Doctor Niel Emerson (Aka. Doctor Polaris)
Age: 31
Profession: Doctor
Alignment: Niel (Neutral/Good) Polaris (Evil)
ORIGIN
Niel Emerson was born to a poor family of a drunk and angry father and a submissive and weak-willed mother. In Niel's mind, the only blood relative he loved was his younger brother, John. Because of this love, he took it upon himself to protect his younger brother from their father's nightly abuses by taking the hits himself. Either by hiding his brother or by provoking his father. such nightly beatings created a darker side in Niel and throughout his developmental life he suffered many black outs and had to be taken to the school nurse: George Adams. Mr. Adams provided Niel and John a loving parently role while at their school and it was Mr. Adams who encouraged Niel to pursue a medical degree later in his life.
Of course their father would have none of this "higher education" talk. In his mind, he got by on construction work and all those "know-it-alls" just wanted to look down on him. He refused to pay a single penny for either of them to go to a "good" school and repeatedly ridiculed and assaulted Niel for his desire to learn more. One day, Niel had enough, and he stood up to his father, which is as far as he knows what happened, because he proceeded to get kicked across the head and black out. But when Niel came to that afternoon, he had found out that there was an accident at the construction site, and Niel's father had been impaled on a steel girder. Leaving the family with plenty of life insurance to pay for both Niel and John to go to college.
As Niel pursued his medical degree, his black outs proceeded to become more common and active. When he went in for an MRI, the electromagnetic hum sent him into a trance where he began to see himself from outside his body. There he witnessed himself get out of the MRI and behave like a completely different person. Theatrical, excentric, but also controlled, he watched himself flirt with the attending nurse, get her number and leave the hospital. He was behaving like a completely different person. And at first it loomed amazing. This new him was more social, confident and was skilled witht he ladies. The problem though arose when he saw himself steal another man's wallet, and when confronted about it, watched himself threaten to gut the man right there in public. He tried to reign himself in, yelling and grabbing at his intangible arm, which suddenly pulled himself back into his body. He apoligized to the man and gave him back his wallet before running off.
That night, he ended up coming face to face with himself. He called himself Polaris and that this was the first time Niel had fought him for control. He revealed that Polaris was the one causing his black outs all his life, that whenever he needed someone to be strong, to stand up to his father or other hostiles, he was there to protect the two of them. Niels asked if he was the one who killed their father, but Polaris laughed and asked how he could have impaled a steel girder through him. When Niel pointed out that that wasn't a no, Polaris smiled and told him to travel to a small village in Africa.
Niel took a small vacation and made his trip, where he met with the local priest of the village. There Niel learned about an art they practiced where they claim to "speak to the earth itself" through meditation to manipulate the earth via magnetism. Amazed as he saw them use this power, he watched as they used it for medicinal properties to heal those in their tribe. He ended up writing a book about it and even proved it was possible at a conference, but a spiteful critic went on public television denouncing his book as hogwash and got him kicked out of the medical community when it was revealed he had a questionable mental state and that there were some criminal prosecutions being held against him regarding thefts performed by Polaris.
Banished, Insulted, and Ruined, Niel gave in to Polaris's will and they crafted costume to take over the world, proving their magnetic superiority over all others.
POWERS
Magnetism
Polaris is a master of electromagnetism and all other forms of the electromagnetic spectrum. Through a form of concentration, Polaris can extend his will through this field and command the shape and strength of it, allowing him to bend and manipulate all magnetic and diamagnetic forms of matter. He can even bend water using magnetism, though such a feat requires so much mental effort and concentration, it serves little more than a party trick and leaves him completely open.
He can also completely visualize and internet radio and other electromagnetic signals, allowing for him to pick up and receive transmissions as long as he is within range of half a mile. This ability also gives him complete 360 degrees of vision for that half a mile through echolocation and he tends to use this ability whenever he can as it provides zero concentration or effort.
Niels has the ability to use any of these abilities as well, but requires much more mental control over it and has far less precision and power overall. He does have the ability to hold Polaris back and is often responsible for forcing Polaris to deliver nonlethal electrocutions to his opponents and sparing lives whenever possible.
Electrokinesis
Through the manipulation of his electromagnetic field, Polaris can create a current of electricity and control it like an extension of his own body. He has complete control over this electricity and does not even need to spawn it from his body, though sending it out of his fingertips is a common tactics he will employ to catch opponents off guard in the late game. He can even cause electricity to course through an opponents body with no gesture or direction, immediately sending it into his opponents body.
He can also use electricity at more intense temperatures. This is less lethal for his foes at it burns the nerve endings before they can reach the rest the rest of the body. However, he can run this through metals to melt and shape their form, allowing him to smelt and form weapons for himself to wield in cases with the pain of electrocution isn't enough to deter an opponent. His most common means of using this is to shape girders into spears or manhole covers into saw blades.
Flight
While not able to perform actual flight due to how complex the human body is and has too many opposing magnetic forces to be manipulated, his entire costume is made up of metal, which he can lift, effectively moving like a puppet in the air. Because of how he flies, he does not need to face a particular direction to fly in it and can move in a complete 360 degree motion. Though he is vulnerable to motion sickness like any other human and he has no experience flying, nor any real training at it and so using his ability at any speed below normal human speed can cause him intense pain. The fastest he has gone on record of flying has been 30mph from 0-1 without warning, and since his power is based on concentration, is not affected by stamina the same way other people move.
Doctor
Niel has a PhD is medicine and specializes in neuroscience. With the added benefit of his electromagnetic powers, Niel can function as a living MRI machine when needed and is fully capable of performing emergency surgery on himself or others when they need it.
Polaris and Niel also have the unique ability to isolate pain to one of them, allowing the two of them to perform serious surgery on themselves without the need for pain medication. It also allows them to use this in battle to ignore serious injures for periods of time without flinching.
Weaknesses
Neither Polaris or Niel have any form of martial or military training.
Their abilities provide little protection against fire or other elemental based attacks. Bullets when fired at close enough range can also easily outpace his reaction speed, which is still very much human. (so even if he can see in 360 degrees, he will likely be unable to react in time if hit right.
