Simply amazing 0

Holy shit you guys! That clifflhanger. Just wow. The rest of the issue was also pretty good, but that ending was just mind blowing. There was another surprise which I kind of already knew(thanks solicitations!), but I´m hoping the pay off from that will be good. There was a lot of things set up in this issue, and I´m very much looking forward to them unfolding. Bendis, you better not dissapoint us!...

Gonna have to get used to those costumes 0

A solid start for a team I can´t believe I haven´t seen before. Despite their humorous bickering, they work very well together. And the twist at the end, the one we all thought we were going to see coming? Well done Fialkov sir, well done. I´m looking forward to what will come next, and I hope it keep it´s fun tone....

A little underwhelming 0

I´m not too crazy about this title just yet. The art isn´t exactly dazzling me, and the writing is sort of subpar, but it could have been a lot worse too. I was excited and curious about this book, because it would be the first time these characters is written by somebody else than Bendis( and Nick Spencer and Brian Wood in Kitty Prides case), but so far it´s not different enough to be intresting in its own right. It´s not bad, but it´s not great either. That said,...

We remember you fondly Peter! 0

A pretty nice tribute to Peter Parker and his legacy. The character interactions and dialogue are excellent, and spot-on as always. Setup wise Bendis did much better here than in the Survive one-shot. Much more subtlety to be found here. I had almost forgotten what a big part Kitty played for a while in Peter Parkers world. I wonder if she´ll stay around in Miles book since she is now going to be on the Ultimates with him. Oh, and I´m so freaking curious about what it was Ganke gave...

Dissapointing aftermath, decent setup 0

The title says it all. As an aftermath to the Cataclysm event it was very dissapointing. I mean, I liked the speech Tony held, and the talk between Reed and Susan, but there was so much more they could have touched upon. I guess they have to leave some stuff to the new ongoing series, but still, they could have done something more. The setup for the all-new ultimates book felt a little direct and clumsy, but it was decent I guess. ...

Kitty Pride saves the Ultimate Universe! 0

We open the issue with everything in ruins, and Miles finding Kitty and asking her if she´s okay. Reed Richards shows up and starts giving Kitty a pep talk, as she grows immensely in size. Kitty starts fighting Galactus in her enlarged state as Reed continues to pep talk her through the fight. We also get a two-page spread featuring numerous heroes and villains from the Ultimate Universe. We cut back to Reed preparing a device, which Susan questions her about, as Miles try to wake up an un...

The X-Men enter the scene! 0

The X-Men is watching the destruction from afar. Captain America shows up together with Black Widow and Hawkeye, and he demands help from Kitty Pride. The X-Men are taken aboard the Helicarrier where Tony is really glad to see Kitty, and surprised to see Jean Grey. Kitty Pride is then briefed on the plan, which basically is giving Kitty Pride Giant Man powers, and then using her own mutant power to disrupt Galactus machine. Meanwhile, Jean Grey is given a Cerebro machine to read Galactus mind. S...

Rogue saves everybody! 0

The X-Men and the people they saved from Tian are still fighting the Gah lak Tus swarm in the cave, together with Rick Jones, also known as Captain Marvel. Rogue absorbs everyones power to fight the swarm, but goes berserk. Rick flies after her, and manages to calm her down. Rogue flies back to a dying Pixie(she was stabbed by the swarm at the end of the last isue), and absorbs her power so she can teleport them out of there. They then end back up on earth, face to face once more with Galactus....

Very dissapointing 0

Danny Ketch sacrifices himself to save all the people infected with the Gah Lak Tus swarm, but at the end of the issue we see Agent Coulson explaining to Danny that they have turned him into Machine Man. Nick Fury and the rest of the Commandos allegedly(we never see it actually happen, so its up for debate) goes to New York to help the Ultimates against Galactus. That is as you can see the shortest plot summary I´ve so far done in a review. That is mainly because I am pretty disappointed ...

Excellent end to this mini series 0

The issue begins with a plane trying to land at Newark, but they are told to turn around. They then notice Galactus, and panics. We switch scenes to Miles and his dad where Miles had unmasked to try and convince his dad to come with him. His dad however, is in shock, and lashes out verbally against Miles. Miles continue to try and convince his dad to come with him, but he refuses. They then both notice a plane overhead, crashing not too far from where they are. Miles tell his dad to stay put, a...

Reed and MIles goes to the 616 universe 0

We open the issue with Monica Chang standing in front of the parallel universe portal with a huge gun, ready to shoot anything that comes through. Suddenly, Miles crash through the portal, his costume all torn up, saying ”he is coming”. Cut to 25 minutes ago, we see the Ultimates are still bickering on whether to send Reed through the portal with Miles or not. Tony takes Miles to the side, and gives him a repulsor weapon he made, and tells Miles to shoot Reed with it, if he even goe...

