@Chevaliere: At her question, he got a distant look in his eyes, and he stared into the flowing waters of the river, all thoughts of eating apparently forgotten. "I do.." he began, somewhat haltingly. "Blood, and death. Then the cave...the woman telling me that I had earned my name, and must rest. Then she gave me the strange drink, and when I awoke, the world I had known was gone."

@Chevaliere: "Like yourself, my life has somehow been transplanted into a time not my own."

He paused, offering her the first and choicest cut of the meat.

"I am still at a loss as to exactly who designed it so."

@Chevaliere: "Well, at least you know your benefactor, if not your purpose."

Following her gaze, he rose and began gathering some branches for a fire. Soon, the smell of cooking venison filled the air as strips of it hung on a makeshift spit over a small blaze.

@Chevaliere: He smiled more broadly, then, and gave a short, good-natured laugh.

"I meant to this time, milady, not to this hill, for you are clearly as much a stranger here as I."

@Chevaliere: He returned her smile with one of his own.

"Well, my memories are fresher than most in this world. Still I am glad I could lighten your heart. How came you here?"

@Chevaliere: His eyebrows raised in surprise. He had felt that he was a man out of his time, but the time of the Franks had passed long before even he was born. His adoptive father had raised him on the legends, however.

"Forgive me, I did not realize that I was the presence of nobility. The tales of your people are legendary."

@Chevaliere: Having field-dressed the animal to the best of his ability, he sat next to her and began cleaning her axe on the grass before returning it to her.

"My name is Ulrich," he said as he passed the weapon to her with a nod of thanks, "and yours, milady?"

@Chevaliere: He caught the axe smoothly, noting with admiration the balance of the weapon. Holding it near the head, he began awkwardly but serviceably butchering the deer.

"Thank you. I hope you will join me in a meal once this has been cooked."
