show lately - relatively original, up to date with modern times and an interesting watch.

However; it is becoming increasingly apparent that our society is taking a somewhat passive approach to this by taking the stance that sympathy sob stories and false promises will make it all OK - all harm done to the person getting Catfished is shoved aside, Catfish gets sympathy and the Catfish returns to their old ways.

They are still in essence, Cowards - the label of fraud and what consequences that holds should be heavily associated and interjected with those who Catfish, and thus that label will aggressively scare people away from Catfishing people.

The Cosby Show is brilliant

I decided to re-watch this show and it still holds sentimental value. It's no Fresh Prince, but prior to the Cosby show portrayals of African-American families in sitcom were quite rare. Along with Fresh Prince and Family Matters, highly re-watchable.

Scan bombing isn't good debating

Just airing my thoughts on a personal blog.

I've noticed a trend on the Battles Forum which is to scan bomb for an argument. Unload more than a dozen scans side by side and simply describe what's happening in the scans - unfortunately, instead of using scans in moderation, I'm seeing the use of scan bombing and no strategy detail or outline whatsoever. Just puking scans and leaving it there.

Little strategy. Little balance. And often, little knowledge on the opposition.

A great debate can be made and won from little to no scans if the strategy is there. And also, simply citing issue numbers. Though scans can be used in moderation if a certain point in question, I'm not fond of this scan-bomb approach which is hijacking debating.

Wenjun Chew - a visionary

The great Wenjun_Chew is what I like to call, for better or for worse, a visionary. The definition of a Visionary is as follows:

thinking about or planning the future with imagination or wisdom.

He had so many ideas, and his meta-narrative influenced the landscape of Comic-Vine, he's gone now. He was and still is, highly influential, so as follows, he deserves this quote:

He's the visionary Comic Vine deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll ban him. Because he can take it. Because he's not an ignorant little troll. He's a silent visionary. A watchful protector. The Wenjun_Chew.
