how the hell can he stand toe to toe with superpowered characters like ironman black panther, and now cable?

i guess the writers gotta go with the status quo, since he is captain AMERICA...

its all about fantom's misdirection, if he can prevent, wake up from, see through it, (which nobody can do as of yet) then he has a legit fighting chance

fantomex's misdirection is not yet fully explained, but so far nobody can avoid, beat , wake up from, notice his illusions and misdirections. 
given they have both time to prepare, and with fantomex having no scent ,  i think fantom can win this one.

if snake eyes manages to avoid fantomex's trade mark misdirection, (as far as i know, nobody is shown to do yet), then he has a fighting chance. 
remember, fantomex is a metahuman, while SE with all his fighting prowess, is still human.

 this could go either way,as fantomex's trademark misdirection is not yet fully explained, but it is enough to make almost anyone hallucinate or believe what he wants them to believe.  
tough call, but if logan manages to avoid being misdirected( i dont think anyone has done it yet) then he could take fantomex down.

what i meant is there's a crapload of green lanterns, supermen, in dc universe it's not a compelling read anymore. 
besides, what's up with the goofy costumes,.
