Weapons, Gadgets, and Abilities
The Sherwood Bow is a mythical bow rumored to be created and owned by the legendary Robin Hood. The bow is supposedly indestructible, seeing as any attempts at destroying it throughout history have been met with abject failure. The bow can change form based on its current owner, taking on bits of its owners personality. This has also indirectly led to many believing the bow to be more myth than reality. Once owned by a particular individual, the bow is theirs until they either die or bestow the bow to another. Any arrow that is slung in this bow is surrounded by an aura of energy that not only makes the arrows much more difficult to destroy but also able to pierce most armors. The bow also endows special abilities to its owner. The bow knows who lays claim to it at any given time, and only grants power to the one who truly owns it. If another were to pick up or steal the bow it would be only as useful to them as any other regular bow.
Heightened Agility, Endurance, and Durability (Granted by Bow)
The powers granted to Emerald Eagle by claiming ownership of the Sherwood Bow. This doesn't make Emerald Eagle super-agile or super-durable but he is able to take slightly more damage and react slightly quicker then a normal well trained human would be able.
The Sherwood Bow encases any and all arrows that are fired from it by its owner in an aura of pure energy. This makes the arrow much more lethal as well as much more durable.
The domino mask that Emerald Eagle wears is made of a compressed Kevlar microfiber that provides some protection to the eye area of its wearer. It also helps Emerald Eagle maintain his disguise. The most important feature of the mask is however the various lenses that it has on it to assist Emerald Eagle. These lenses include an X-Ray lens which allows Emerald Eagle to scout behind walls and cover, an infrared lens that allows Emerald Eagle to detect heat signatures, a night-vision lens, and obviously a standard lens which allows Emerald Eagle to see regularly through the mask. When worn, the lenses of the mask give off a green glow which contrasts beautifully against the golden-yellow mask.
Increased Lifespan and Youthfulness
The bow grants its owner a lifespan far greater then the norm of its species. The previous human owner of the bow before Emerald Eagle (The Hood), lived to be 211 years old before passing. The bow also keeps its owner looking youthful and strong way past the normal prime of the owners species. At 40 or 50 years old the owner of the bow would still look and have the physical abilities of a human in his mid twenties.
Years of training have turned Emerald Eagle into the Worlds Greatest Archer. He can make incredible and sometimes implausible shots. He can shoot from great distances and his arrows are more powerful than average due to the powers granted by The Sherwood Bow but Emerald Eagle is otherwise restricted by the normal rules and laws of archery.
In the years between the death of his brother and his return to civilization, Emerald Eagle went around the world training his archery and hand to hand fighting skills. While he is by no means the greatest fighter in the world (As he claims when it comes to archery) Emerald Eagle is still a more than formidable foe who knows how to keep an opponent on his toes.
Trick Arrows and Other Gadgets
Emerald Eagle employs a number of trick arrows that help him keep an opponent off balance. These include:
- Grappling Arrows
- Jamming Arrows
- Explosive Arrows
- Shock Arrows
- Flash Grenade Arrows
- Tear Gas Arrows
- Cryo-Arrows (Freeze Arrows)
- Tracking Arrows
- Net Arrows
- Taze Arrows
- Paralysis Arrows (Dipped in paralyzing agent)
Emerald Eagle also carries a small assortment of additional gadgets which include smoke grenades, various small knives, and a thieves kit.
Other Skills and Abilities
Emerald Eagle is a master of getting in and out of places unseen. He knows his physical limitations as a human and uses stealth to help make up for those deficiencies. Emerald Eage is also considered a world renowned burglar. He is known to be proficient at lock-picking, safe-cracking, and a number of other methods of breaking and entering. If there are valuables nearby Emerald Eagle will have a plan to acquire them.
