I just got back from seeing this ALLEGED movie. You can go straight to hell Gregg.

There were 3 decent aspects of this movie. The design (costumes and environments) was good, Krypton felt alien without being distractingly so like Asgard felt in Thor., The music was ok, tense in the tense parts and sad in the sad parts, but if you asked me to hum it to you, I couldn't, not like the 1978 music. The special effects were ok. I saw it in 4K 2D and some of the superfast/flying stuff was OBVIOUS CG like it was being run thru a PS3. Better than Matrix 2 fights that looked like they were made in the original XBox, but it was enough to start to take me out of the movie when combined with the shaky-cam.

It's a sad, dark day when the best character in a movie is played by Russel Crowe. Everyone has been praising him and Kevin Costner, but Costner's Pa Kent was so far out of character for Pa, I couldn't believe 80% of the things he said. EVERYONE knew Superman's "secret" identity, Zod's plan was full of holes, the dialogue was mediocre at best, and awful at times. and all in all, it felt more like an Elseworlds book where Superman just isn't hung up on protecting people. It's like a first draft. It was too long, yet it felt rushed. It's like the editor was out sick for this movie. It's like the cameraman was on meth. Worse than the betrayal that was Dark Knight Rises, ALMOST as bad as Prometheus. You can say that Superman is an outrageous character and people can't relate to him, yada yada yada. If Thor could be a perfectly watchable exciting comic book movie in the B-, 3.5/5 range, why can't Superman be too? Yeah some of the action was cool, but NO amount of action can save such horrible writing. I hope whoever wrote this movie never works on another film again.

1.5/5

The tag line should be "Man of Steel. Because you just don't learn! Give up already!"

You know who I want in Man of Steel 2? F*CKINGSUPERMAN! That's who!

I just got back from this movie and it was the WORST WRITTEN piece of garbage I've seen since Prometheus! Who is Superman? everyone in this movie seems to be dealing with some crazy alien named CLARK, that's all everyone ever calls him!

This is one thing New52 has done right in regards to Superman: it's not that Lara didn't want to go, it's that she couldn't. Rao was so massive and exerted such a strong gravitational pull on Krypton that it was difficult to reach escape velocity. A ship needs to be able to exert a force greater than, and opposing gravity, to get off world, and to do that it needs to burn fuel. The heavier the payload, the more fuel is needed. That fuel has its own weight, and requires more power out of the engines.

As revolutionary as Jor-El's spacecraft was, its engine wasn't advanced/powerful/efficirent enough to get off world, and travel faster than light all the way to earth with Lara's extra weight.

All-Star Superman. No question.

Kingdom Come is great, but it's not a Superman story in my mind, it's a Justice League story.

For the Man Who Has Everything was adapted into an amazing episode of the Justice League cartoon, but in my mind, the simplification of the story makes it better than the original story. If the adaptation is better than the original, it can't be my favorite.

Red Son is one of my favorite Elseworlds stories becuase it's SO different from how we normally see Superman, but All-Star is better because it's the epitome of how we normally see Superman.

What Ever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow is great and was obviously the major inspiration for All-Star Superman, but the ending of it always bothers me. First off, having Jimmy and Lana die makes me sad, then having Superman give up his powers and wander into the frozen Arctic to die as penance for killing is REALLY sad, but I understand it! But to find out he faked his own death AND faked losing his powers doesn't sound like Superman to me. If he really did give up his powers but faked his death to live as Jordan Elliot, I could get behind that, but the whole he really has his powers, just rubs me the wrong way!

Superman dies in All-Star Superman as well, but it never makes me sad. He saved everyone, he didn't compromise his values, and he may not technically be dead.

I thought about voting Other for Superman for All Seasons, but Book 4 doesn't feel like a fitting climax, and OTHER never wins.

The Bad: THE NAME! It just sounds so dumb! Why not bring it under the banner of one of the old Superman titles like Adventures of Superman, Superman: The Man of Steel, or title it based on a well-known moniker like Superman: The Man of Tomorrow, or Superman: Last Son of Krypton.