Rogue is a badass! 0

Rick Jones and the mutants try and fight the Gah Lak Tus swarm, but they eventually notice it´s no use, so they try and escape through a tunnel, which it turns out, is also filled with the Gah Lak Tus swarm. James gets infected, but they manage to rid the swarm from him, much thanks to his healing factor. Then the issue ends with the reveal that Pixie has been impaled by the Gah Lak Tus swarm. I just realized the reason why both this issue, and the issue of Cataclysm Ultimates was so easy...

Dagger was foolish, but brave to take on Galactus like that. 0

We begin with a flashback to the Ultimatum Wave where we see Tandy(way before she got her powers) and her mother trying to get to safety. But Tandy wants to help other people, but her mother insists they have to save themselves. Tandy then see the Peter Parker Spider-Man swing by with someone, trying to get that person to safety. Cut back to present day, Dagger tells Cloak that they need to help. Dagger convinces Cloak to teleport them both close to Galactus to attack him. Cloak agrees, but und...

Outnumbered, and outgunned! 0

More and more of the Commandos fall prey to the Gah Lak Tus swarm. In the end, there´s only Nick Fury, Danny Ketch, Dum Dum Dugan and Sam Wilson. And Sam Wilson is at the abandoned City of Tomorrow that used to belong to Reed, which A.I.M now has made its base. Sam Wilson is trying to talk some sense into M.O.D.O.K, A.I.M´s leader, but he just ignores him, and activates something that weaponizes the city. That summary above might look a bit thin, but that´s just because it wa...

Improves on everything about the first issue 0

We open with Miles as Spider-Man freaking out completely, not knowing what to do. Then he sees a helicopter fly by, and hitches along for a ride, and accidentally lands on Galactus head. At first Galactus doesnt even notice him, but then he does, and he is just about to swat him away, as if he were a fly, when Thor flies along and saves him, and brings him to the other Ultimates. Tony Stark explains about how Galactus is from another universe, by referring to the events of Spider-Men. We see Mil...

Very good epilogue to World War X 0

A group of Utopian mutants arrive at the crashed city of Tian to look for Pixie and any Tianese survivors. They notice Galactus on a distance, and start freaking out. They then find Pixie being taken care of, by a group of Tianese mutants. Pixie wakes up, sees Galactus and freaks out too. She then teleports them all away from there. Unfortunately, they do not end up in Utopia, but in some strange dimension surrounded by the Gah Lak Tus swarm. They start to bicker a little, but prepare to fight....

Could have gotten off to a stronger start 0

Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos are fighting rioting people abroad, that are infected with the Gah Lak Tus swarm. A.I.M seized this opportunity to form the Gah Lak Tus cult, for those not fully consumed by the swarm, but still under their influence. Fury and his Commandos are being overwhelmed, and the Commandos plead with Fury to use their secret weapon, but Fury refuses, claiming these are innocent people. Eventually though, he gives in, when he realizes there is no other way out. They sh...

Great epilogue to Spider-Man No More 0

We begin with a discussion at S.H.I.E.L.D where Jessica Drew asks Monica Chang worriedly if she´s kicked out of the Ultimates. The other Ultimates wonder why she would think that, so Monica Chang relates what went down with Roxxon, and the Ultimates then discuss it for a while. Switch scenes to where Miles is sleeping in class, and the teacher wakes him up and punishes him by forcing him to answer a question which Miles answers flawlessly. We switch scenes once again to a police station w...

Too high expectations 0

Miles and Ganke are walking through Brooklyn discussing why Miles dad hates superheros, when Miles bring up seeing Galactus(at the end of Age of Ultron), but Ganke doesnt fully seem to believe him. That is, until Galactus shows up and starts wreaking havoc. Ganke insists that Miles suits up, and does something about it, but Miles remarks about what could he possibly do against Galactus, but suits up anyway. He tries to keep people out of harms way, as he is also freaking out at the same time, w...

Poor Sam Wilson 0

We meet the Vision, as she dreams a nightmare about the Gah Lak Tus swarm. She wakes up next to her lover Sam Wilson aka Falcon. He tries to comfort her, but Vision says she has detected a threat and they hurry off to the site of trouble, where Tony Stark and Susan Storm(also known as Iron Man and Invisible Woman) are already investigating a big pile of what appears to be dust, but Vision says is a weakened form of the Gah Lak Tus swarm. Vision discovers Galactus presence, and flies off to inter...