The Fledgling Eagle
A King(sley) is Born
Jameson "Jamie" Kingsley was born into a life of both wealth and dysfunction. The son of a Hollywood executive (Richard Kingsley) and an aging film star (Adelaide Dupont), his parents were constantly preoccupied, which led to Jameson spending much of his early childhood in the care of one nanny or another. His mother, an enormous star in the early 80's but by the late 90's way past her glory years, was constantly drunk or on some new prescription pill whenever she actually was around. Her attitude towards her son was indifferent at best. Jamesons father had made hundreds of millions of dollars through the studio system but was always working and didn't develop much of a relationship with his son. The one saving grace that Jameson had was his half brother Roland, or as Jameson called him, "Rollie". Roland was his half-brother from a previous marriage of his fathers. Although they were 8 years apart the Kingsley boys were inseparable. Most siblings would fight constantly but they never did, the brothers may not have had their parents but they did have each other.
As they grew older changes happened around them. Their parents divorced, partially because they never saw each other and partially because that certainly didn't stop them from seeing other people. Their mother remarried quickly, as fading Hollywood starlets are wont to do. They didn't see much of her after that, except in the tabloids. Their father tried to be around when he could, but had a Hollywood empire to tend to.
Roland was always a serious boy, and doing the right thing always came first to him. When he turned 18 he entered the police academy. By age 21 he was graduating onto the force and becoming a cop. His father was so proud that he made it a point to make it to the graduation ceremony. Three months later, the boys father passed away. Years of stress and the strain of a not so healthy lifestyle led to a massive heart attack. Many children would be devastated by this loss, but not Jamie and Rollie. They still had each other.
The brothers inherited enough money to last them the rest of their lives, but Roland insisted on staying on the force. It was his calling in life and gave him a purpose. Roland purchased a large house with a Beverly Hills address for the brothers to live in, but tried to live a life without too much excess. Jamie on the other hand was starting to develop a little bit of a wild streak...
Jamie and Rollie
Jamie was 14 when he really began to notice girls for the first time. The thing was, girls definitely noticed him back, and Jamie basked in the attention. He went to a private, Beverly Hills high school and excelled at athletics without putting in too great of an effort. Jamie's charisma and naturally easygoing nature led to him becoming quite popular, and as can sometimes happen when girls and popularity are involved, boyhood mishaps ensued. Roland, who was still new on the force at this time, would often break up parties his brother was at, and single him out. This led to some awkward rides back home, but the brothers were close as ever. The fact that they were opposites in personality only made the bond they had stronger. Jamie looked up to his brother as his hero, amazed at how he always managed to to what was right. Rollie would never admit it but he was amazed by the ease with which Jamie did things. Whether it was scholastic's, athletics, or anything really, Jamie always found a way to succeed without making it look too difficult. Roland was sure his brother would do great things.
The years with Rollie were the best of Jamie's life. Roland became a detective on the force by the time he was 25, and had begun taking on a bigger workload. A 17 year old Jamie was becoming a minor celebrity in Los Angeles due to his visibility at various nightclubs and the fact that the boys mother was who she was. Even with all of his extra curricular activities Jamie was a fantastic student and was set to attend Stanford University after high school. This would be the first time he was without his brother since he was born. It would also lead to the most difficult time in Jamie's life....
Every Cop Must Make a Choice
Jamie's time at Stanford started off well. His popularity continued when he arrived at college and the young man was quickly embroiled in campus life. The most important thing that happened to Jamie during his time at Stanford was his discovery of archery. What had started with him jokingly playing around with a bow owned by a dorm mate who was on the archery team turned into a full fledged passion. Not only was Jamie passionate about archery, he was also incredibly good. Jamie's penchant for showing off led him to start working on his trick shots, quickly becoming quite talented at them. After only a semesters time, Jamie was a marksmen with a bow. Raw to be sure, but he had great promise.
While Jamie was enjoying school, Rollie was embroiled in the case of his life. Corruption in the LAPD had reached an all time high. Rollie and his partner, Detective Burton, were assigned to an undercover task force dedicated to rooting out a particularly powerful group of rogue officers. Rollie was leading the task force and months, if not years would go into the investigation.
