Intermediary Banite Sith Respect Thread

No Caption Provided

General Overview

Force Strength

The Sith Masters in the Banite line grew more powerful with each generation. Note that this does not include those who never seized the mantle of master within the Banite line. Also note that the order of the lineage of masters in the line goes Bane, Zannah, Cognus, Vectivus, Gravid, Gean, Ramage, Tenebrous's Master, Tenebrous, Plagueis, Sidious.

For a millennium, the Sith maintained the order in secrecy, passing down their evil heritage. As they gained knowledge of the dark side of the Force, their powers increased with each generation.

Force Knowledge

The Sith Archives were passed down from master to apprentice with each generation, which included Bane's manuscript, The Rule of Two.

It should be noted that in Gravid's reign he went crazy and destroyed half of the repository of Sith knowledge, including the essence transfer ability and excluding Bane's manuscript.

Barricaded within the walls of a bastion he and his Twi’lek apprentice, Gean, had constructed on Jaguada, he had attempted as much, and was thought to have destroyed more than half the repository of artifacts before Gean, demonstrating consummate will and courage, had managed to penetrate the Force fields Gravid had raised around their stronghold and intercede, killing her Master with her bare hands, though at the cost of her arm, shoulder, and the entire left side of her face and chest.

Darth Plagueis

Bane's manuscript included knowledge of a variety of Force powers.

Darth Vectivus

Force Strength

Vectivus was powerful enough to begin experimenting with and testing new powers with the Force prior to receiving any training at all in its ways.

"The director of that time hushed up the reports, closed down that mine-the rest of the operation in these asteroids was unaffected-and kept things tightly under wraps. He, too, was a Force-sensitive and had been experiencing things, experimenting, acquiring and testing new powers. When this asteroid belt eventually became less profitable as a mining operation, he closed it down, carefully mismanaged things so that the habitat would be left here and forgotten . . . and then, leaving it behind, he went out into the galaxy, finding the Sith, apprenticing himself, eventually becoming the Sith Master Darth Vectivus.

Force Knowledge

Vectivus had been developing and acquiring Force powers prior to receiving any training in the ways of the Force.

"The director of that time hushed up the reports, closed down that mine-the rest of the operation in these asteroids was unaffected-and kept things tightly under wraps. Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

Force Phantom

Darth Vectivus created the Force Phantom ability.

This ability creates and controls projections of living things through the Force that can fight and physically impact the environment and people around it.

The creature-revealed in the light of Ben's lightsaber to be a fleshy stretched wing with eyes at one end, a tail at the other, and a wet mouth toward the center of its underside, something like a mynock, flew straight at him. Ben swung, felt his blade cut into skin and meat, and was propelled back down by the impact as the two halves of the beast hurtled lifelessly past him, one to either side.

The soles of his feet hit stone again. He absorbed as much of the impact as he could with his knees and did not bounce up very far this time.

The two mynock halves were partly embedded in the stone, and as he glanced at them, they slipped beneath the stone's surface like two halves of a boat sinking. They left nothing behind-no blood, nothing.

"They're not real," Ben said.

"Projections of the Force," Nelani answered from behind. "So they can't really hurt us, right?"

"Wrong." Her tone chided him. "You know better than that. It's like saying A laser beam can't hurt me-it's only light, right?"

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

And these phantoms can be projected from across the Galaxy.

"It seems that among the resources she inherited from Lumiya is a Force technique permitting her the projection of phantoms across space. It appears in every way to match the lost technique of Darth Vectivus."

Legacy of the Force: Fury

Each phantom is tied to the life of some living thing in the galaxy, and can actually be quite far off in the galaxy.

Now it was his turn to wave around. "Every phantom you see here, every one you encounter, is connected to something that is distinctly real, distinctly alive, though possibly far, far away. Every time you struck a mynock, a living being somewhere suffered the pain and injury you inflicted."

With his statement, a knot of sickness formed in Nelani's stomach. "You're lying."

"No, I'm not. You struck, and somewhere, some creature, perhaps a baby bantha, squealed in pain and was severed, killed before the disbelieving eyes of its mother-"

"Stop it."

"Why? It's the truth. Baby banthas are quite cute, you know. A terrible shame to see one cut in half."

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

Even as a Force ghost, Vectivus could project several Force phantoms of mynocks at once.

"Oh, that's simple. Kill me." He took a bounding, gliding step forward. "Sweep your lightsaber blade across my neck, topple my head from my shoulders. The mynocks will go away, and you'll be able to find your way back to your friends.

