I was curious what the sales numbers for these three series were. So I thought I would post what I found.

Resurrection Man 8 14,998

Captain Atom 8 11,701

JLI 8 30,396

And then by way of comparison:

Batman 8 130,602

The Walking Dead 96 36,931

These numbers are just for one month so I don't know what the trend was (I assume downward ;) ). And these numbers are just Diamond sales to comic shops (No digital). So my question is: What is the cut off for DC? if JLI is doing 30,000 copies why not let it stick around a while? If anyone has any incite on this I'm all ears.

Here is a link to where the numbers came from http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/22842.html

You see, C.A., Voodoo, and Resurrection were cancelled due to lack of sales. JLI is cancelled due to some sort of story progression, most likely, and the annual ties in to the "shocking" events of JL12.

So they canceled them due to lack of sales? Interesting. I guess my next question would be: I wonder what the cut off is for DC? In indy circles 10 to 15 thousand is still looked at as healthy. Certainly you have to look at it on a case by case basis.

Alan Moore is certainly bitter and I definitely don’t agree with his sweeping generalizations about the comics industry. There is a lot of great material out there. But that doesn’t mean he’s wrong to feel the way he does about Watchmen. In my opinion, if the original creator doesn’t want there to be more Watchmen that ought to count for something. At this point there is the question of Dave Gibbons. He gave it his blessing. I’ve read the quote and honestly I don’t really think that’s what Gibbons did. I get the feeling that he’d also rather this didn’t happen. Dave could have drawn or written anything in this series that he wanted. If he had come to Didio and asked to letter every other page with a sharpie and supply the remaining issues with a stick figure back-up I think they would have figured out a way to let him do it. Before Watchmen would be a much easier sell with Gibbons’ name anywhere on it. And I guarantee that he would have been setup as the face of Before Watchmen like he was for the Watchmen film. But instead he wishes DC luck while making sure to mention that he and Moore told the complete story they meant to tell. Meanwhile, whenever anyone working on the project is asked about Gibbons they have an ambiguous story to tell that makes Gibbons seem polite but disappointed. I admit this is a bit of conjecture on my part but I feel like the evidence is out there. Anyhow, I won’t be reading these but good luck to those who do.

Just because Alan Scott is now gay doesn't mean he can't have kids. It sounds more like making the character younger was the deciding factor there.

@the_fallen11: If iconic means longevity of existence than sure. However, I have always thought that iconic referred to mainstream recognition. If I show someone a bat symbol or superman emblem they will know what it is even if they've never read a comic. If I show someone on the street a picture of Alan Scott in any of his Green Lantern costumes I think non comic readers would merely be confused. And I just show them his symbol they might ask if that has something to do with the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie.

As I understand it the DLC takes place in the Joker area of the City and you switch back and forth between Robin and Batman segments. So there will be some Robin in the city but in a very focused way.

@lifeboy: I guess my name would lead people to believe I would fly off the handle a bit more. I'll try to take my name more literally in the future. :) In any case, I believe DC is trying organize this into a weekly event. It's actually a total of 35 comics. Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, and SIlk Spectre are getting 4 issue mini series and the Comedian, Minutemen, and Ozymandias are getting 6 issue miniseries. And a final one shot. I don't think it'll actually go 35 weeks though. But I'm not 100% sure on the release structure. I won't be getting any of it anyone though.