The summer after Jamie's freshman year, the brothers spent time with each other when they could but both were busy with their respective lives. When summer ended Jamie and Rollie said goodbye, and promised to speak to each other soon. Little did they know, this would be the last time they ever spoke.
Jamie was spending his first week of college as almost any other 19 year old male would, drinking, meeting girls and generally having the time of his life. When he received the call from LAPD he expected his brother on the other end. What he got instead rocked Jamie's entire world and changed him forever.
There had been a break in Rollie's case, he had discovered some of the leaders of the rogue cops, a group of lieutenants who had long been suspected of wrongdoing. In a fine bit of undercover work, Rollie convinced the cops that he planned to work for them and siphon information to them from the task force, all the while planning to arrest them. When he was going to make the arrests, he learned something that he couldn't have planned for. The rogue lieutenants already had a mole on the task force. Rollie had no idea what was coming until he was shot by his own partner at point blank range as he read the crooked cops their rights. The corrupt cops hid Rollie's body, and pinned the entire thing on a couple of small time gangbangers. Roland Kingsley was murdered at 27 years old.
Jamie left school immediately to come home for the funeral. When he arrived to an empty casket and a shaky at best story, Jamie knew something was amiss. He was devastated at the loss of his brother and would stop at nothing to avenge his loss.....
Learning to Fly
Revenge and Exile
Always perceptive, Jamie knew that the story he was being fed was a lie. He couldn't believe that his brother, the best man he had ever known, had simply been taken down by a few gang members in a random shooting. There were also too many holes in the story, it made just enough sense to sound true, but Jamie hoped that he could disprove it. In the weeks after the funeral Jamie meticulously went through all of his brothers personal notes on the investigation. He was quickly able to follow the same trail his brother did and was led to the rogue police lieutenants. While tracking them, Jamie realized that his brothers former partner Burton, someone Jamie had known for years, had not only committed the murder but also felt no remorse for what he had done. This revelation instilled in Jamie a deep seated mistrust of police.
Jamie watched Burton and knew his schedule down to the minute. He developed a plan and prepared his revenge. It was a cold Friday when Jamie went into action. He waited in an alleyway he knew that Burton always took as a shortcut to get home. He wore a green hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled to his eyes. In his hand, Jamie held the compound bow that he had spent the last year and a half training with. He had only one arrow with him, it was all the young Kingsley would need. As Burton passed into the alleyway, Jamie emerged from the shadows.
"You killed a good man Burton, it would be a shame if the same happened to you" Jamie growled.
Startled, Burton lifted his head to see a hooded figure holding a bow standing in the shadows. As he composed him he sputtered "I-I-I have no idea what you're talking about"
"The act itself was enough reason for me to kill you, but lying about it more or less seals your fate coward" said Jamie, confidant that he had the man cornered.
Burton began to reach for his gun as he started "I don't know who you are freak but I'm sure getting sick of dealing with y-" He never managed to finish that statement as before his hand reached his gun there was an arrow sticking out of his knee.
"There's your warning" cautioned Jamie "Admit your crime by next week or that knee will be the least of your worries" Jamie slunk back into the shadows, leaving the crooked detective on the dirty mud-caked alleyway pavement.
Burton may have been a corrupt detective, but he was a good one none the less. From his hospital bed he was able to connect the dots between Jamie coming home, the young mans love of archery, and the method in which he had been attacked. He sent his cronies, the rogue lieutenants, to the Kingsley household to take care of the last loose end. When they arrived, they didn't find Jamie, instead there was a contingent of LA's finest, waiting to bring in the men responsible for the death of one of their own. They would all, including Burton, be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole
As Jamie took one last look at LA from the window of his private jet, he knew that this would be last time that he would utilize the assistance of the police that he no longer needed or trusted. When Los Angeles next saw him, it wouldn't be Jameson Kingsley they were looking at, but instead the Emerald Eagle.....
