@nicolascagegod: Isn't Zdarsky Marvel exclusive? I know he drew a short but I think he's locked there writing wise.

Snyder has a Black Label Nightwing book about Dick taking over Gotham in Bruce's absence so you're kinda right about him. I wouldn't mind him coming back over and over if he could just tone it down a bit and forget about the Joker for a while.

Honestly, Bat/Cat will have a lot of sexy times so as a fan service book it should be glorious. I'd rather look at that than Ghost-Maker, Punchline and Clownhunter not that I want to read either of those but the former has a certain appeal and who knows, maybe King will excel in a limited run which he has had a lot of time to cook up.

I would rather not think about the timeline because 2 decades is waay over the top but Fraction hinted at that too so maybe this is the new status quo. Amazing how DC went from "Batman has been active for 5 years" to "he's been active for 21 years" in less than 10 years.

With the current rumors and the things that have happened at DC I expect that they'll bring in writers whose main source of revenue will be from other projects (animation, tv, etc) and who'll write comics more as a courtesy/hobby. That's the impression I'm getting.

It's supposed to be a politically charged perspective book so DC never actually shied away from that lol. Murphy left Twitter months ago because being a political centrist with friends on both side of the political spectrum was too much for some people.

@nicolascagegod: I don't think this arc has anything to do with FS tbh. It's just supposed a be a two part fill in.

I'm curious about the state of the Bat verse books as a whole from March and onwards. Though I'm not really expecting anything extraordinary, not with the current regime at least.

I read it but only to follow the WK saga.

Yeah, Twitter people are the WORST. They take everything as an attack on their faith/race/sexuality/identity.

@nicolascagegod: LOL, the Eternal books were a special level of suck that can't really be compared. RH was not bad by any means but it just felt to me that the writer already had a story about Batman/Nightwing, etc that they just slapped Jason on to. Shawn was clearly more interested in his set up for the Hill than the titular character.

As long as the scroll is played for comedy then I'm fine with it.

Tec was...I can't quite put my word on it at this point. I'm struggling to understand where Tomasi's story starts and where the Magistrate BS ends and then we introduced to

Hush and his secret half sister, and Mirror guy dies lol.

Tomasi writes a good Damian but that's to be expected. Oh and things might be looking up for Damian lol, DC is starting a new Super Sons digital first series written by Tomasi from next month. Details are here and he's also on the collage that DC is using to market Batman: Black and White.

The new Red Hood started very dull, I think the new characters look interesting (not that the writer is going to stay on long enough to make them click anyway) but everything was so boring and Jason Todd was extremely basic. It could have easily been a pain by the numbers Tim or Dick story. I think the writer was more interested in the set up than the character.

The timeline for the future state titles has been unveiled, here's the link. Really exposes the mediocrity of the Batman books in this regard. The other books are spread out across different years whereas EVERY Batbook is set in 2025 minus Dark Detective which is only two years ahead at 2027. Even other books that feature Bat characters aren't much better because TT is also set in 2027 and SS is set in 2030. JL is the only book featuring a Bat character that goes all the way to 2040.

Meanwhile Superman books start at 2030 and go all the way up to 3000 with books set in 2050 and 2070 along the way.

Does DC seriously think that the Magistrate is going to catch on? LMAO, good luck with that.

@nicolascagegod: At this point I'm becoming more and more convinced that Damian isn't going to be in Future State at all(the Batbooks at least). If Tynion is really the brains behind the Magistrate angle then Damian is pretty out because Tynion has never made secret of his love for Tim and a desire to force push Harper Row.

He could be the Batman in the SS book which is also written by Thompson but yeah it's gonna be that or TT imo. I don't want him to be Red X. It's another Dick hand me down and Damian is nothing like the Red X character from the show. On top of that I'm over Red as a prefix for Robins. After Red Hood and Red Robin we don't need Red X.

I'm just shocked because the whole point of these anthologies is to give different writers a shot. Why even bother with the same guy who's writing the main book, an annual and a companion series in the future.

@orangebat: Thanks again and AIPT tends to post previews of almost all DC books on Fridays (or Saturdays depending on where one lives).