A tiny bit dissapointing 0

Rick Jones, the Silver Surfer and Ronan work together to stop Galactus, but it seems bleak. Rick Jones teleport the ark where all the civilian Kree are on board, out of harms way. Exhausted he gets captured by Galactus. Just as the Gah Lak Tus swarms is about to devour Rick Jones, he teleports both it, and Galactus to a far away part of the universe, where he activates the Gah Lak Tus killer. We see the Silver Surfer talking with Ronan, wondering if Rick Jones survived the attack, as Ronan is r...

My favourite issue of the mini series 0

Wow, this mini series just continues to impress me. Rick Jones has a temporary crisis of faith, but after discovering Peter Parker is dead, and a brief conversation with Mary Jane who is passing by, his confidence is back, and he rejoins the Silver Surfer and Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel is attacked by the Gah Lak Tus swarm, but the Silver Surfer and Rick Jones manages to get him away, and down to his home planet, but unfortunately not before he dies in their arms, revealing to them a weapon ...

The Watcher needs to shut up 0

Galactus continues his quest to eat the Ultimate Universe. The Silver Surfer shows up, and teams up with Rick to try and keep Galactus at bay, but they fail. The Kree and the Chitauri calls a temporary truce, to help try and stop him as well. The Kree even tries to nuke him, but instead only manages to destroy a few galaxies(oops!).I really liked this issue. Especially the interaction between the Kree, Chitauri and Rick. Rick genuinely wants to help once he realizes the magnitude of the situatio...

Galactus enters the Ultimate universe 0

Galactus just recieved a power-up. And considering he was already crazy powerful before that(heck, this issue he tears a hole in reality, just to enter the Ultimate Universe), yes, this is absolutely terrifying. I never really bonded with the Ultimate version of Rick Jones, because I think we weren´t given enough time with him the first time he was introduced. Here, he is decently entertaining though, if slightly on the whiny side. Not too crazy about the Chitauri(the Kree are always awes...

Utopia finally at peace! 0

This was a great ending. Not only does it serve as a great ending to the story arc, but it also served as a great ending to the series too. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics Ultimates only managed one or the other, not both. Things looked bleak for a while, so I´m glad it got such a positive ending(relatively speaking of course). Though sort of knowing what comes next, they won´t be able to rest for long. Poor mutants. But first I´m gonna tackle the Hunger mini se...

Final issue! 0

As an end to an arc, this issue was a little dissapointing. But as a lead-in to the Cataclysm event? It was great. Most of the fights were pretty good, but I think Johnny Storm was a little underused, especially since they made such a big deal introducing him a few issues ago. Oh well, it could have been a lot worse. On one hand, I´m happy Tony is back to his usual self, but on the other hand I´m a little dissapointed, because I think there was more potential to be explored in the s...

The war escalates 0

The tension rises as the war escalates. Kitty comes to confront Jean a second time just as she was about to murder James Hudson. I think it was great to see Liz(also known as Firestar) standing up to Jean like that, that must have taken a lot of guts. More and more of her own people seem to realize she´s gotten out of hand. I´m really looking forward to Jean and Kittys showdown next issue. I just hope Pixie can teleport as many as possible out of the way first, so there won´t ...

Greatest cliffhanger this series has seen so far 0

That reveal at the end. Wow. I´m really psyched to read the end of this arc now. Iron Man was great this issue, and so were the Howling Commandos(though Hercules stole the spotlight, so we haven´t seen much of the other members). Quicksilvers inner monologue almost made me feel sorry for him, and I didn´t think that was possible(but just almost, he still has a long way to go, before I consider him fully redeemed). Cap, Hawkeye and Thor were a bit too passive this issue, in my ...

Colossus: the new leader of Utopia 0

James reason for going to Tian were revealed this issue and I forgive him, even though it was a naive thought, as Jean pointed out. Speaking of Jean, I could not be hating her more than how I currently hate her. While she might have had noble reasons in the beginning, they have gotten lost in her selfish ambition, and her power hungry nature. I like how they remembered to point out Jean Grey and Colossus history, even though it was just briefly. Utopia is striking back, first with Storm, and so...

Showdown at Roxxon! 0

Great end for the story arc, slightly underwhelming end for the series. But don´t worry, Miles will feature prominently in the Ultimate event Cataclysm(which I will review in its entirety), and he will also obviously get a new series after that event is over. The only character that felt a little overshadowed was Bombshell, but thst´s okay. I´m not a huge fan of her anyway. I really liked how Miles took charge of everything ( even though Spider-Woman was even more in charge, b...