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

Vectivus shrugged. "Perhaps I did. I wouldn't know." Then he faded from sight, and as he disappeared, the susurrating noise of the mynocks wheeling overhead also vanished.

Essence Transfer

Darth Vectivus having preceded Darth Gravid in the Banite line possesses the ability of essence transfer.

In Bane’s age a Sith might have had to guard against an attempt at essence transfer by the deceased—a leap into the consciousness of the Sith who survived—but those times were long past and of no relevance; not since the teachings had been sabotaged, the technique lost. The last Sith possessed of the knowledge had been inexplicably drawn to the light side and killed, taking the secret process with him …

Sith Sorcery/Alchemy

Vectivus constructed a secret entrance opened by a Force related mechanism.

Around the rock outcropping, Jacen came face-to-face with another rock-a boulder of black stone, its surface shiny and smooth. It was unlike any other surface he'd seen while in these caverns.

And it reeked of dark side energy.

"A door," he said.

Beside him, Brisha nodded.

Jacen reached out to explore the barrier with his Force-attuned senses. The stone seemed to be resting on a pivot of pure energy. The slightest exertion would swing it to one side . . . but the exertion had to be made through the Force. Through the dark side of the Force. Perhaps a light-side exertion would swing it open as well, but he sensed that such an exertion would have to be much greater.

He shrugged, gestured, exerted himself minimally along dark paths. The boulder swung obediently to one side. There was darkness beyond.

Force Senses

Vectivus managed to track down the Banite Sith in hiding that would eventually become his master.

"The director of that time hushed up the reports, closed down that mine-the rest of the operation in these asteroids was unaffected-and kept things tightly under wraps. Force Illumination

As a Force ghost, Darth Vectivus illuminated an area of a dark cavern in such a way that it left enough of an impression for Nelani to sense afterwards.

He gestured at Nelani-no, beyond her, and she felt a pulse of Force energy in the distance behind her.

She moved, a floating bounce that allowed her to turn but keep Vectivus in the periphery of her vision. In the distance, where Vectivus gestured, the rails that had borne Brisha's car to these depths were briefly illuminated. Even when the light faded, she could still feel them, could mark their presence in the Force as though they were living things.

Legacy of the Force: Betrayal

Strength

Darth Vectivus carried around a considerable amount of muscle.

Behind her stood a human man, dignified of bearing, his dark beard cut close in an elegant style. He was tall and a trifle overweight, but his loose-fitting black garments suggested that he was carrying around some muscle as well as fat.

Darth Gravid

Telekinesis

Darth Gravid was able to erect a telekinetic barrier spanning over an entire fortress.

Essence Transfer

Prior to Darth Sidious's rediscovery of the technique, Darth Gravid was the last in the Banite line who possessed the ritual of essence transfer.

In Bane’s age a Sith might have had to guard against an attempt at essence transfer by the deceased—a leap into the consciousness of the Sith who survived—but those times were long past and of no relevance; not since the teachings had been sabotaged, the technique lost. Darth Plagueis

Lightsaber Skill

Prior to his defeat at the hands of Darth Gean, Darth Gravid severely injured her in a duel, removing much of the left side of Gean's body, and presumably disarming her.

Darth Plagueis

Darth Gean acquired cybernetics, which would've undoubtedly been stronger than her natural body.

“Your thoughts betray you,” Plagueis said. “Do you think that Malak’s powers were weakened by Revan’s lightsaber? Bane by being encrusted in orbalisks? Do you think Gravid’s young apprentice was hindered by the prosthesis she was forced to wear after fighting him?”

Darth Ramage

Force Strength

The power emanating from just Ramage's holocron made Jax fear it would seduce him to the dark side.

The holocron created a slight disturbance in the Force through its very existence-at least Jax could feel its subtle pull when he was near it-and he had not wanted to risk attempting to activate it.

The Last Jedi

The power contained in Ramage's holocron was enough to overwhelm the senses of a witch of dathomir, even after she used a calming spell to maintain her composure.

She considered a Force jump up onto the foredeck but backed away from such a bold move. Male he might be-stranger he might be-but he was a guest of the Matriarch. Such an act would be a breach of courtesy. So instead, she merely raised a hand and caressed the forward surface of the wing where it melted into the fuselage.

A tingle of something like dread coursed up her arm. She pulled her hand back with a sharp intake of breath.

What was that?

She glanced quickly over her shoulder at the timid ones who stood watching her. Had they felt her involuntary withdrawal? Did they read it as fear?