The Hood and the Bow
Before Jamie went into his self imposed exile, he had the forethought to place his trust in the hands of lawyers and money managers who would see that it was invested smartly and grew during the time he was gone. The only person he gave a direct contact line to was his mothers former manager Happy Gleeson, Jamie and Happy never had a particularly close relationship, but they were familiar with each other and Jamie knew Happy was a loyal enough man that he could be depended on to watch over the money.
The next four years were spent training in locales across the world. Jamie started his journey in the Far East, dedicating himself to mastering his own body. In China and Japan, Jamie trained with a number of martial arts masters. He learned to move in the shadows, unseen by any but the most trained eyes. In Nanda Parbet, he learned meditation techniques that would allow Jamie to keep a clear mind when in the heat of battle. Slowly but surely he moved further west picking up a new skill in each place that he stopped.
By his fifth year away from home, Jamie had reached England, where he planned to work with a bow until he was truly the "Worlds Greatest Archer". The trouble came in finding a mentor. Jamie searched far and wide, but there were none more talented then him. After six months of searching Jamie prepared to move on, sure that he wouldn't find anyone who could teach him. It was on the day before his planned departure, near the fabled Sherwood Forest, that he met an odd old man who claimed he could offer the help that Jamie needed.
Jamie was a brash, confident young man and refused to believe that this old man would be of any use to him and scoffed, "What use could you possibly be to me, I have so much talent and you appear too feeble to even draw an arrow"
"Looks can be deceiving, young one" the old man muttered at Jamie, as he drew a mottled old bow from his cloak
Jamie stifled a laugh when he saw the bow, sure that this old man was crazy.
The old man saw the smirk on Jamie's face and a barely perceptible smile flashed across his lips "You are young and strong yes, but you still have much to learn boy"
Jamie had grown tired of the back and forth with the crazy old man and turned his back preparing to continue with his preparations to leave. As Jameson turned three arrows encased in what appeared to be bolts of light shot passed him and into the trees in the distance. 1000 meters away Jamie watched as three small birds fell dead, arrows sticking out of them.
Jamie was incredulous and he heard a sound behind him "A shame about the birds, but I had to get your attention Jameson Kingsley"
"H-How do you know who I am? and who the hell are you?!?" asked Jamie, visibly impressed by the display he had just witnessed
"What I know is not important, time is short, I grow older by the minute, and you have much to learn" said the old man. Jamie looked back in stunned silence as the old man continued, "You may call me The Hood, I believe I'm the archer you've been looking for."
The old man then explained how, unlike Jamie, he didn't have a natural love for archery, rather he was born into it. The old man was the last in the line of the mythical archer Robin Hood. With no siblings and no heirs the man had worried that he would never find a worthwhile heir to The Sherwood Bow that had been passed down for generations in his family. The old man explained the powers and abilities granted by the bow to its owner which explained his incredibly old age (211, much longer than the natural lifespan of a human) When he learned Jamie was looking for a master archer in England, The Hood began to research him. He learned of his childhood, the death of his brother, and his years abroad. The old man had grown sure that Jamie was the deserved heir to the bow.
For the next six months the two lived together in the forest, training and hunting, Jamie learning more than he could have ever imagined about the art of archery. By the end of the six months, The Hood had grown incredibly feeble. "My time is running out young one" he strained, as the speaking grew more difficult "It is time for you to take the bow and begin your own journey. You have the training, and you have the skill. Now you must go out and create your own story"
As he breathed those last words, the old man passed away, and the bow fell from his hands. When Jameson went to pick it up the bow glowed and changed form. No longer was it a mottled wooden bow, it instead changed to a beautiful emerald oak bow with gold trim dancing across it. As Jameson held it in his hand he felt himself grow stronger and faster, he was finally ready to return home and put all this hard work to good use.....