Conflicting feelings on this issue 0

I´m obviously sad what they did to Tony, but at the same time I think it´s intresting what they did to Iron Man(you´ll understand if you read the issue). Thor, Cap and Hawkeye are still trapped in the negative zone(Hawkeye is even blind, the poor bastard), but I have a feeling they will find a way to escape next issue. The Howling Commandos were pretty cool, but I would still like too see a little more of them. It feels like they have only been teasing them so far. And is it j...

Poor Rogue 0

Unfortunately it seems like James Hudsons defection to Tian wasn´t a ruse. But at the same time, he also protests against what it is Jean Grey is doing. Which begs the question of why he came there in the first place? Jean even poses this question to him herself in the actual comic, and it´s a perfectly valid question. Utopia took out the first wave of Tian soldiers which of course didn´t please Jean( take that!), but the sentient seed still haven´t recovered, to Rogue&a...

Taskmaster vs everyone else 0

This was a fight issue, and it was a pretty good one. This Ultimate Taskmaster is a little tamed down compared to the main universe one, but he´s okay. I like how suddenly Cloak ended the fight, give´s him an aura of power. I´m also really liking Spider-Woman´s decisiveness. This is also the most we´ve seen her featured in a long while, and I like that. She was criminally underused while Peter Parker was still alive. I also liked how out of shape Miles was with usi...

The new Howling Commandos enter the scene! 0

It turned out that the showdown between Susan, Reed and Ben last issue was just a fake out. That´s a little dissapointing. But it makes sense, seeing how smart Reed is. Speaking of Reed, that dissection of Tony´s brain was incredibly creepy. An intresting revelation too, that Tony´s sentient brain tumor was just one of the infinity gems. I wonder how they will free Cap and Hawkeye from the Negative Zone. Hulk and Thor seem to be at a standstill. Team Reed seem to be in the lead...

Jean Grey goes to war 0

The mutant civil war has begun! So far Tian has the upper hand, since they used the element of surprise, but anything can happen. I hope James treachery at the end is just a ruse to infiltrate Tian, because otherwise he is an enourmous douche for doing that to Kitty, just because he feels he stands in her shadow. I also hope that the sentient seed will recover, or they will be at a serious disadvantage. Jean Grey has clearly lost it. Her intentions were originally noble, but she´s going ab...

Origins for everybody! 0

This issue we get the origin of Bombshell, and the first appearance of the Ultimate Taskmaster. We also get a brief loving scene between Cloak and Dagger. I was a bit dissapointed by Taskmasters outfit. The main universe version of Taskmaster looks much more impressive. Oh well, he has the next issue too to impress me. The art is great as usual. The inking and colouring especially, which gives off this glossy look, which I think is nice. Hoping next issue will deliver as much as this one did....

Ultimate Kang is a woman?! 0

I got the confrontation I was hoping for :) We even got an appearance by Ben Grimm. Where the hell has he been? Reed still thinks he is doing good, but you can see where his megalomania shines through. Hulk and Thor´s fight was brief but satisfying. The cliffhanger with Tony at the end was good, and Quicksilver is delightfully malicious. Kang was a little underused in her one brief scene with Hawkeye, but I´m betting they will spend more time on her next issue. Speaking of which, I d...

The war has ended. Or has it? 0

Utopia has won their independence for now, but their victory will be shortlived seeing as how Kitty pissed off Jean Grey big time this issue. It´s not like she didn´t have it coming though. Psylocke´s( or the woman posing as Psylocke as we find out this issue) role in the conflict is clarified in this issue, and I really liked her interaction with Jean Grey. Speaking of Jean Grey, I´m a bit sad to see what she has become, but at the same time, it is intresting and engagi...

Kate Bishop is boring me 0

This issue was mostly dialogue but that was fine, and we did get a bigger look into Cloak and Daggers origin which was nice. And even though Miles had two more pep talks this issue, they didn´t feel repetitive, just reminding him of who he needs to be. But you also understand why he still doesnt want to. Considering what happens at the end of the issue, I´m really looking forward to the next issue. PS! The art was great. Don´t really have much more to say about it other than th...

Disassembled 0

The StoryThis storyline seems to be setting up the Ultimate event Cataclysm. But it still works as its own story too. Hulk is on the loose again, and he´s teamed up with Reed, Quicksilver and Kang(He´s the one who freed Quicksilver at the end of Ultimate Comics Wolverine). Reed is still under the delusion that he can redeem himself, this time by the help of the Infinity Gauntlets. They still have to find two of the Infinity gems though.Personally I am hoping for a confrontation between Reed and...