Clenching her teeth, Magash reached up and laid her fingertips against the shiny metal. The whisper of dark energy returned, making her suck in another breath. She murmured the words and melody of a calming spell-

"I call on thee, O Unformed.

"Let no harm befall me in times of trial.

"In moments of danger, guide my steps.

"Inspire me. Purpose me."

She kept her hand in contact with the ship's hull until she thought her every nerve would scream out with the urge to shut out that whisper of dark power. Then she withdrew it casually, as if her jaws did not hurt from the clenching of her teeth-as if she did not want to snarl with unnamable distress.

The Last Jedi

Upon partially reacting to Jax Pavan's blood, Darth Ramage's holocron released a burst of power that caused the Force within and around Jax to shudder and created a surge through the Force strong enough to almost knock a Nightsister off of her feet from across the landscape.

A drop of blood fell from Jax's wounded palm, struck the crown of the artifact, and traced a zigzag down the incised face.

The Force within and around Jax shuddered, and the holocron beat with a single sanguine pulse. The bottom corner facing Jax turned on an unseen axis.

The Last Jedi

She had gone no more than two strides when the black pinnacles across the Infinity Plain were lit by warring bursts of aqua and crimson light. The whipcord response in the Force almost knocked her from her feet, and her soul was raked by a raw wave of anguish from the Jedi.

The Last Jedi

Force Knowledge

Darth Ramage's holocron was said to contain several lost secrets of the Sith.

The droid continued, "Supposedly, it contains many lost secrets of the Sith. We had no way to find out, of course, since it can only be opened by someone who can use the Force."

Coruscant Knights I: Jedi Twilight

Darth Ramage was considered a savant.

It contained-ostensibly hidden in layers of memory below the more recent additions pertaining to Imperial strategic moves-the writings and lab notes of the Sith savant Darth Ramage.

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage's experimentation held terrifying implications.

Some of the information was irrelevant now-the information on using pyronium to increase the yield of a dose of bota, for example-but Jax had heard rumors of the sort of experiments Darth Ramage had done, and some of them held terrifying implications.

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage's holocron possessed knowledge that would be of great use to a Jedi.

He thrust all the questions aside. It was human nature to want to rewrite past mistakes, but that fantasy did not alter the fact that Darth Ramage's holocron was rumored to contain some information that could be of great use to a Jedi. He just had to figure out how to open it.

The Last Jedi

Jax Pavan was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of knowledge in Darth Ramage's holocron.

Jax barely felt her ministrations. His entire focus was on the open fountain of knowledge in his hand; he couldn't have looked away if he'd tried. The holocron had him, and was pouring its Force-sealed contents into his mind. A thousand lights pulsed; a thousand voices whispered, a thousand tendrils of the Force attached themselves to his spirit-to his mind.

He was drowning in the flood of knowledge, and he could not look away.

"Is it readable, Jedi?"

Duala Aidu's voice came to him as if from a great distance.

Readable? He almost laughed. The physical crystal, he had no doubt, could be inserted into a holoreader, granting the user access to some of the more mundane information it contained. But this river of knowledge was meant only for the Force-user who had opened it-a Force-user Darth Ramage would have assumed must be aligned with the dark side to even contemplate the act he believed necessary to open his cache.

The Last Jedi

The knowledge in Darth Ramage's holocron was so vast, when organized into the visual metaphor of the Jedi library, that each force technique the holocron possesses is proportionally only one scroll or datasphere in the vast expanse of bookshelves.

The place Jax Pavan stood was dark. He had the impression of a vast space and reached out with the Force to augment his eyes. Gradually, the place came to light-literally-as soft areas of multihued ambience bloomed in the darkness. These vague lights fanned out away from him on both sides in orderly rows that rose to a great height. They were too regular to be stars.

He knew-and had loved-this place. It was the great library at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. It no longer existed.

He swept his gaze over the darkened walls with their spectral lights-lights that were growing in brilliance with every passing moment. They were the "books" lining the library shelves-datacubes, memory chips, holocrons, light scrolls, even old books composed of bound flimsi and ancient scrolls of flowing text on plant fiber.

He had been standing in the broad doorway of the vast chamber; now he stepped forward toward the center. Among the ranks of lights, some grew brighter. Here, an amber halo surrounded a datacube; there, a datascroll gleamed like a tube of palest gold. He wondered at their contents ... and found himself many meters in the stygian air, reaching for a datascroll, knowing it contained a treatise on Force projections.

Useful. He took it from the shelf, feeling its warmth-and it dissolved into his hand.

