Ok spoilers for Batman 81 and Knightfall
Batman 81 basically has Bruce reveal that he's been planning all this. He allowed Bane to break him, he sent Damian who pretended to be helpless, the Joker in this story is actually Clayface working for Batman etc. All this is ofcourse told not shown. Meanwhile the Batfamily (consisting of Kate and Huntress) are referred to as Damian's "brothers and sisters" and Thomas Wayne's "grandchildren" and "children"...WTF? For Tim, Damian, Cass and Duke I can understand, Babs stretches it but sure include her too but Kate and Helena? was King even trying here? They beat up Thomas who then beats the shit out of them (lol) and then drinks tea. Bane gets one page without any dialogue as Bat/Cat get ready to attack him. The origin of Gotham Girl's powers is now attributed to some super venom(why doesn't Bane use it himself?) and that's the end. This was just fan service to appease various fans and nothing more. Bane might as well not be in this story and by the looks of it he'll be taken out by Bat/Cat the next issue(vomits) and then Thomas will become the real villain. King consistently chooses to tell instead of showing and when you get down to it "City of Bane" and "Fall and the Fallen" are essentially just redone versions of the first few arcs which were already redone versions of "Knightfall". This is what King is doing, just reversing everything he writes. Dick and Jason fans should be happy they weren't here.
"TODKM Knightfall" was solid. So Azrael has been Batman for decades. His Gotham is a theocracy, he's addicted to venom and has henchmen named Torchbearer and Cardinal. Bane and Lady Shiva had a son named Tourne who has internalized the power of venom. Bane himself does not appear as he was killed by Azrael when Tourne was just a child, Shiva calls him her love(that's a first as it has never happened before in her entire history) but they are never seen together. They lead the LOA to perform a coup in Gotham. Surprisingly Bruce is not dead, he's...well you're gonna have to see it for yourself because even I cant describe what JPV turned him in to. Shiva's motivation is to complete what she started in Knightsend, Tourne wants to avenge Bane's murder. Shiva gives Bruce some nanotech and he comes back. Again I dont fully understand what Bruce becomes or what his powers even are. He basically releases a nano swarm that "absorbs" people. Its killing without killing so to speak. Tourne beats JPV and he & Shiva tell Bruce to make the city what it was. Except Bruce aint Bruce anymore lol, he absorbs them and then crucifies JPV on a Batsymbol, the end. This was a solid book, it definitely deserved more than a one shot and there was a lot of world building here. I definitely got ahead of myself thinking that Tourne would join the main DC universe and potentially encounter Damian or Cass.