Previews

Tynion Interview

"I think the day it's announced, I think comic shops will be very happy and then there'll bea couple of grumblings on some corners of the internet but I'm doing it from a totally different angle. The thing that I can say about it is a bunch of people have been asking me, okay, you're resetting all of these pieces of the core Batman mythology, where is Jim Gordon?"

My guess is that this is the Joker vs Bane project hence why Tynion talks about potential grumblings on some corners, different angles and retailers being happy. This all in addition to March being the guy who drew the prologue.

Also, talking about Future State and his Batman plans to follow it, James Tynion IV said "The Gotham Future State books are shaped by some ideas that I'm going to be introducing in my run with Jorge Jimenez following on, particularly when it comes to the character Peacekeeper One, who is the top agent of a group called The Magistrate. That is a character that I created and you will see me sort-of introduce in present day in my Batman run with Jorge, picking up from that and there are other little pieces than that reflect what we were what we're doing."

This further cements my belief because there are Scarecrow plans for the main book as well and now Tynion confirms Magistrate plans which really shrink the space for Joker vs Bane. There were theories about the Magistrate being affiliated with Damian but these are appealing less and less likely. I will be stunned if Damian is left out entirely from Future State in general and the Batbooks in particular.

DC has also released the list of writers and stories from the final Death Metal tie inn called Last 52 or something and it has a Batman story by Tynion...WHY? couldn't they have given those 8-12 pages to someone else?

@orangebat: Thanks, I'll accept the pre 2000's nominees as long they're highly recommended and truth be told I do think most of the good stuff probably came from that era, was just hoping for something more modern. I'm aware of the "inversion" and I did follow the slew of Wolverine books when Logan died...mostly.

I'm mostly in to Wolverine and to a lesser extent Magneto. Like Gambit as well but I can't say I care much about the others. I was curious about the current run for sure but Marvel Post 2014 and onwards with certain exceptions has been a massive turn off imo. I won't pretend that DC has better comics or anything but Marvel's obsession with events and frequent relaunches has all but killed my interest in them. I recall a video from a guy who worked in a comic store and he was exasperated by Marvel's deluge of titles. He was like "I don't have time to read the books and I can read them for free" LMAO.

Completely off topic but can anyone recommend Sabretooth stories with the following conditions:

1) He's not a jobber

2) The stories are from 2000 and onwards. I'd begrudgingly accept 90's nominations if they're very strongly recommended.

3) The stories feature him as a villain and fighting against Logan.

@nicolascagegod: I'm personally not very interested in Scarecrow (and Riddler). I like them a bit but they're reliant entirely on their gimmicks for their popularity. No one can name a good or important Scarecrow story and with Riddler the buck stops at Zero Year and Hush(in which he was barely there). I've read pretty much everything with them Post Crisis and some Pre Crisis and I just can't care much. Surprised at the amount of fans these guys have online. Would rather someone like Ennis tackle someone I care about.

I hope it's not indefinite and that he'll be gone by the time the new film comes out.

I enjoyed both the CW and the Titans take on the character. They were both exposed to a lot of bad writing though. Both the actors gave their best and clearly cared. I think Manu's core storyline was more exciting but Esai's Slade was more accurate and had a better aesthetic. It's hard to rate them in a traditional manner because the lousy writing imo would seriously bring down their scores. Overall I'd give Esai 8.5 and Manu 8.

Have zero expectations for Joe. He's not much better as an actor if at all and was selected for very superficial reasons (has the height and body to match Batfleck). It's a Snyder driven project yet I'm 100% certain that Slade was added because of Johns(who was instrumental in getting the character for Arrow, Titans and the Arkham games and we know he was scripting the Batfleck film). So Slade is in a very messy place right now . With Johns and Batfleck out this particular iteration should've ceased to exist. Now we're getting 100% Snyderstroke for which I don't give a flying f*ck. Snyder will make him a generic run of the mill badass with a gruff voice and cigar or woman in bed or something then give him a CGI driven video game fight scene with fountains of blood erupting and then his cultists will fellate to that as the greatest interpretation of the character to ever exist.