Startled, he stared at his palm. It glowed with the residual aura-almost obscuring the already healing slash that cut diagonally from the heel of his hand to the base of his fingers.

The knowledge contained on the scroll emerged into his semiconscious mind like an island rising from a retreating sea. Of course, it made sense. It would require practice and discipline, but it was a similar discipline to the Force cloaking he had already been using.

He returned his eyes to the shelves. They weren't really shelves, of course; he realized that. He wasn't really in the library. The library was gone-swept away in an orgy of horrific and senseless violence. He was in his own head, choosing the knowledge he would bring to conscious light, having chosen the metaphor through which he acquired it.

There, a bright white luminescence many tiers up. In a heartbeat he was there, looking at a datasphere that shone like a tiny moon. It was a record of Darth Ramage's experiments with energy-with pyronium, specifically.

The Last Jedi

Time Manipulation

Darth Ramage experimented with time manipulation.

Ramage was alleged to have done experiments in the manipulation of time.

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage's talent and knowledge of time manipulation was such that the ability was considered the pinnacle of his knowledge and experimentation.

During this time, Jax was aware he was working his way toward a great, red brilliance high up on the curving wall of his mind's library. It was a holocron-a cube that pulsed with energies that told him this was the soul of Darth Ramage's work ... if the work of such a madman could be said to have a soul. He had been avoiding it, he knew, afraid of what it might tell him-what it might force him to know. Nonetheless, he found himself facing it, reaching for it, touching it. Knowing it.

It was a treatise on the manipulation of time.

The Last Jedi

As demonstrated by Jax Pavan, Ramage's manipulation of time could be used to project illusions into the future.

"It was an autonomous projection. I programmed it, I guess you could say, to do just what it did. And only what it did. Beyond that ..." He shook his head-wearily, Magash thought.

"But still, wouldn't it have required you to be projecting it while I was seeing it?"

"No, because of something else Ramage was experimenting with: manipulating time."

The Last Jedi

Jax Pavan was briefly able to utilize the power to slow time currents around him, in effect making him fast enough to move out of the way too quickly for Vader to adjust his course of action.

Jax froze for a split second, his weapon raised, then twisted out of the way of the screaming crewman. Anakin knew him too well-knew what he would and would not do.

Maybe.

With a supreme effort of will, the Jedi felt the local time currents around him, stirred them to eddies, then dropped and rolled beneath the fuselage of a small shuttle that lay between him and the Aethersprite.

Vader's next barrage of ordnance was aimed at where Jax had been, not where he had gone.

The Last Jedi

Sith Alchemy

Darth Ramage's holocron contained the knowledge of how to combine pyronium and bota to vastly increase and strengthen an individual's connection to the Force.

"You can have no conception of what you have given me," he told Jax. His tone was exultant. "The bota will purify and exponentially increase my connection to the Force, a transformation that will be maintained and strengthened by the energy latent in the pyronium. The Sith Holocron contained instructions written long ago by Darth Ramage, a Sith scientist, which would have been a useful addition to the combination, but not essential. I will simply have to divine what the connection is between these two forces."

Coruscant Knights III: Patterns of Force

Darth Ramage created a mechanism by which his holocron could only be opened by the blood of a Force user, and required a substantial amount of blood.

Blood.

Darth Ramage's holocron was sealed with blood.

The Last Jedi

How much blood does it require? Jax wondered. And what kind?

He glanced at his hastily bandaged hand. The holocron had responded to his blood, of course, but that trickle had caused only one corner closure to respond-and then only to open slightly. That hinted that a significant amount of blood was necessary. Clearly, if the adept opening the holocron was also the one whose blood facilitated its opening, the drain on his neurological processes would make it difficult, if not impossible, to wield the Force as needed to probe the artifact's arcane locks.

The Last Jedi

Not just any blood then, apparently, would appease Darth Ramage's little crimson god. It wanted the blood of a sentient. Most likely the blood of a Force-user. But the amount of blood necessary would cripple the would-be knower of Ramage's secrets so much that he would lose the ability to draw them out; the key had to be the combined application of spirit and matter.

The intent was clear: Darth Ramage intended that the seeker of his dark knowledge commit a dark act-the sacrifice of another Force-user's blood. Possibly enough blood to kill. Perhaps his intention was to make sure that no one from the light side would ever make use of his research.

The Last Jedi

Illusions/Telepathy

Darth Ramage's holocron possessed knowledge of how to project illusions.

He wondered at their contents ... and found himself many meters in the stygian air, reaching for a datascroll, knowing it contained a treatise on Force projections.

