At this point DC should also stop pretending that Cyborg is JLA material,he works best as Teen Titans character, bring in Vixen or kick out Hal and replace him with John Stewart.

If this is Johns best story in years then the man has a destiny of mediocrity ahead.

Convenient exposition dumps to the rescue in this one:

Mr Miracle just remembered that Black Racer just happens to be Darkseid's slave, this is completely and utterly stupid, shows that Johns has no clue what he's doing with the New Gods.

Parademons are fireflys' now and they need Hal Jordan to guide them because he's so bright and shiny...HAHAHAHA.

Random prophecy about a human saviour from Metropolis, that had to be the most asinine piece of story telling ever,Johns literally had to describe that whole thing in detail so that Luthor would actually fit,Prophecies should be vague but nope might as well have said "yes Mr Lex we've been waiting for you"

If they're so hell bent on making Superman evil then Johns should have made him the God of Apokolips, there is far more potential for that story, but ofcourse Johns had to satisfy his Luthor boner.

This was pretty bad imo, and I was actually finding this arc good ,horribly over written, just horrible WTH, even a Grant Morrison comic with all it's mind f*ck never felt like a pointless chore, the characters are just babbling along, barely any plot progression even though we're back to the present after last months little break, the story has run its course which even Snyder tacitly acknowledged at NYCC when he said Bruce's return journey would start from #46. Unlike many fans I was ok with Bruce being gone but Snyder has utterly failed to deliver. Seriously Julie was talking about Endgame, really now? did Barbara ever say Joker shot me in The Killing Joke? it's like Batman saying "I met Hugo Strange in Monster Men",utterly ridiculous, thats what happens when exposition serves no purpose other than to fill out a page.

@kaspercole: Were what three issues into this story line, were you expecting to have Bloom's home address and social security number by now? Gordon is working the case. Snyder is building to whatever reveal he has planned. If the last 5 years of Batman have proven anything its that Snyder excels at long form stories give him the time he has earned and I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

4 and a half issues(10 page divergence teaser) are more than enough, many writers can complete entire story lines with the same amount of issues. Besides the last issue promised Bloom's origin and failed to deliver,I think he has a right to complain.

If the first issue and preview are any indication this series can only go downhill like it's predecessor.

Cassandra Cain is a better Batman than Bruce Wayne. Just saying...

NOOOOO!!!!!

They play the Changing ARTIST trick again!!!!!!

give me back Daniel!!!!!

Considering how much time and dedication Daniel puts into his work it would be impossible to get him on a weekly :/

Why? it takes more than just martial arts to be Batman and if Bruce was like that all the time then the haters would be complaining about Batgod.

Luthor,Vertigo,Bronze Tiger,Waller,Cheshire,Deathstroke,Gentleman Ghost,Grundy,Merlyn and Kobra are pushing it, I guess they come under "family". Great pic though.

Favorite absurd villain names: King of Cats, Mr. Camera, Blue Bat, Kite Man, Rainbow Beast, Snowman, Bad Samaritan, and Ugly American.

On another note, I don't think I see Wrath on the list. Condiment King is also listed as debuting about a decade before his actual appearance.

Wrath is mentioned in 1984 as Anti-Batman.

@squalleon: (1) I didn't say that BR was a 'force'. I said that he simply might be unique among new gods in that his form isn't necessarily corporeal as the forms of others are. (2) it's still not dues ex machina, you're very much misusing that term. Dues ex machina would be if Brainiac suddenly came in the middle of the fight and killed Darkseid. (3) is it really that unbelievable that the Anti-Monitor—a being with almost undefined cosmic power—would have the power to fuse two beings together? For all we know, it could be an extension of the ALE (forcing beings to literally merge at his command) that'll be touched on next issue. (4) Leaving the readers with some questions doesn't equate to the story doing something wrong. Several of the best stories have done just that. For example, how has nobody ever been able to not guess that Clark Kent is Superman given that his only disguise is a pair of glasses? These are major plot holes that comic fans overlook. So a mere inconsistency in the powers granted by a concept that's been defined and redefined over 40 years to a being whose uppermost limit of power has never really been defined is not really a problem.

How is this any different from Brainiac showing up? Anti-Monitor just randomly became the anti-life equation and used his power to enslave Flash. It's like Batman developing heat vison when he needs,I'm sure "he's Batman" would be just as succinct(sarcasm).

Yes it's unbelievable,he never displayed that power in any incarnation and Black Racer cannot be merged with anyone. It's typical Johns crap, complete disregard for actual history and the concepts,I honestly dont care what he does with cosmic Doomsday aka Anti-Monitor but New Gods are a different matter entirely. Byrne failed when he tried the exact same thing Johns is doing and so will Johns in a few years.

More importantly if he can merge people why not merge himself with Darkseid? or use his power to make Darkseid commit suicide?

Clark Kent's ID is not a plot hole,a plot hole is specific to a particular plot not 75 years of characterization.

Yes, hopefully the Katana series leads to the formation of the original Outsiders, looking forward to Kobra's debut.

Deadshot is the best news for me, this mini should finally give us much needed character development and re-establish Deadshot's link to Batman in a major way.

This was pretty bad, Johns depiction of Anti-life is just itching to be retconned and it's nothing new either(Cosmic Odyssey) plus it cheapens everything, now the anti-life is just negative emotional spectrum or Black Lantern energy, someone needs to remind Geoffcon man he's not writing GL any more. Black Racer was also just summoned like he's Darkseid's personal dog? then he collides with Flash and becomes AM's slave? WTF is this? and exactly is black Superman supposed to be and why should I care? what's the point of Earth-3 now that the Anti-matter universe also exists?

A good chunk of the ideas here were blatantly lifted from Grant Morrison's work, Batman/Metron,Flash/Racer, Racer killing Darkseid, and generally the idea of Justice Leaguers becoming 5th World gods.

Johns truly is the Michael Bay of comics.