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage's holocron contained instruction on telepathic communication.

He chose several other points of enlightenment-a treatise on healing, acquired from Jedi long dead, another on the sort of Force cloaking he'd stumbled upon when meditating on the miisai tree, another by an ancient Jedi Master on the nature of the Force, another on Force communications, yet another on something Darth Ramage called "tunneling," which allowed the Force-user to concentrate his focus so tightly that he touched nothing but the target of the focus.

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage was known to have projected illusions of himself to fool others into thinking he was in a different place than he actually was.

He shook his head. "No. Projection. That was one of the things Darth Ramage was experimenting with-using a personal Force projection to make it seem that he was somewhere he was not. Which, I suppose, opens up all sorts of possibilities about the stories of his demise."

The Last Jedi

As demonstrated by Jax Pavan, Ramage's illusions could be programmed.

"It was an autonomous projection. I programmed it, I guess you could say, to do just what it did. And only what it did. Beyond that ..."

The Last Jedi

Darth Ramage's Force projection technique was so potent Darth Vader couldn't dispel the illusions created by Jax Pavan with this technique.

The Dark Lord swept a hand back at “Yimmon” and “Den”—still standing in the open turbolift—as if to dismiss Jax’s careful mirage. They blurred about the edges, but did not evaporate. That Vader had expected them to do so was evident only in the slightest halting of his step, the sudden tilt of his helmeted head, the twitch of his gloved fingers.

The Last Jedi

Force Heal

Darth Ramage's holocron contained instruction on Force healing.

The Last Jedi

Darth Tenebrous's Master

Grand Scale Force Manipulation

Darth Tenebrous's master opened a rend in the fabric of the Force.

One hundred years earlier, Tenebrous's Twi'lek Master had opened a small rend in the fabric of the Force, allowing the dark side to be felt by the Jedi Order for the first time in more than eight hundred years. That had been the inauguration, the commencement of the revenge of the Sith. And now the time had come to enlarge that rend into a gaping hole, a gaping wound, into which the Republic and the Jedi Order would to their own hazard be drawn.

Darth Plagueis

This rend had considerable repercussions on the Jedi Order.

The rend that Tenebrous's Twi'lek Master had opened in the fabric of the Force had been felt by the Jedi, and already the Order was beginning to show signs of circumspection and languor.

Darth Plagueis

Sith Alchemy

Darth Tenebrous's master worked with Tenebrous on a targeted virus meant to cut the Jedi off from the Force.

But his apprentice carried the imperative forward, and each successive Sith Lord improved on it, Tenebrous and his Master most of all, though they wasted years attempting to create a targeted virus that could be deployed against the Jedi, separating them from the Force.

No other Sith is known to have the ability, but Jax Pavan learned and wielded it prior to having his memory of the ability erased.

@emperordmb

Few things about Gravid (and the Bane Sith line by extension) were not addressed.

Luceno, James. Star Wars: Darth Plagueis. Del Rey, 2012. Print.

As some of us know, Darth Gravid was drown to the light side of the Force and by Teneberous and Plagueis' own estimation, set the Sith back quite a bit, which makes sense to why it took them 1,000 years to finally overthrow the Jedi.

So while it is true that the power of the Sith grew from Bane, there was a roadblock by way of Darth Gravid. So at that point the perfect ascension does not apply.

Darth Gean started to progress the power from their but I'm not sure it's ever specified how fatal Gravid's blow was to the Sith line, and how much there needed to be improved at the foundation.

I thought, at least, this would have been addressed. But I did not see mention of it in the thread.

@darthduelist9: what exactly were you expecting? These are five characters, four of whom never even make a legitimate appearance aside from mentions, and one of whom only appears in one source as a ghost. Quite frankly I'm surprised I was able to find as much as I did.

Seriously, if you have any criticisms over what else I could've done then I'm all ears.

@SilentBat: I didn't post that in the Gravid section because it had no bearing on Gravid's abilities.

In retrospect however, I should've mentioned that in the knowledge section for the general overview to avoid giving the wrong impression. Thank you for bringing this back to my attention, I'll edit it in.

@emperordmb This will take more time, of course, but in the "knowledge section", you might want to compile a list of all the artifacts and manuscripts and holocrons that the Banite Sith had access to.

Great work!

What about Darth Guile? Was he a member of the Banite line too? I recall Plagueis mentioning some quote of his to Sidious.

Plagueis noticed Sidious quoting Guile, but there's no confirmation as to whether or not he was a part of the Banite line.
